#Texans HC DeMeco Ryans on the #Packers’ proposal to ban the tush-push: “It’s tough to punish a team for being really good at something.”

  1. You can identify which coaches have winning mentalities by the way they’ve approached the ban.

  2. Respect for sure. But a reminder:

The coaches can say whatever coach speak they want. They are the faces of the teams, and say the things the fans want to hear, and say the things that will motivate the players. And inspire them both to root for the team and play for the team.

The owners are the ones that make the decision, and I doubt the coaches enthusiasm for stopping a play, improving the defense, and improving the team, has as much input on what the owners will decide. Its all about the money they receive for having the best final product. The coaches will say what they will to appease the fans, while the owners vote for the ban in the background.

  3. I’ve got a bad feeling all these coaches preaching the spirit of the game in support of the tush push means nothing in the conversations happening behind closed doors with the owners.

What leverage do the other coaches have? “Hey, even though we haven’t figured out how to do it in 3 years, we might one day” isn’t a strong argument.

Think about Maras reaction on losing Barkley. His first concern was jersey sales. These guys operate on a different plane of thinking and I highly doubt they’ll be concerned with the moral/ethical implications of banning a play just because one team is really good at it.

  4. Honestly, if I’m looking to hire a coach, I want this mentality.

Anyone seeking excuses to ban it is a weak person. Loser mentality. Excuse maker.

I don’t want a weak person leading my team.

  5. Should we ban the forward pass next? Creates an unfair advantage, and has been particularly unfair to several teams, most notably the Cleveland Browns.

  6. Can someone tell me how a player jumping into the stands is safe for players? Oh. Sorry Green Bay I thought you wanted “player safety”.

  7. What Texans and Jets front office and coaches are saying sounds nice, but they’re not the ones who vote. This would be nice cover for an owner to vote the other way without too much of a PR hit. I hope I’m wrong.

  8. Something tells me this play is doomed to be banned. Even if it survives another year, this feels like a “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” situation. Coaches will carousel again next year and eventually Stephen Jones will get the right combination of spineless frauds to get this play nixed.

But in the words of a wise player we once had, “it don’t matter.”

  9. They should ban the play action. It’s not fair. Some teams are better at it.

  10. Saquon definitely should’ve punched that last touchdown vs the Packers in the playoffs. Fuck em.
