Unrivaled has formed a lovely bond between Angel Reese and Lisa Leslie bond.
When Angel arrived in Miami, she knew she would do a few things: stay stateside, make money and work on her craft. Those things have still happened, but her time with Unrivaled has included something else—help from WNBA Hall of Famer Lisa Leslie.
On Unrivaled’s broadcast team, Leslie has spent time with Angel, getting to know her as she prepares to call the league’s games. That relationship has blossomed into a mentorship. “The biggest advice I have for you is going to be how you shoot your lay-ups. Period. Like we’re going to fix that,” Lisa recently told Angel on her podcast.
While the tweak to Angel’s game is still a work in progress, there are some immediate positive signs.
More patience in the paint. Better footwork. Finishing higher off the glass.
There are even early flashes of more efficiency, which will significantly help Angel as she moves into year two of her WNBA career. On Friday, she had 22 points and 21 rebounds on 52 percent shooting. During a February 18 matchup, she had 16 points and 15 rebounds on 50 percent shooting.
She may not have that kind of production every night, but it’s progress that can carry over to the W season, and that’s a huge win.
Shoutout to Lisa Leslie for pouring her wealth of knowledge into the young star. It’s already paying dividends.
