Gleyber Torres, Tigers agree to 1-year, $15 million deal: Sources – The Athletic

I think the only real long-term contract option Bregman has is from Boston.

  1. Torres is likely 2B. Jung seems to be their 3B. Unless they plan on moving the likes of Jung and Tork to get some SP.

  2. Don’t know about that because Torres will play 2B and it’s just a one year deal. I am starting to wonder if his free agency will be fumbled like Montgomery and Snell’s were last off season though.

  3. Unless he goes on a 1 year prove it-deal to a team no one was thinking of.

Toronto? Cubs? Reds? Philly? Yankees 🤢? Miami?

  4. I could be completely off-base, but I think if he was going to get the super long megabucks deal he’s looking for, it would have happened already.

Teams aren’t stupid. They see the same offensive decline we do and are probably rightly hesitant to commit 7, 8, 9, 10 years and 300 million to a player like that.

  5. Not even sure Boston has offered him as they were still discussing it internally. Cora wants him, but their GM doesn’t, Devers doesn’t want to move from 3B and they have like 5 middle IF in their top 10 prospects. They might do a 1-2 year deal.

Yankees may circle back around if his price goes down, but they don’t need him and they don’t want him for as many years as he wants.

Mets don’t really need him, but it may be between him and Alonso there. If Alonso goes elsewhere, they can move Vientos to 1B and sign Bregman. This is probably his last shot at a long-term deal.

After that, he’ll be scrambling to find a decent short term deal somewhere.
