[NBA PR] Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has been fined $75,000 for public criticism of officiating and using inappropriate and profane language. Edwards’ comments came in postgame media availability following the Timberwolves’ 113-103 loss to the Golden State Warriors on December 21st.

  1. “Too bad these fines can’t reduce our cap number so we can get under the second apron.” – T. Connolly

  2. Good on Ant for calling the ref’s out. Their bias game to game, team to team, player to player is so blatant and the players and fans are tired of it. Now we just need Adam Silver to actually do his part and hold the ref’s accountable, but I wouldn’t hold my breath…

  3. Kind of inconsistent that Vanvleet called a ref out by name and his fine was only 30k. Ant says “they were terrible” and gets 75k fine?

  4. ………………. NBA has a system where you are punished for criticizing it, so the system will never improve internally

  5. I’m not sure why Edwards was so heated after this game in particular. There were weak calls and missed calls favoring the Wolves too.

  6. Imagine what they’d have to fine media members for disparaging their image if they could fine them

  7. If he doesnt pay, like would they suspend him? The league wants him to draw in viewership so i cant imagine they would sit him. Ant has the opportunity to really flex on the league.

  8. So asinine the various leagues continue this kind of penalization. This stings a league-minimum guy in the NFL, but Ant? What’s even happening here? Why bother? I obviously dislike penalizing players for critiquing their (collective) employer, which, given the newsworthiness should be part of the whole game, but what’s accomplished by this for *anyone*?
