Beating the Sabres was an absolutely brutal defeat for the tank. That said, we do still have the 5th spot right now. Seattle has one less point, and the Penguins are tied. It’s gonna be a very difficult stretch for the Flyers, especially if Shaw keeps helping these guys win games.
It’s a good thing we’re recovering the toxic culture that might’ve existed during Torts’ time here.. but winning 2 straight is not good for our goal.
If we finish 5th, we will still have a shot at a top 3 pick (Misa range), but it’s looking less likely at this point.
THE GOOD NEWS- as others have pointed out, this is a very deep draft class. If we finish with a top 7 pick we could still get a very good C with a ton of upside. Plus with 2 other 1sts and numerous 2nds, Danny could always make more moves.
TL;DR- things are trending in the wrong direction, but there are still positives to this!

This isn’t a very deep draft. All I’ve seen from everyone is that you wanna pick top 5 and at worst top 10 because there’s a steep drop off in talent.
Edit: I hope the insiders and scouts are wrong in terms of 6-10 not dropping off that far, but that’s who I’ve been listening to over the last few weeks after the deadline. There’s a reason 1-5 is being hyped up a ton this draft.
We have a few games in hand on the 2 below us I think we’ll end up at 4 hopefully

Firing torts with 8 games left is the worst move Danny has made so far imo. Unless he literally had no choice because of a physical altercation or something I don’t see the value in it.

I’ve been saying it to everyone that will listen. I’ve been team tank this whole time. but honestly, fuck the pick. Michkov has 5 pts in two games, including 4 goals. Michkov is thriving. that’s really all I care about rn. the pick will probably be top 10 regardless. it’s fun seeing him kick ass. I’m not worried about it

This is not a deep draft class. At all. Its the top 3-4, then a crapshoot.
Buffalo has games in hand and 5 of our last 7 games are against teams fighting for a wildcard spot. If they don’t get up to beat the flyers, they’re not serious about getting in the playoffs
The pic doesnt even include Boston who has lost 7 straight and fully given up on season. Flyers could easily end up 7th/8th.
