By this logic, we benching Drysdale too?
In Tortorella’s defense, that was an absolutely awful defensive play by Michkov there. I went back and checked the shift tracker and was surprised to see he took a few shifts after that.
pretty reasonable I guess
Gotta love Torts. He shoots straight with NO bullshit. It’s a good thing Mich has him for a coach. Gonna make a player outta him for sure!
I think Torts is a great coach. I also think he’s the right coach at the wrong time.
By the time we become competitive (if we do), he’ll have worn out his welcome, as coaches do.
So he’s essentially just here to coach well enough to get this group of guys just outside of the playoffs. Which both breeds a culture of mediocrity and ensures we don’t get a high enough pick to draft a core piece.
But it sucks, cause half the time I really like the guy, and he’s obviously a pretty decent coach (see: Columbus)
The dynamic may have been better when MM couldn’t understand English. An organizational center piece and Torts hard coaching style will be sustainable for the short term, this is a powder keg down the line
I have 0 issues on how Torts is handling the situation
I remember that play very clearly, he shot the zone early looking for a stretch pass as he does often – it’s part of his game and apparently part of ours (according to Torts last season preparing for the mad Russian).
Someone said the other day Torts turns sports cars into utes and I can’t unsee it now.
As long as he’s net positive we all knew what he was like, right? But he’s not being given offensive chances, while simultaneously drilling into him the Torts defensive way – so he’s hampered on both counts.
It just feels like a bad fit to me right now, even though in a lot of ways I agree with what Torts has said in this quote.
I wish like hell the Blackhawks would have hired him. Could you imagine the progression Bedard would have? Torts would teach him to actually play defense. You guys are so lucky to have a star actually being developed.
Whoa, a reasonable and completely rationale take. It’s also another reason for me to say: maybe the guy who has won more games as a hockey coach from the US than anyone ever knows more about player development than the 16-22 year olds that rage post in here.
flyers fans will still freak the fuck out, despite this actually probably being the best way to move forward. this further cements my position on team torts.
I’m over here laughing my ass off that all the “Flyers fans” who were SO excited for Torts to yell and scream and say all the things to the players that they type in these comment threads, are now calling for Torts to be fired for acting like the most measured, mature adult in the room, and developing young players with an eye to long-term vision and perspective.
Clowns gonna clown.
You guys are all crazy with the Torts support. Who has he ever developed? What good players haven’t run away from him at the earliest chance they could? Before anyone says Konecny and Sanheim, maybe they would be better if it wasn’t for torts. It’s not line he has some amazing track record of developing talent.
I really need this sub to chill and let this happen. I know a lot of you are all “FUCK YOU TORTS” but I assure you that this is a group decision by the org as a whole. This patient approach is what you want to see. Michkov is only 20 years old. He’s going to still be playing when some of you get married. For me…I may die of natural causes before he retires…
I know ya’ll are desperate for wins. But this is the way things should have been handled since Hextall.
I hope MM just refuses to play until torts is gone. I am not saying torts is wrong for how he wants to go about this but he is fucking wrong to keep holding MM accountable while we have guys like sanheim/frost/drysdale/tippers/zamula etc constantly shitting the bed and nothing is being done to them. Tonight’s game was a prime fucking example of how shit all of those guys were and its fine… Hell its probably MM fault again
