NYR claim Kaliyev off waivers from LAK

  1. Hell yeah. Connecticut boy with an opportunity.

I wonder who sits? It should be a veteran but it will probably (wrongfully) be like berard or Cuylle

  2. Back in his draft year this dude was a hugely polarizing prospect. If memory serves correct he had an insane shot/goal scoring and the rest of his game was a work in progress. I have no clue how he’s progressed at a NHL level, but his production was similar to Kakko’s and they were from the same draft class. His defense is probably horrible but hey maybe he can score, worth a gamble.

  3. Kinda excited about this, a free 23 y/o with some upside? If it works out it’ll be great, if not we got him for free.

  4. I remember seeing him at the draft and learning more about the type of player he is and so I am very excited to see him getting a new opportunity with the Rangers!

He could very well be a solid 3rd liner and hopefully get that scoring touch that he has, as this will elevate scoring pressure off others.

  5. It was such an obvious move, I thought there’s no way in hell we wouldn’t bungle it. Glad to see Drury make this decision

  6. Oh wow Drury made a move I wanted him to make. A broken clock is right twice a day.

Also, this could pay off. Incredibly low risk, good potential reward.

  7. WOW i can’t believe they did it. he’s exactly like Kakko so I never thought in a million years they would do this

    great stuff

over the last 3 years at 5v5, among 302 Fs with as much TOI (1888:00), Kaliyev’s ranks:

    shot attempts/60: 21st
    shots/60: 17th (!!)
    chances/60: 36th
    high-dangers/60: 51st
    shooting%: 300th

that’s a really quality player getting an unfair shake, simply because of not finishing

  8. I believe he’s been wearing #34…someone let him know that number is currently on reserve

  9. Really hoping he breaks out. Would save us from potentially making a costly free agent signing in the summer or another trade like the one for Reilly Smith that doesn’t really move the needle.

  10. I’m good. Untapped potential. Possible change of scenery candidate though but a lot of his game reminds of the recently dearly departed KK

  11. Explain to me why this is “a good signing”? Because to me this reeks of another Julien Gauthier/Emerson Etem/Enver Lisin/Erik Christensen reclamation project.

  12. Saw that he was on waivers yesterday and yea I also did think Drury was too dumb to actually claim him. Good shit, big fan of this.

  13. Low/zero risk with a possible high upside. Can be a valuable 3rd liner. There was lots of interest in this guy in his draft year. Who knows what went tits up in his time in LA, but give Drury a check mark on this one. Let him recondition in Hartford for 15 games and then cycle him in on 3rd and 4th line work. Don’t understand why Chicago didn’t make a move here. At 23 he has a good 2 seasons to figure things out, which works well for their schedule on rebuilding.

Next move I’d like to see… Trent Frederick to add some much needed sandpaper. Love Jimmy Vesey, but I see his days here as numbered.

  14. Some players do need that reality check of getting put on waivers to break out. Others not so much. At this piont I don’t see that much of a gamble in seeing if he can be a good bottom 6 player.

  15. So does this mean both Vesey and Brodz are going to be scratched now besides Jones once Kreids is back?

  16. He’ll shoot the puck before Rangers fans have a chance to yell “SHOOT ITTTTT SHOOT THE PUCK SHOOOOOOOOOT” and so I guess that’s a plus.

  17. It’s kinda funny that Kakko was the 2nd pick who’s was a LH shoot RW that wasn’t meeting expectations

This guy is the second pick in the second round who’s a LH shot RW who wasn’t quite meeting expectations

I guess at least this guy is a lot cheaper.

  18. Put him on the first line and we will forget about Buch. Dude has a very good shot. Feed him the puck and watch the goals stack.

  19. Sooo god damn excited about this. Probably the one thing I’m looking forward to in this shitty season. Love his game. Shoot first mentality, which this team needs more of. And if he’s treated well (which is a long shot with this team’s development), he very well could develop one of the best shots in the league. Hell, even now he’s got some velo on his shot.

Definitely a great pickup. Little to no downside with this move. Still very young and could easily hit his ceiling.

  20. This is the type of move that completely turns a season around. Everything is gonna be clicking now.

  21. watching some highlights bc im not familiar with him at all but dang they aren’t lying about his shot

play him with vinny and panarin lol

  22. I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t like this move? There’s literally zero risk to this. Kaliyev is making 825k on a one year deal that expires at the end of the season. If it doesn’t work out, then he walks as a UFA, or is maybe another trade chip at the deadline. I think this guy can be a like a Vatrano, and put up 20-25 goals a season if given the opportunity.

  23. Guys been hurt over last 2 seasons; big body but very physical or defensively sound. Can rip it from right dot on PP; play him across Bread and he’ll pot 25

  24. this is a good claim. We need to become a team where players can improve when they get here.

  25. lol you trade kk and pick up this guy from the scrape heap ! For the love of Pete fire this GM ‼️🤦‍♂️
