NHL suspends Rangers’ Matt Rempe eight games for hit on Heiskanen

  1. Pretty long, but, IDK, I feel like something like this for a repeat offender needs to be longer. Guy could have severed a man’s spinal cord at the neck.

  2. I thought 10 for sure but I guess the wheel stops where it stops. They just spin it and hope for the best

  3. Dumbest hit I’ve seen since Scheifele hit Evans in the playoffs on the empty net attempt.

    Should have been longer imo

  4. Should have been 10 games. But 8 games is also acceptable. Rempe has shown he’s nothing more then a goon.

  5. On its own it’s a harsh punishment but it was like he had blinders on. It wasn’t a player turning at the last second he went in to hit a guy from behind AND hit him in the head.

He has multiple ejections already. This should be the message to stop dressing him. This is on the Rangers as much as Rempe himself

  6. He won’t change, he won’t learn. He’ll keep doing the same thing. He does not deserve to be on the ice. He does not care about the injuries he’s doling out. I’ll put a shiny nickel on it that he has another misconduct or something similar to this the same game he comes back. There’s a word for people like Rempe: **Psychopath**. A person who has no remorse for the harm they inflict. He continues to do it. Therefore the armchair diagnosis stands.

  7. he just straight up shouldn’t be in the nhl. he’s going to seriously hurt someone if he continues to play for the rangers, he’s already given multiple concussions to other players. i argue he shouldn’t even be in the ahl 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

  8. Could have broke the guy’s neck the way he placed his elbow and forearm at his neck whilst pushing the head into the boards.

  9. There were multiple parts of that hit that were suspension worthy, and they should have suspended him individually on each one.

5 games for boarding, 10 games for rlbowing, 10 games for head as primary contact, and 15 games for intent to injure.

Normally, I would not think this way, but this guy is a multiple offender and has demonstratably tried to injure multiple players. If he is allowed to continue to play, he is going to kill someone.

  10. Shame on the rangers organization for encouraging this. They KNOW he can’t play hockey, and he knows the only way he stays up is if he’s a goon. It’s a lose lose for everyone

  11. Should have been 20. This loser has been nothing but a menace since the day he stepped foot in the NHL and it is only a matter of time til he seriously or critically hurts someone.

  12. Disgusting hit. Rempe could have done some serious damage. He is useless to the organization. Zero points and plenty of penalty minutes

  13. At what point do the Rangers start being held accountable by the league for letting this goon on the ice?

  14. I applauded his effort in the “do anything to make the club” sense of the word when he was first brought up. He was asked to bring grit and be fearless and he did. He battled a whose who of nhl tough guys and held his own for the most part.

Unfortunately, at this point, he has nothing left to offer. It wasn’t about getting his foot in the door so that he could show the organization and the league that he had the skill to play in the NHL. He just doesn’t have anything else to offer. He’s a liability for the league and whatever team he plays on. He’s worked hard to get to this point, but you can’t just look the other way when he makes these reckless, I’ll-advised hits. He’s going to end someone’s career or seriously hurt someone who does “actually” have something to bring to the table.

It’s a shame. He wants to make an impact, but he’s too immature and lacks the foundation to do anything meaningful. Best of luck, kid.

  15. As a Rangers fan, I approve both this suspension and him never entering the show again. I was ok with him coming out and fighting willing guys and being an enforcer, provided he learned how to do it cleanly, but this garbage is intolerable. Suspend him, demote him, and don’t let him out of his cage again, or he’s gonna hurt someone permanently.

  16. Should have been something around 20 games. No intention to play the puck. Only to hurt and injure the opponent’s star player.

  17. A failure of the Bro Culture of hockey. Totally celebrated as some Italian Stallion hero upon arrival. Taking fighting lessons with Laraque over the summer. Trouba making bodycheck “art” on Amazon.

I’ll put my kids in soccer.

  18. I don’t like what Rempe has done, and I have said that with his size, he has to learn to control his actions. Chara figured out how to do this. Both of these guys could have and can still in Rempe’s case, end an NHL career or worse.
What I hate, is what the Rangers organization hve done here with the case of Rempe. They have taken a kid with aspirations for an NHL career and basically destroyed any chance he has to do that, as well as making him public enemy number one. This has to be incredibly hard on his mental health and I hope he gets some help.

  19. I’m not suggesting 8 games is wrong, bc it’s not but there really is no consistency with how they dole these things out.

  20. I’m convinced at this point that he knows just how far out of his depth he is in an NHL game and he does everything he can to get himself off the ice without telling the coaching staff “I don’t belong out there”.

  21. Next time, it should be for 82 games. This guy is never going to learn. The NHL needs to send a serious fucking message for people that are not only repeat offenders, but are repeat offenders in such a short amount of time.
