Kmet is a top TE but he not being given a chance by the previous OC every great team has a TE like Kmet Ben Johnson will unlock Kmet true potential. You dont pay a player this kind of money and dont use him this is dumb
This is not it. This would be adding to the team's holes instead of solving them. We are not lacking cap space. If you feel you're a pass rusher away from contending and have a decent option behind Cole but not enough money, sure let's have that discussion. Cutting Kmet to make a large amount of cap space even larger but making more holes in the process, that'll be a no go. A young QB is helped a lot by having a good, reliable TE. Also, the discussion about drafting a TE to replace him seems silly. To get a TE that will make an impact will take away from picks that should go to the trenches. You'll end up doing something like the following:
– Sign a B/C tier offensive lineman for way more than he should be paid because it's free agency and the money saved from Cole wouldn't be that much.
– Draft a tight end to replace Cole in round 2 or 3, thus taking away a young and cheap offensive line prospect.
As opposed to…
Have a star TE that is slightly overpaid.
Use your pick on a good interior offensive line prospect in round 2-3 (stars are found on the interior constantly in those rounds). That young lineman will potentially be the same or near the same quality as the B/C tier guy you can afford with Cole's money, but in this case you have him on the cheap for 4 years.
If we can get a 4th round pick, get him outta here. He is a good player though, but …….
I don't think he will be expendable. I do however, see Gerald Everett, and DeMarcus Walker potentially freeing up another 10M in cap space. Ryan Bates, could be another @ +4M savings.

Not sure why Bears' fans think Kmet is an all-pro. Not even close. Highly overrated so let someone overpay for him. Return of a 2nd & 3rd would do nicely. This is a good TE draft so get younger and more versitile at that position.
Cut Dominique Robinson, cut Ryan Bates cut Johnathan Owens, Cut DeMarcus Walker, Cut Kevin Byard.
All these guys would be backup on elite Teams.
