Chase Briscoe is set to make a major change in the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series as he moves from Stewart Haas Racing to Joe Gibbs Racing.
Stewart Haas Racing, the team where he found his footing in NASCAR, confirmed its closure at the end of the 2024 season. This decision left Briscoe without a seat and opened up the opportunity to step into the shoes of Martin Truex Jr at Joe Gibbs Racing.
For Briscoe, leaving Stewart Haas Racing means saying goodbye to more than just a team. Tony Stewart, the NASCAR legend and co-owner of SHR, has been a mentor and a personal hero for Briscoe. During an appearance on the ‘Dinner with Racers’ podcast, Briscoe shared his deep admiration for Stewart. He shared how, as a kid, he was in awe of Stewart’s ability to compete both in NASCAR and in sprint car racing. He explained:
“I was always a die-hard Tony fan because this guy I could watch on TV on Sunday would like to come back and run a Sprint car or a Midget and be at our home track. And that was like crazy for me.

“This, the fact that this guy can watch on TV is racing in my home track. So that’s always been the draw for me for Tony just from an early age.”
Briscoe also looks up to his grandfather, Richard Briscoe. An icon in sprint car racing, Richard’s career took a sharp turn after a tragic event. He went from driver to team owner after his best friend’s death in a race. His team amassed over 500 wins and fielded cars for more than 13 National Sprint Car Hall of Famers. He commented:
“So, my grandpa bought a Sprint car, said I’m goanna go race this thing. And the second night he was racing, his best friend got killed. And he’s like man, I don’t, I don’t know if this is really what I need to be doing with the family, but he’s loved racing…So, he started doing that and turned into a really successful owner, had over 500 wins…”
