ZIAIRE WILLIAMS

Projected Next Contract: Veteran Minimum

Analysis: Williams has played better with Nets, but he’s unlikely to get tendered a qualifying offer. That will make him an unrestricted free agent. From there, Williams will probably have to take a minimum deal to continue finding his way in the NBA.

CAM THOMAS

Projected Next Contract: three years, $45 million

Analysis: Thomas can score. He’s a better playmaker than most realize. The Nets aren’t in a position to let young talent walk out the door, but Brooklyn can’t start overpaying guys yet either. Unless there’s a team that falls in love and wants to work a sign-and-trade deal for Thomas, expect Brooklyn to get him back on a solid value contract. Think what Coby White signed for, plus a bit to represent the new cap environment. From there, it’s up to Thomas to outplay the deal, much like White has.

DAY’RON SHARPE

Projected Next Contract: three years, $30 million

Analysis: Sharpe is essentially the big man equivalent of teammate Cam Thomas. The Nets can’t just let him walk, but bigs don’t generally get paid as much as scoring wings/guards do. And Brooklyn already has Nic Claxton and Noah Clowney under contract too. That’ll push Sharpe’s deal down a bit, but he should still get a nice payday.

Thoughts?

  1. I’m putting the top priority on Day’ron for sure. We need that boy to stick around.

  2. I think their read on Ziaire is pretty bad and shows they probably aren’t tapped into this team at all. It’s much more likely we try to lock him up on a 2-3 year team friendly deal. Only 23, great fit for a developing, defense-oriented team, and has shot nearly 40% from 3 since the All-Star break. Jordi and the coaches obviously like him a lot.

  3. I thought his numbers for Cam and Day’ron were spot on, I was shocked he thought Ziaire would only get a Vet Min. I initially didn’t want to resign him, but recently he’s been our best shooter and obviously, he’s a good defender, a 2 year deal seems fair. maybe 2/$15

His other predictions surprised me, he has Grimes & Kuminga getting 4/$100 (LOL, That guy is awful)

  4. I’ll eat a shoe if Cam takes 3/45… there’s just no way that happens. Marks has a history of “overpaying” our own FAs

Ziaire will also get more than a minimum

  5. Thanks for posting this, because I’ve seen a lot of speculation around the last few months on Cam Thomas and Day’Ron Sharpe’s next deals.

Both the Thomas and Sharpe deals are surprising for different reasons.

Before the season began, I fully expected Thomas to sign for somewhere in the 4/$100m range, and I expected Sharpe to get 2/$18m.

    Let’s see what happens.

  6. Cam getting more than that.

Damn near any team with championship aspirations and a bit of cap space will pay him 20 mil a year bare minimum. If Cam Johnson (prior to this season got 20 mil a year) it’s kind of obvious a growing player with possible scoring leader potential would get 20 a year as a given.

Not to mention the cap space has gone up.

He’s worth 70 – 75 Mil – 3 years just to suffice if not more.

You don’t have to like Cam Thomas but thinking there isn’t a team that won’t give him more than 45 mil / 3 years is just plain hateful and disrespectful.

  7. I get the cam contract.  Someone will need to offer him something bigger and no one has cap space.

Same thing with zaire.  I doubt anyone offers him more than the vet min so if we do anything more we should be able to retain him.

Dayron I wouldn’t want to give more than 8 per.  He’s improving but he still is only a 1 tool guy.  His 1 tool is elite, but I don’t think that makes him worth 10 mil per.

  8. Yall seriously overestimate cam Thomas. Players with his skill set are all seen as overpays recently.

  9. If we can get CT for 15m a year, we need to lock him for as many years as possible.

  10. I would take on all 3 at those contracts. I having a feeling CT feels he deserves more and would rather play somewhere else if that’s all we offer him.

  11. Retaining all of them on long term deals should be a priority this offseason.

Ziaire is the type of player that fits Jordi’s mold who steps up to the occasion and is showing improvement every season, Day’Ron is a great backup center that could potentially be a trade asset if we draft another stud center, and CT is still young with potential and has become a fan favorite within this franchise.

Hopefully we don’t have to overpay, it would be great if we can extend all of them plus Watford.
