“Learning From the Best” – Michkov on Tortorella, Bedard, and the NHL Grind

  1. Honestly I love how this kid carries himself. He knows that despite his talent he isn’t there yet, and that’s OK. This team is 2-3 years away

  2. Whoa, color me shocked that the guy who maneuvered specifically to Philadelphia understood the situation he was getting into and, coming from an incredibly intensive development system, is accustomed to coaches that set hard boundaries and he appreciates it.

Crazy that he would say he isn’t prepared for NHL games due to the constant nature of the schedule, it’s almost like people here have been saying that. It’s almost like he appreciates the boundaries that are being set for him. It’s almost like he came here early to get additional professional development and it’s happening.

In case it’s not clear, I’m being wildly sarcastic as most of us have been saying this and now it’s confirmed by Michkov himself.

  3. >”Tortorella is very experienced, and there’s a lot I can learn from him. I try to listen to everything he says and follow all his instructions. For now, we communicate only through an interpreter. I can understand him, but I can’t respond yet,” said Michkov. *“For me, the most important quality in a person is honesty, and John Tortorella is a very honest person with everyone. If something is on his mind, he says it. People like that are highly valued in my encirclement.”*

Very interesting quote. Especially that last sentence. Seems like he has a real good attitude about this and respects Torts. That’s a good sign.

  4. Flyers fans: TORTS Y U NO play Michkov 20 minutes a night???

Tortorella: Because he’s struggling with the pace and intensity of the NHL season and he needs time to adapt to the lack of space on the smaller ice surface so he can make plays

Flyers fans: NO HE’S NOT cuz look Celebrini plays 20 minutes!!!!

Michkov: I’m literally struggling with the pace and intensity of the NHL season and I need time to adapt to the lack of space on the smaller ice surface so I can make plays

  5. Michkov compliments Torts, the locker room, his Calder race competition, Bedard, his family, Znarok, and Torts some more.

    Seems like a good kid.

  6. This is what I was expecting from Michkov, he to me is a copy paste of Stutzle in a good way, and he’s already doing better than Tim did his rookie year. But took the guy until his third to be an above ppg player and adapt. We just have to be patient, he’s gonna be the guy.

  7. Yeah kid seems to have a good attitude on things. Although understandable if there’s some frustrations on his play or how he is handled but that is part of the whole deal. We got a good kid here.
