49ers Locker Room Reaction: Blaming Brock Purdy — who played well — is low-level analysis

  1. Brock Purdy is a very good QB and the 49ers are lucky to have him. He played well against the Dolphins and has performed effectively behind an unsatisfactory O-line while missing star players. He should and will get rewarded by a big new contract. Many of the critical takes on Purdy by the national media are unfounded and overreactionary. But David, I wish your coverage of the Niners did not make such a centerpiece out of insulating Purdy from any honest consideration of his limitations and, worse, scolding and dismissing any fan who might raise questions about him. Titling your immediate post-game video “Blaming Brock Purdy—who played well—is low-level analysis” as if to preempt any possible negative assessment, and calling anyone who dares to be critical “idiotic,” is heavy-handed, over-compensatory, and a bit silly. Justly calling out unfair and uninformed criticism of Purdy s one thing. Disallowing and delegitimizing any criticism whatsoever is another. You may not have to put your thumb on the scale as much as you apparently feel you need to.

  2. David, if we have to sit through garbage football and then here you call us idiotic because of what everyone with eyes can see… dude, 49ers are trash. Brock Purdy is NOT special. He’s a little better than average but had played atrocious along with the rest of the offense and special teams. Come on man, you gotta get off your high horse when you talk 49ers ball.

  3. This team is a team in disarray, don’t blame the play on the injuries entirely when you have all the stupid penalties that pop Warner teams might commit but these are supposed to be pro players, this is on the coaching, time to evaluate from the bottom up coaching staff to players, and get rid of old over paid players Trent, Brandon, and other injury prone players. Until they address these issues it will be the same thing next year.

  4. this team is just beat up and we had the toughest schedule to end a abysmal season! next sb after this one will be in our stadium, should be great! fix the oline! brock can take this team to another sb!

  5. True but people will deny it cuz it’s from Lombardi. Bias is too strong sometimes to make it not unbiased opinion. This time he’s right, Purdy just put up 2 td 310 yards. He had 2 tds erased because of rookie wr with two drive killing penalties near the red zone and right OL. Even his int was correct read. If his OL can hold for 2 seconds instead of getting direct hit through the A gap. Oh also he was leading rusher for 49ers off of scrambles. Imagine Goff or darnold getting sacks

  6. Don’t worry Dave, the season is almost over 😂 can’t say I didn’t tell you so. This was so obviously going to happen all along w this team and average QB. Get off the wagon while you still can.

  7. 😆 This fanbase will make excuses for who they want. Where was all this insight and grace when a former 49er QB played ONE GAME in a monsoon, without the starting RB, and the defense had over 100 penalty yards 🤦🏽‍♂️ but 🤐🤐🤐

  8. Let's go get a run blocking left and right guard that can work on pass protection, then go get a pound, strong but quick left tackle, and right tackle for pass protection that can work on run blocking as well.

  9. As of week 17 in the NFL, Brock Purdy‘s QBR is 94.7. For the NFL average quarterback rating is from 80 to 100, and anything over 100 as above average. With the offensive line troubles, running back troubles, wide, receiver troubles, Brock Purdy has had a pretty good season. Anybody that doesn’t think this hasn’t really studied the tape nor look at how much Brock Purdy has had to run this year.

  10. U get drafted last for a reason. All the NFL teams couldn't have been wrong. Purdy was fortunate enough to have Christian at the time he got to play. He couldn't beat out Trey Lance or Jimmy G. Hasn't had any qb competition in spring training. He was just given the job. Now no Christian u see what u get. He can't read defenses. He sticks to one or two receivers the whole game, usually one. You'll see Jennings big game, them the next week 2 receptions. Kittle big game, following week nothing, Deebo just hass been forgotten about. They blaming Deebo talking about he slowed down. Pearsall and Cowing nowhere to be found. Under throws, overthrows, throws behind receivers,no arm strength and accuracy isn't good. YAC is what makes his stats respectable. 5-7 yard passes. They give him 50-60 million they're crazy as hell. Lynch just gave Purdy the job and doesn't want to admit he's wrong. Christian came at the right time for Purdy, but Purdy isn't the truth. Niners with Purdy avg how many points per game? Dobbs would've got us to the playoffs.

  11. The front office needs to work on the front line and not just the defense every offseason. Yes, I know defenses win games. However, you can't win if you can't score. Especially when you can't protect the quarterback

  12. No, this game was not in any way shape or form on Purdy. But be honest Lombardi, u have become Purdy's biggest fan/apologists. Absolutely NOTHING is Purdy's fault in your eyes.😂

  13. Brock needs to do a better job getting defensive stops late in the game. Purdy needs to generate more defensive takeaways. Also, he needs to get his teammates to stop committing so many penalties at key points in the game…oh, and he needs to make more field goals. Finally, he’s got to help his O-Line protect the QB better. He’s just not getting it done.

  14. Shanahan needs to be fired after the season! No excuses, please! Purdy is not a problem and I'm still a big fan of him, but he needs another year to solidify a huge contract offer. I think he should get a $35 million/one year deal. If if demonstrates elite talent next year, then they should restructure him a $50 million deal. If he regresses, then we should let him walk in free agency and draft an elite rookie QB. We really can't afford to risk the house on one player when we have so many areas to rebuild. Shanahan is the biggest problem on this team! He refuses to make necessary changes because of his pride on not taking responsibility and being wrong. Moody would have been long gone on any other team, but he's still screwing us over every week because Shanahan can't admit he screwed up on that draft pick. He misses one or two makable field goals almost every week and that is crucial when you're in close games. We might have won 3 or 4 more of those close games if he was dependable. We had Carlson and he was 4/4, wasn't that enough to keep playing him and see what he could do for us? But no, Shanahan cares more about being right than winning! Please fire him Jed York, because next season won't be much different if he's still the coach.

  15. Yes. You cant blame the QB. Its the Kickers fault obviously. Even when he was injured. Damn Jake Moody and his interceptions, inability to pass or run block and penchant for stupid play calls…. damn kickers…. 😂
