THE ATHLETIC: “Not a Bad Idea” if Daniel Jones Re-Signs with the Minnesota Vikings

If Sam Darnold leaves the Minnesota Vikings this offseason, it’d be a good idea if the Vikes run it back with Daniel Jones to backup JJ McCarthy.

  1. Hottest take out. Kewesi tags and trades darnold for a second and a fifth. Then kewesi trades jj Mccarthy for three first rounders.

Koc had a secret meeting with Danny dimes and told him to stink it up so this would happen.

  2. Here is where I am at with this. I say keep Sammy Sam as a starter. Let JJ and Jones along with Mullens fight it out for 2nd and 3rd. Odd man out gets the Practice Squad. Right now Sammy Sam has earned that's right Earned the right to be our Starting QB. All I need to say is 12-2. Let JJ develope and incase Sammy Sam gets hurt you have Jones who has game experience. It was not the best experience however he had not a lot to work with on the giants. You get people to play to his strengths and he will be successful. We need to play these men at that level what is their strength. Not what is the coaches strengths. If your going to put a Billion dollar team on someone's shoulders let them lead and build them up to pass not fail.

  3. Geno backed up Russell Wilson for two years and looked drastically better once it was his turn. Darnold said his time in SF helped him learn to read defenses. This year Justin Fields is backing up Wilson in Pittsburgh, an organization with historically great coaching structure. Daniel Jones should follow all of these guys. If he wants to start again some day he needs to be a backup for at least one season.

  4. The Vikings should keep Darnold until McCarthy is ready. They shouldn't assume that they can 'fix' Jones like they did with Darnold. I reminds me of 2017 when they had Keenum and got to the NFCC, then got rid of him in he offseason because everyone thought Cousins was the next coming of Christ. We know how that turned out. Forget it. They have something that is working half decent. So, don't F with the team chemistry by changing the most important player on the team. Darnold will likely even improve next year as he becomes more familiar with the system and players.
Another thing. The Vikings should work the QB contracts so that we can trade them off and get some draft picks or some good players in return. So why not sign Darnold now to a one year contract extension, then trade him in the offseason. Same with Jones sign him to a two year deal, then trade him after one year, something like that. The basic idea is to get these QBs at bargain basement prices, fix them up, then sell them off for a fortune.

  5. This is an unexpected, but amazing byproduct of KOC that is going to benefit us immensely. Already love the guy, but damn if he can attract competent QB's consistently for the roster, that is huge. We got to see how important it is when KIRT went down in 2023 and with Darnold coming in this year and making an amazing season out of what should have been a push to first overall pick. Bud has always been my ideal coach of all time, but KOC is starting to fill those shoes a bit.

  6. Think! Who were the QBs on last year’s team; and the year before? It’s really a revolving door… “you’re not going to go falling in love again, are you?”
