I'm still bummed out we couldn't
get Cozens who seems to be exactly what we need on the 2nd. Like many young players he's been inconsistent but playing with a play driver like Demidov would have certainly helped his offensive stats. He's a hard worker, fits the type of player Hugo wants.
My guess is we did make a good offer but for prospects and picks. Buffalo wanted immediate help. We had no one to trade like the guy Buffalo eventually received…

I'm not sure what UFAs are available that fit the 2C needs. With RFAs, a prospect and/or draft pick(s) may have to be dealt. I'm glad I'm not the one pulling the trigger. A shut down 1D would be spectacular as well.

San Bennett prominent role on Team Canada won Stanley cup as 2nd line center but he's not good enough to be a 2nd line center on Montreal
I'd like to see how far Newhook can go if he had top notch wingers. Could we find a 1+1+1=5 situation?
How many bodies are going to be moved? Dvorak, Beck, Evans, Newhook. A definite no on Bennett.
Alex Newhook will slowly drift off the the team. We have him cheap $2.9 million for two more years, but honestly he needs to be on a scoring line to have some value. He's very fast, has little finish.
Sam Bennett is a temperamental inconsistent, violent but also penalty prone center.
Saw him play for six years in Calgary and at some points he gave up on the team. Generally he was a loose cannon. He had 27 points and 93 penalty minutes at age 21.
It would be nice if Montreal could draft that 70 point center.
Reminds me a little of Murray Wilson or Russ Courtnall. And he's not as good as Courtnall. Maybe just a Bobby Sheehan.

Spurt of speed and not a lot else. Flames had a guy Matthew Lombardi who lead the league in botched breakaways. Created opportunities, couldn't finish them.
I agree with Marco about Bennett, it just doesn't make sense for this team. Jared McCann with 2 more years at 5m would be perfect.
Im kinda interested in bo horvat. He's a veteran guy who puts up good points every season. He's a former captain, so he's a good leader and hell be around until hage comes into the league.
Our fourth line needs to have players who can easily plug into the third line
