How do the small-market Padres continue to make a big splash?

Not the worst Kevin Acee article tbh, and I think there is a very interesting implication to get out of it.
This in particular stuck out to me:
> “We’re doing the most we can do,” Greupner said. “We don’t ever sit on our hands and say, ‘Oh, that’s the most we can do.’ We’re constantly working to find new sources of revenue, and we’re constantly working to find ways to grow revenue, because we have to. We have to counteract the decline in media revenue, and we have to continue to support a payroll that can allow us to be competitive year in and year out for a World Series championship. And the only way to do that is for us to continue to punch well above our weight class when it comes to generating revenue.”
The Padres might actually have no choice but to field as competitive of a roster as possible. If they decide to blow it up, they lose out massively on gameday revenue and concessions, and probably lose a noteworthy chunk of their sponsorship and media revenue.

Fans controlling the Padres revenue streams, better not blow this roster up later lol.
I didn’t realize the Dodgers TV revenue was like 300+ million. No wonder they can throw money around on players and hookers.
Small markets despite being the 6th largest city in America lmao
8th largest city in America. I’m sick of our small town reputation.
SD is the best baseball city in the country with the best stadium in the country. It is also not cheap but worth it. It’s also managed very well by Erik Gruepner and AJ. We have solid scouts in the Caribbean and in the minors. It boils down to leadership and ours is good.
