Hello my fellow transit enthusiasts and Mets fans. Exciting news: you can take a vintage red bird to the home opener next week! I have tix to Sunday's game, not Friday's, but I'm definitely gonna check this out anyway.
Nostalgia Ride to Mets' Home Opener
Friday, April 4th, 12pm ET
Departs 34 St-Hudson Yards on the 7 line
Free with subway fare!Letβs Go Mets! To help the Amazinβ Mets start their season, the museumβs redbirds will take flight across the 7 line, leaving from 34 St-Hudson Yards at 12pm on Friday, April 4th, and making several stops on the way to Mets-Willets Point. Whether you're a longtime Flushing Faithful or a first-time visitor to Citi Field, youβll arrive at the ballpark feeling ready for the season. This is our year! From the first pitch to the final out, it's all about Mets magic.
Please Note: The vintage train will depart from 34 St-Hudson Yards at approximately 12pm. The Mets Nostalgia Train will make stops at Times Sq-42 St, 5 Av, Grand Central-42 St, Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av, Hunters Point Av, Court Sq, Queensboro Plaza, 61 St-Woodside, Junction Blvd, and Mets-Willets Point. The ride to Queens is about 35 minutes, getting fans to the stadium with plenty of time before the first pitch at 3:10pm. There will be no return trip.
For more information about these events offered by the Transit Museum, check out this page. They're doing the same thing for the Yankees home opener with a train from 1917

I wonder if the cabin lights will still go out periodically like back in the day.
NYC baseball + NYC subway history: name a more iconic duo.
Thereβs been some really cool, if not kinda goofy, subway/transit related merch for the Mets and the Yankees in the past and at some point I plan to do a deep dive into the different iterations of the 7 train that show up in Mets media.
Then you get crazy unlicensed stuff like this, lmaoβ¦
