Help me settle an argument. I’m a Habs fan living in Toronto now, with in-laws all being die-hard Leaf fans. Do I have a valid argument for Monty being better rated than Woll or Stolarz?

  2. Middle tier, 15-20. His consistency is what holds him back but he’s good enough to help the team win.

  3. I don’t know if I would take Monty over either of them right now. They’ve both got better stats but Monty has played almost double the games this season. I think it’s very close.

  4. He is an excellent tandem goalie.

~10th to 15th best in the league.

He is not a classical number 1 like Shesterkin ot Hellebuyck tho but those type are becoming scarcier

  5. Stolarz is putting up some incredible numbers before he got hurt. Only hellebuyck has better numbers

  6. He is middle of the pack right now. I would put both the Leafs goalies in that range.

  7. He has improved at least by my eye test, he has rough games, but his hot streaks are becoming more frequent.

  8. Good for what we are. He’s too inconsistent to be the starter on a playoff team (unless it’s a 1a 1b situation) but he’s improving and I think there’s a decent chance he gets there.

  9. Around 20th in the league.

No worse than Darcy Kuemper or Adin Hill who recently won cups with great teams in front of them.

  10. I’d say top 15, but not top 10, and the Habs defense holds him back. On a contender with a good defensive structure and the roster to pull it off, he would be pushing well into the top 10 conversation.

The 4 Nations Tournament should prove my case, provided it goes better than the WJC…

  11. He’s having rough shots to block and odd-rush often. The habs defensive man to man is rough for any goalie

  12. No use arguing with a leafs fan about their goaltenders. They worship them for a year or two then abadon them and claim they were always the problem.

I mean we do the same thing with our players sometimes, but it’s easier to see another fan base do it.

I honestly have no clue about Torontos goalies. The team is actually pretty good, in the regular season at least, so they amplify their goalies number. It’s the exact opposite of what’s happened to Montys numbers the last couple years.

I’d say their goaltending tandem is acceptable given the rest of their teams, but I’d bet a million dollars if their was no salary cap, they would have dedicated lots of money to trying to find someone better.

Stolarz and Woll are playing pretty good but neither have really sustained this level of play for any longer than they are expected to this year. They will both hit career highs in games played this year.

It was a risky play by management and actually remarkably similar to our approach. Monty and Primeau would have both hit career highs in GPs. Both of their goalies succeeded so far, while one of our has an another failed spectacularly.

I don’t really know how to compare them. Monty is great for us here, but if he on a contender, while he’d be getting more support, he’d be on a much shorter leash. On a team like the Avalanche that won with Grubeaur in net, he’d be more than sufficient. On this year’s Avalanche or oilers, he might actually be hung out more to dry than he is here.

  13. EA sports ranking says it all. He’s an 83 which I think is fair. He’s an 83-86 range

  14. I don’t watch enough Toronto games to know, but I think he’s probably an average to above average starter. He might be the best goalie not named Price I remember playing for the habs, but I’m only 21 and didn’t really start watching until like ’12 or so
