Given that these top tier guys are realistically not coming to Cincy, what do you think Krall should do to fix this outfield? Should he just roll out the same guys? Is there a trade you think will or should realistically happen?
We probably have room for one or two more guys depending on whether they put Ashcraft in the pen or not as I understand it and then they have their roster.

Reds formula: Sign players that used to be good that have fallen off a bit in hopes they benefit from having GABP be their home field, trade them for middle of the pack prospects, give the fans hope we’re a couple pieces away, finish the season bottom 10-13 record in the league but with “promise” of the future through accumulated prospects from trades of players that got that GABP bump… start next offseason by missing out on players that make sense, sign players that used to be good in hopes they get back to form by playing at GABP, some do.. so we trade them for mid-tier prospects, finish bottom 10-13 in the league with hopes of the future and so on..
There’s no reason to think this organization is going to sign a player that’s currently good. We are a loser organization through and through. Nothing is going to change until it does and everything is still the same. I was hopeful they wouldn’t bring Tito out of retirement for nothing, but it’s sure seeming that way.
Realistically what CAN he do? The MLB is a pay to win league, and those who can’t match $50 million AAV contracts have to try to win through the draft, finding gems in AAA, and picking through waivers to hopefully find something.
The rich stay richer
Honestly, the Reds could go out and grab Grichuk and Verdugo and really overhaul this outfield. They would add a left and a right handed bat and both of them would get power boosts at GABP and both of them are solid defensively. That or grab Verdugo and trade for Lane Thomas.
This would probably cost them less than $20 mil a year.
Ridiculous contracts.
Potential trade targets: Jake McCarthy (ARI), Lane Thomas (CLE), Jasson Dominguez (NYY), Kerry Carpenter (DET), Taylor Ward (LAA), Randy Arozarena (SEA)
Don’t worry, whoever we sign will immediately turn into a moose
I’ve ben saying from the start of the off-season, the Reds were probably going to the trade market for an outfielder.
That also means we have to be patient. The outfield market is on pause until Teoscar and Santander make their choices. The guys the Reds will probably be after won’t be ready to move after that even, as the Robert trade talks will heat up first. So just hold tight until probably mid January.
I’d say 10% chance of signing a free agent (probably in the Verdugo range), 75% chance of a trade, 15% chance of standing pat or trying to convert an infielder in Arizona.
Common reds fans gotta pick ourselves up from the stirrups; it’s not like we traded our second best offensive player.
