As a pens fan, Bennett basically gave us a free point in the standings and the cats are lucky it wasn’t 2. Making it a 6-4 with an empty net is much easier than it is 6-5 lol.
Bruins jersey. And you call yourself a VanFan 😡
Way I see it is it's the definition of drawing a line in the sand this is just on the ice. If you start allowing goals that were x millimeters offsides or within x many seconds of zone entry, now it becomes a gamey dynamic of how far can we push that line for the offense which can only lead to more unequal, arbitrary outcomes that will largely come down to which referees you have out, where one team will get their score removed where the night before a more egregious example had their goal stay.
Offense is already incentivized to score by any means possible then put the onus on the scored on team to challenge the play, worst case scenario for the team that scored their goal is taken away and they are back to neutral whereas for scored on team has to risk the bench minor just to reset to to neutral. Nobody is forcing teams to enter offside, if you score 1 minute after entering the zone offside then claim it had no bearing on the play, why weren't you being more careful if you knew it could reach so far back? Seems a great deterrent to me. More likely than not that early entry resulted in a shot shot attempt on the rush, dump in or a won board battle you otherwise shouldn't have been able to get to. It has to be the way it is to keep this form of "pushing the envelope" in check.
Offsides reviews are taking too long should be in all-caps and a video all its own.
I’m still in favor of moving the linesmen off the ice, put ‘em in a spot by the glass (opposite sides from each other) and open some space out there. Coaches have instant access via tablet to review potential offsides (after a goal was scored) the linesmen didn’t catch.
Fair enough, but too many goals are being overturned and often they’re game-changers. This needs to end.
I'm not sure about giving 100%, but I'm certain the players will give 70-80% in 4 nations tournament as opposed to no effort in the allstar game. Saying that I wouldn't be surprised if both teams are giving 100% in the final game to decide who the winner is. I expect players to give significantly more effort when wearing their nation's colours over wearing doritos colours
No attempt to play the body, hands raised, deliberate punch to the head. This kind of play and player need to be removed from the league – deserved a five game suspension
Just get rid of offsides all together. Take the blue lines out. You say, "then you can just put a guy in front of the other team's goalie for the whole game." Yeah, and play one guy down in your zone the whole game. It would be wild at first, but the coaches would figure out a way to make it boring just like they did with 3-on-3 overtime. There's no offsides in basketball and they make it work. And they have offsides in soccer without a blueline. In the NHL world anything they're not doing can't be done.
I feel like there should be a 3 minute time limit on reviews, even that seems high . But if you can't figure it out after spending 3 minutes and using a microscope. Just go with the call on the ice
I’m always unsettled when I see that Montreal Canadiens logo with a full blue interior like that. I don’t know why. It looks like those you see on fake jerseys.
They play Dobes against the leagues best teams it seems. What a way to start your career
There is no reason why the NHL couldn’t have a buzzer that tells the linesmen exactly when the puck crosses the blue line, and they could focus their attention completely on the players.
Fire Keefe Now. He’s already becoming responsible for the drop in power rankings.
I think you are onside on your offside reviews but I am currently reviewing the video.
The worst thing about the offsides reviews for me is that the linesmen are just letting everything go on, they don’t have to whistle it- it either gets no goal and no review, or the review fixes it. It’s lazy, and teams also seem to be taking advantage of it, though obviously wasting goals isn’t much of an advantage, and then the fans suffer for it.
A fine is not fine.
Four Nations is absolutely going to be exhibition style. No player is going to want to potentially get hurt in a tournament with no stakes.
You picked up the Bergeron. Nice jersey!
The 4 nations cup is not the Olympics or World Championship. It's not the Canada Cup or The World Cup. There's no history behind it and no real reason to hold it. It's basically an exhibition series just for the sake of having an exhibition series. I don't think players will be putting their all into this even if they think they are. Subliminally they will be playing an All Star game and thinking ahead to the playoffs and not wanting to get hurt ahead of them. I don't think it'll be a very exciting tournament, especially with no Russian players there. I'm not excited for this at all.
I read the title as “Bennett Fired” and was like huh?
The hit was fine, that's why he got fined…
Offside: If you need a video to tell the difference there is no unfair advantage! Replay should only overturn if the call was clearly missed. Yes, that makes it a judgment call, but refs can do that just fine. This is better than delaying the game and than penalizing the challenging team.
4 nations cup is not going to be Olympic level competition. If you guys remember the last world cup of hockey, the players played very cautious hockey. Scared of getting hurt very little physicality. I still liked the WCOH and I think I will like the 4 nations cup. There are alot of stars with skill on these teams. However guys are too worried about getting hurt before the playoffs so they won't go at it 100% more like 70%.
Yes there needs to be a limit on the offsides challenges. I would like to see a >3 player touch rule (can be same player for first and third touches) or X seconds have passed, whichever occurs first. The idea being that the offending team loses the advantage by that point, making the offsides a moot point.
We know Marchand enjoys when fans of other teams boo him. He might enjoy even more the reluctant cheers when he plays for Team Canada.
can we finally accept that bennet is just a dirty player who tries to injure other players. sure he's got skill but he's a rat and always has been
Those challenges should have a time limit. If they can not tell anything in two minutes then continue the game. Thank you and have a good day.
I might be in the minority here and I know it would never happen, but I wish they’d just scrap the offside challenge altogether. We did just fine without it. And if you get scored on after a missed offside call, thems the breaks. It could go your way the next time.
Yeah
Don't remember which game it was that I watched yesterday, where the coach took a time out to decide if to challenge or not, effectively adding another half minute to the review time.
All video reviews should be timed to a maximum of 3 minutes. Given the multitude of angles captured on all plays, a obvious error in a call should be easy to make. Anything longer to determine is too small to be of consequence. The long reviews just kills the flow of the game.
More refs and they miss more offsides. The chalenge is like a safety net for them
A beautiful scoring play negated because a roomful of video “coaches” reviewing everything, reports to the coach that a player is a centimeter offside, is one of the suckiest thing in hockey. The wonks in some office full of monitors up in Toronto, are basically controlling games. The “ref you suck” calls after a review are misguided. The refs look at the video, but ultimately it is the league office that makes the final call. One of two things need to change:
(1) Put a time limit on being able to call the review—say maybe 30 seconds after the infraction. This should apply to offsides, icing, puck knocked down by a high stick, and other minor things—especially grievous if the infraction happened at center ice 5 minutes before the goal is scored. If a linesman misses a call by millimeters, just accept that it could happen to either team. Quit slowing the game down and turning it into a video game. Goaltender interference should be reviewable since it almost always will happen within 30 seconds of the puck going in. Everything else should just be let go. Trust the linesman will miss 1 centimeter offsides occasionally.
Or
(2) Allow unlimited reviews (keeping the delay of game penalty for the goal being good, but do not allow video reviews of the entire game to be watchable. Let the assistant coaches up in the booth report to the head coach, but ban those infernal iPads!!! Make it an illegal equipment penalty if anyone working for a team is spotted by a league official; using a tablet. I know this one would be hard to enforce though.
6:45 legit the same complaint in Europe in regards to VAR it helps but it does slow the game down.
They should change the offside rule to now fit better with video review. Like its only offside if let’s just say more than half their body is considered offside, and they can review it so if it appears that it’s only a couple inches that were offside then it doesn’t count.
