Sean please I’m begging you to stop

  1. Sean Payton seriously need to include some two half back set with Mims and Mclaughlin, and some options stle type plays.

I am sick of the dumbass screen that is so predictable

  2. I don’t have an issue with the screens honestly. Yeah they weren’t working, but at some point you have to trust your guys to make a play. Screens slow down the pass rush and a variety of plays keep the defense honest, so sometimes you run them even though they’re not working.

  3. We’ve had some well-designed screens this year, but they kinda became the entirety of our “run” game and seemed to be defended quite well yesterday because of that.

  4. A lot of people think Bo’s success is due to amazing offensive play calling from Sean. They do not watch the games.

  5. I trust Sean Payton, universally recognized by his peers as one of the greatest offensive minds in the league, better understands what plays to call than I do. So it is what it is.

  6. I’m both a Broncos and Texans fan so I’ve been having to watch 8 quarters of the same negative yard ineffective screen passes every fucking Sunday. I. Just. Don’t. Get. It.

  7. Most of the time, those screens are brutal… even more so if the designed target is Javonte because he doesn’t have the speed or play making ability to make something out of a bad setup like maybe Jaleel or Marvin could.

  8. I mean, screens are what Nix did in college (and why I was hesitant to draft him – I WAS WRONG). And he’s still hit or miss when he throws downfield. I think Payton is bringing him along at a good pace, with a lot of his college game still in there. But Nix, Payton, everybody knows that you can’t live off that stuff as a pro.

I will say that I’ve seen more growth out of Nix than I ever expected in year one. So yeah, maybe Payton could put a couple fewer screens in there. But I’m not coach.

  9. The screens work more in his offense than any other but holy shit does he abuse their usage.

Also, the biggest issue that dictated that game was that a tie could also guarantee the playoffs. Once we got the ball back after the doing Sean played for the tie rather a win. If we still were playing for the win i believe we could have gotten it into FG position or at least converted enough to take the actual amount of time off the clock that we needed to for a tie.

  10. Screens are really useful, especially against a defense that is pinning its ears back. On 2nd and 8 at midfield? Not so much.

  11. Please, some of you need to go watch some film. There are plenty of experts on YouTube to help understand the game- how, why, and when certain plays are called. Payton isn’t flawless as most play callers aren’t and could certainly be better, but some of the “suggestions” here make it clear they have a madden rookie-level understanding of the game

  12. The funny thing about those screens is that they require FUCKING BLOCKING. Every time I see the play called the person is just out there naked and is immediately tackled. I’m sure it doesn’t work in practice, or on paper, so why do they keep doing it!?

  13. Would we get the same results if we had Jaylen Daniel’s? Or is WA play caller that good

  14. Does payton run a lot of screens? Yes. It’s an overreaction to say none have worked, they’ve scored touchdowns on 3rd and long off them. I’d prefer he toned them back because we clearly don’t have the personnel to make them work like he’s used to, but seeing how he has a rookie qb, with a record amount of dead cap space in playoff position in year 1 of a rebuild, what are we really complaining about?

The more important thing though is context. The final two drives, the broncos tried to run the ball on 1st down, but the bengals completely sold out on stopping the run. Like it or not, a screen is generally the best play against an over aggressive defense, and particularly on the 2nd overtime drive, the defender just made a good open field tackle. And despite all this, both drives saw the broncos with a play called that left a receiver wide open for a 1st down, nix just missed the throw both times, unfortunately. So the fan base can continue to complain about play calls, or appreciate where this team is and the future outlook, especially as we get out cap space back and we continue to finally get to use draft picks to rebuild the talent and depth.

  15. What’s crazy is that this used to work for the saints but it has never worked in Denver as far back as I can remember.

  16. Things I simply wish I knew the answer to and who I’d ask:

    “Why?” -God
“Was there another shooter?” -Lee Harvey Oswald
“Do you design screens with intelligible receivers down field?” -Sean Payton

  17. We also just simply don’t have the right personnel for all these screen plays. Our skill guys are decent at some things but breaking tackles and making people miss for yac is not one of them

  18. Man that play calling in OT was brutal. 2 drives and didn’t get a single first down. Pretty pathetic by Payton. They caught a break twice and still fumbled it.

I think you guys should have just gone for two tbh.
