I wish we could sign Contreras to anything close to what Raleigh got
Contreras is going to get 35-40M per year in FA, not less than 20.
6/120 for Contreras would be nice and it seems pretty affordable. Hitting catchers are hard to come by and the years line up really nicely with his age. Contreras also loves it here, so I think he would take it as well. Unsure if we will do it but sometimes Mark A surprises.
For William, the more years is going to be a higher average.
4 might be 80 5 might be 120 6 might be 150
(Examples of course).
I’m a big fan of William Contreras and he has been a huge success for us.
Having said that, if we are working within the same payroll constraints, the Brewers should not extend a catcher. Too risky for a low payroll team to commit a large percentage of their payroll to a catcher. He’s likely to age poorly and/or move off of catcher.
On too of that, we might have our next every day catcher already in the system. Really looking forward to see how Quero comes back from injury.
It brings me absolutely no joy in saying this, but the Brewers should probably either let Contreras walk in free agency or trade him prior to his final season of arbitration
Players who come from a poor background and want to uplift their families are the ones who sign those buyout extensions. He can wait until he hits free agency thanks to his brother.
If they are going to sign him to this kind of contract, I’d expect him to move off catcher.
We’re shelling out closer to 200 I’m (not) sad to say for the best catcher in the league
I’ve been very skeptical of signing Contreras long term, the idea of paying for any years past 33 makes me very nervous.
But they should definitely be offering him this sort of deal.
I have no idea why he’d take the offer though.
I do think being a year younger makes a big difference to what both orgs and his agents think about his value.
Contreras can easily move to 1B when he’s too old or Quero is ready. That bat absolutely plays at 1B, and fills a hole we’ve had since Fielder left
Contreras is going to get a hell of a lot more than $20M/yr
Contreras and Raleigh are commonly regarded as the two best catchers in baseball currently and each had 3 years of team control remaining before this news. If the Brewers were to sign 3+3 extension with Contreras like Seattle has done with Cal, the terms would likely be similar.
Well, Contreras will be gone the minute his contract is up.
Looks like he’s an UFA in 2028.
Crew holdin’ out for Quero. I’m not sure Contreras is in their long-term plans if they can pay a top prospect less. Hopefully his shoulder injury doesn’t impede to much on his performance
He’ll get that money! Just not from MKE.
And the fans will be all for it and pack his bags for him cuz Jefferson Quero is going to be the shiny new Toy for cheap!
And then when the scratch off ticket Jefferson Quero has a career like Mat Gamel/Matt Laporta they’ll be quiet and say “That’s just baseball” Rinse wash repeat lol
And you older fans still don’t have a clue why baseball is dying with the younger generation cuz we know the roster building is bullshit but the boomers are all over it like flies on shit lol
I’ll be rooting for another Lockout so we don’t have to pretend this shit is fair
Mark Attanasio better start selling all that rare beach sand he’s stealing if he wants to make this work.
We won’t be extending him, so it’s moot.
We know we ain’t paying him that
I 100% believe they have no intention of signing Contreras. They will use him until his last year then replace him for a full time Quero. It’s what this team does unfortunately.
contreras is either #1 or #2 catcher in the league
itll be a christmas miracle if they keep him, thanks mark.
