“Two other clubs to watch are the Giants and Blue Jays, each of whom has been connected to Alonso at some point this offseason.

San Francisco added Willy Adames on a seven-year, $182 million deal in December, just two months after giving Matt Chapman a six-year, $151 million extension. The Giants would have to sacrifice two more Draft picks and $1 million in international bonus pool money to sign Alonso, who turned down a qualifying offer, but given the competitive state of the NL West, they might believe that adding another impact bat to the lineup is crucial.”

“A number of other teams also remain in the mix for Flaherty including the Giants, Blue Jays, Tigers and Cubs.”

  1. I’d give Alonso a one year deal for him to play well and leave. But that’s it. Edit: forgot he’s got a QO attached. Hard pass. And Flaherty is a bitch.

  2. Flaherty makes sense. Giving up 2 more draft picks for Alonso when we have Eldridge for 2026 at the latest does not.

  3. Alonso isn’t gonna magically bump this team up to Dodgers/Padres/Dbacks tier, he’s a slightly above average player; stay the course and develop Eldridge

  4. Alonso would be a huge upgrade to what we have in 1B/DH. I find it insane that people don’t want to bring him because we have Eldridge. We are multiple high-quality players away from competing for the division/wild card.

  5. “connected to Alonso at some point.”

Meaning the media thinks these teams have the money and missed out on free agents, so it’s good to speculate whether they will sign Pete Alonso.

Once more, I cannot buy into anything anymore. I’m tired of the media and agents using us as leverage for these players.

  6. Flaherty is a huge bitch. I’d rather roll out the young-in’s than sign that cry baby.

  7. Alonso is just pure speculation. Posey isn’t stupid and knows that Alonso will cost a lot in money and draft capital and will be replaced by Eldridge. At most, Posey is just waiting to see how desperate Alonso gets to see if we can sign him to a cheap multi-year deal.

  8. If they are going to sign a position player then I think they consider Bregman (assuming he will play second). Then attempt to see what the Mariners would need for Castillo.

  9. Lmao I thought for sure “loose connection” was going to mean he grew up in Reno so he’s basically a homegrown Giant!

  10. Over the past couple years, it seems like the Giants and Blue Jays are the two team names baseball insiders throw out there in order to leverage bigger contracts for top free agents

  11. Flaherty I can see.

Alonso you are kidding if you think that is anything other than trying to drive his price lol.

  12. Alonso is likely looking for a lengthy contract. Giants don’t have a need for a long-term FA at 1B. I don’t see the Giants being in the mix for him at all.
