What’s Behind CJ Stroud’s Struggles With The Houston Texans?
Former Houston Texans player looks at some of CJ Stroud’s plays from the Houston Texans loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17 of the NFL Season.

Former Texans Charlie Heck was mentioned on MNF. He was activated from their practice squad. Troy said he's playing well, and that the transition was easy because the 49er terminology is mostly the same.
So, my take is that the Texans O-line seems to learn the details, but they just aren't coached well.
CJ just doesn't look the same pre game And during pressers. He doesn't look as "happy" to be playing football. If he's hurt, frustrated, etc…hes not going to say and he's not going to bad mouth his teammates…this is a year of firsts for him…that he didn't have to deal last year. His second year…a year of learning and gaining experience
There was a game (Jets?) where 4 of five consecutive possessions ended with Stroud taking a sack to take them out of field goal range, and the other possession he threw a short interception at their 25.
The press conference sounded like his week 1 year 1 presser.
Do they not force them to review the tape after each game? I have keenly been listening for the words 'practice' to come out of his mouth, but he doesn't ever bring that up. Very worrying.
I think he thought if he walked the walk he could land a Mahomes size contract after the season.
THRIIW IT AWAY!
Bobby broke CJ! Weakest Oline in the NFL has greatly contributed to CJ being shell shocked! CJ’s happy feet being unsettled affects his accuracy and vision! The offense coaching staff all need pink slips! Game calling has just been atrocious!! 😣😖
Part of me realizes that this won't improve until next year because the line is probably the worst in the league right now. The other part of me wants to see the team take the next week to go back to basics, put in some scheme adjustments and get ready for the playoffs. Play backups against the Titans, the game is meaningless, so use the time to reset the offense. Stroud will be fine long term, in my opinion. He's still a QB this team can win a SB with…. I'm not on the whole "fire Slowik" train yet, but the play calling has to improve drastically. It's pretty obvious that the all consuming priority in the off season needs to be 3-4 new starters on the offensive line (that's probably not going to happen, but one can hope). The only one I would be sad to see replaced is Howard.
Hopefully during this offseason we don’t see CJ on a bunch of podcasts. Hopefully we see him hanging out with his receivers trying to perfect the playbook.
Often times, I am surprised to see more defensive players in the backfield, than our own offensive players, indicating the lack of pass protection and adequate run-support. I truly believe, that the lack of creativity from this OC, has made it easier for opposing defenses, to win against us. CJ has had a rough time, because there is no consistency, in the pass protection or run-support, anything offensive is doomed from the start. Realtime adaptation and adjustments to opposing defenses, is not this teams strong suit. Realizing that there are issues, in every aspect of this team's play makes me realize, that this is only a second year team, when all is said and done.
Lazy narrative….
The sack total is 2nd worst. That alone says it. They keep getting worse that is coaching failure. New coach new people.
So, were the wunderlicht test results accurate after all for CJ?!
O-line is not helping his progression. QB coach Johnson is not making any adjustments for CJ either. He should be fired as well.
Another video and analysis well done, Seth!
Smh crazy how our o line is the highest paid just to be the worst in the league fire all of them lol jk but it ridiculous how we're playing
I don't really watch the Texans much as I'm a Bengals fan, but know of course how awesome Stroud was last year, and living in Ohio I saw him a lot with Ohio State. I thought he was super gifted with his accuracy and touch and wasn't surprised he was good in the first year of the NFL. It sounds like the Offensive Line is the main culprit, but I've also wondered if he is going through things in his personal life affecting his play. It's just a hunch of mine I've had this season about Stroud. It may not be true at all, but there could be other things in his life distracting him, or causing stress that are affecting his play this year.
The Texans will not win another game this season so Davis Mills should be the starting QB for the remainder of the season. CJ needs to watch and he also needs to see what taking responsibility looks like. Saying “I take responsibility” is more than words. Over the last 8 games Bryce Young has been a better QB and that is scary
You can’t bet in Texas it’s illegal.
The OC and coach should be fired.
How can someone get on a heater with constant 3rd and 7+ and only a WR screen on the playbook? Bobbys play calling is trash. With the O line issues there needs to be more quick passes and 0 long developing plays. Adjustments is needed to win games and not the same old stale plays
Thank you Seth. I am looking forward to learning about the new coaching staff we will have next year. CJ lives much of his life through his heart and his dearest friend is severely injured. His generation of men live life in a different frequency than their elders in sports. They show their "real" emotions. Facts are their elders need to learn to except that fact. The old ways are changing, FINALLY. Remember the game last year with a severe situation and the young men stopped playing??? That never happened before. Honestly, more than anything, I wish most of the OLD owners would step aside and let YOUNGER family members make the decisions. This generation of Elders don't know when to go away for a long permanent vacation.
I think right now he's having a hard time navigating life in the NFL. There are a lot of distractions, and at the same time, he's trying to be a man of God. That is very challenging itself.
Merry Christmas Seth and very Happy New Year’s.
Didn't he land hard on his right shoulder during the Chiefs game and came out a play? Maybe that's lingering.
Hoping for the best! Have to say it has been easy to fall into negativity with this team, but I have to remember 2 years ago I would have been just fine going to playoffs. This off-season will be most important in franchise history
Stroud is a potential HOF QB. He needs an oline stat. Revamp the oline and you're looking at a Super Bowl (as long as the front office leaves the football decisions to the football people)
Merry Christmas Seth. Love your videos man. Keep it up. Let's get HOT. TEXANS SWARM!!!
The o line, the o line…and oh yeah..the fuckin o line
I love the play break downs Seth. You should do this more.
Azeez is coming back expect some dirty plays
Offensive coordinator failed huge!!!! One trick pony couldn’t get it done this year!!! Fire O coordinator or this will continue and Texans will plummet…

Stroud has missed more throws and holding ball!
