This Should NOT Have Counted! (Plus Avalanche Fan RANT)

Yes this video didn’t get monetized LOL

The Colorado Avalanche beat the Buffalo Sabres in OT 6-5 in a comeback win. Scott Wedgewood got injured in this game and while laying down and rolling in pain, Benson scored a wrap around goal that became controversial. Should this goal have counted? Let me know your thoughts!

The Buffalo Sabres goal scorers were Jason Zucker (3), Bowen Byram, and Zach Benson. The Colorado Avalanche goal scorers were Cale Makar (2), Ross Colton, Mikko Rantanen, Jonathan Drouin, and Devon Toews.

  1. As a Sabres fan from the beginning – when there were 14 teams – I feel that should not have been allowed. There was no violation of a rule, but it was poor sportsmanship. (Send the ref to the box.)

  2. As far as the play not being blown… I seriously would like to know what if that puck got thrown to the point and a one timer gets ripped on goal? THAT is why I have an issue mainly with this. Did they give them the free goal because it was harmless, or would they have blown it dead if it came out from behind the net? Plays like this get blown dead ALL THE TIME for skaters, its crazy to see how inconsistent the calls are. If the NHL actually prioritizes safety Id love to hear a detailed explanation because I could find a few comparison videos that will have them called out.

  3. Dallas stars 2019 vs the blues. Bishop down in net hurt and whistle never blew because the blues had possession then scored on the empty net. It was a big goal in that playoff game. It’s not like this rule has changed over time or they’re picking on Avs fans. This has happened before…

  4. I personally think the refs made the right call to let it play. I've seen defensemen break their legs blocking shots and the refs keep the play going until their team clears the zone.

Avs player pushes Sabres player into his own goalie and the Sabres maintain control of the zone. Refs should have waited until the Avs got firm control of the puck before calling it dead.

This is all just from what I've seen before. Behind the net is still a scoring opportunity these days, and Avs fans should be mad at their own guy for pushing Benson, not Benson. I wish the refs treated injuries differently, but this is consistent with how the refs call it

  5. I remember a few years back when Matt Calvert was struck in the head with a puck and was seriously struggling and bleeding on the ice. If I remember correctly, we were playing the Canucks and Elias Petterson had the decency to stop the play and point it out. Too bad Benson didn't have the same sense of sportsmanship. Piece of garbage. I like your Avs fan guest, by the way. 😅

  6. The play would have been whistled dead if the Avs had the puck. But as long as the Sabres have the puck and no player is in imminent danger, there's no reason to stop play.

No infractions occurred, and no one was in danger, so the play continues. It was a good call.

  7. It was less than five seconds, and the goalie still had all protective equipment in place. The ref sees the goalie isn't getting back up right before the puck enters the net, and even the commentator only realizes that he's hurt in time to mention it after the goal has been scored. It's very obvious that it shouldn't have been overturned, and I think that when it's played at full speed, it's also unrealistic to expect it to be blown dead.

  8. Mentioning that the league needs to address it. The refs did call Toronto last night for a decision. The League just F you to all the goalies in the league. This is Matt Calvert injury all over again. Unfortunately my feelings is there will be another injury soon. Something is going to happen with another player or goalie. I have a bad feeling.
