If he is fired it will be because of the fatal flaw of starting minshew
That was really bad. Fuck AP for Minshew
Key word being “will be”.
They stated reason they went with Minshew was experience. (It wasn’t because of “mobility” as a lot of casuals believed.) Going with Minshew because of experience was still the wrong decision, but it’s not contradictory to believing O’Connell will be something that he isn’t yet.
im not worried about Aidan, im worried about AP showing zero improvement in all facets of his coaching game
I think AP was pressured by Luke Getty to start Minshew this year, I think AP wanted Ayden O’Connell was trying to please his oc
The opposing QBs Aidan O Connell has beaten in the NFL
Tommy DeVito Zach Wilson Easton Stick Patrick Mahomes ( did not complete a pass after the 1st quarter) Jarrett Stidham Mac Jones Spencer Rattler
The only one of those QBs to throw more than 1 TD in those games was Easton Stick in garbage time.
He has scored 20 or less points 8 times in 16 starts and been shutout.
This is what we are being told is a starting QB in the NFL.
Don’t forget about McCormick and Meredith as well. Dude cannot examine talent.
Neither one of them won the job outright in the preseason. Erring on the side of the veteran QB was a safer play.
…and AOC.
The reason Minshew started was fired mid season for that decision.
They started Minshew because at that time is what the better option considering the line. Now we are in a different situation and AOC has also added to his game.
AP just calls it as it is at the time it is. He’s consistent this way.
If Aidan beats Herbert next week, I think its worth entertaining the idea of him being the starter next year. Evaluate the QB class next draft and go from there. Draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd this year, as well.
If AP truly believed that he would’ve made AOC the starter way earlier in the season. Not buying that bullshit.
Imagine not starting the QB that got you the job in the first place, then being fired because you didnt start him to begin with.
I remember seeing training camp footage of him (minshew) throwing ducks, and they still started him…
The tank is done.
Chargers smack down incoming.
I’ve been an AOC believer since he whooped the Chargers
At the time, Minshew seemed like the better option. AOC has outplayed him this season and he is now the starter. Nothing wrong with that. If Minshew was healthy and still starting then sure, you can blame AP, but that’s not the case
AOC is on the DC4 Raider system of developing QB’s. He has had 4 different OC’s calling the plays in only 2 seasons.
AOC will be a starting QB in this league, it may or may not be for the Raiders but there is a shortage of QBs as most college QBs are just not pro ready so it will always leave opportunities for journeyman QBs to rise to the occasion, just like we took a shot on Minshew this year and the Vikings took a shot with Darnold, sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t.
It is a legit question with us slotting in to pick 6-10 how much we should be willing to give up to get a QB in a fairly weak class when the team has so many needs. I’m on board with BPA and running it back with a different coach if it’s going to cost us something like 3 top 60 picks to move up a few slots. Or grab a later QB like Milroe/Beck/Dart. Would be totally onboard with drafting Jeanty, a CB, LB with first few picks and a QB in rd 3 with that Jets pick. Bowers/Jeanty/Mayer/Meyers and a solid, young o line would be a hell of a foundation. Let later round QB sit behind AOC for a year, see how he develops.
It should say: “i think Bradys coming for my job.”
Gosh we really are the problem sometimes 🤦🏻♂️ AOC wins a couple meaningless games and we act like AP left Tom Brady on the bench.
We suck, we were gonna suck with any of the QBs we have had rostered this year.
I’ve always wanted AOC to be the starter, Never understood minshew starting. But the man has been through ups and downs and he only gets better I feel. He slings the ball in a similar fashion that Carr did in his better years.
He got the job because he started Aidan and he will get fired because he benched Aidan
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
If he started AOC there’d be a lot of talk about having a 25 mil dollar back up in minshew. I had a feeling we were screwed when the competition was even at training camp. Then the ravens game happened, and I thought we turned a corner. I think Getsy was more of the problem than Minshew being ass with us and not much better w/Turner. Minshew played well every where else except Las Vegas.
I was on team AOC as well instead of Minshew. However, why didn’t he pull away with the job during training camp? Did Minshew really win it based on monetary reasons as Q alludes to?
Every time I hear Pierces name or when he talks. I shake my head in disappointment. And wished Raiders hired Bisaccia instead of Pierce.
Yall giving him shit for putting a veteran qb in place and wanting to let a sophomore develop yall are fucking dumb.
And no getsy wasn’t the first choice so don’t act like he wasn’t trying to setup a solid oc and veteran combo as a bridge.
We just ignoring that AOC has had way better pass protection and run support I guess.
Cool he can be the next Sam Darnold in 5 years for some other team. Now the Raiders have once again fucked themselves out of a top pick and we will be in QB limbo forever.
We have no idea what O’Connell can be. No one thought Sam Darnold would eve start again, much less put up Pro Bowl numbers and lead a team to a 14-2 record. When he was on the Jets people talked about him like he was trash, and the overwhelming consensus was that at best he’d be a backup, and most likely out of the league in a few years.
O’Connell is playing for perhaps the worst organization in the NFL, and in just 2 seasons has had 2 head coaches and 4 offensive coordinators. He’s playing behind one of the worst offensive lines, and is supported by the league’s worst running game.
How would he look if he’d been drafted by a competent organization?
The Raiders would be well-served to focus on building up their line, and adding the best players they can get at other skill positions, and see what O’Connell can do. He reminds me a lot of Jim Plunkett, another QB the fanbase were divided on, and one that many wanted to see benched.
Personally, I see a lot of potential in him, and am fairly sure that with better teammates, and some consistency in the coaching staff, he’s more than good enough to QB a contender.
