The Bills PROBLEM with the ‘TUSH PUSH’, James Cook CONTRACT SAGA continues and CB draft PROSPECTS
Sean McDermott was a popular guy at the NFL Owner’s meeting on Monday. Everyone and their mother wanted to hear his thoughts on the proposed rule change to ban the ‘Tush Push.’ The Bills head coach is in favor of making the play illegal but his logic behind it seems flawed.
Christian Benford became the FIFTH Bills player to get a contract extension this offseason but Brandon Beane says talks with James Cook are over… for now.
Mike, Jenna and Dan discuss all of that and more on the latest episode of the Buffalo Plus Podcast.

The extensions have been great, but I'm getting worried that they're all expiring at the same time.
This is such a hypocritical stance by Sean McDermott and the nonsense claim that the data points to player safety, when there is ZERO data to back up anything he is saying. This guy is grasping at straws—is Green Bay paying him to support them on this change? Leave the damn play alone.
I think that there is something that scientifically we might not be seeing yet. Or… they are just trying to control wins and losses. As for Cook, my honest opinion is that he still hasn’t earned Saquon numbers. You gotta catch, run, block, and make splash plays all in the season. Specifically doing all of this in the playoffs. Now The Bills have been lucky with running backs. Especially recently. You have a room of running backs that can do just as much as Cook. So honestly what’s the difference in all of them? Not too much. Well accept that Cook recently has been dropping passes and he can’t really block. But that’s not too much of a drop off.
You gotta earn your keep.
Tush push. Jason Kelce hated the play. I am assuming his body took a beating at the bottom of the pile. While there is no injury data, there have been times I have cringe looking at the twisted position Josh’s body was in. Coach may be reacting to that and other player’s bodies. The behavior in those piles may be no different from the nonsense during fumbles. Truthfully OCs need to add some tush push wrinkles that will keep the defense honest and not assume it’s simply full steam ahead!
Quoting Mina Kimes doesn’t really help your argument… even if your argument is valid…
The only reason I can see for Sean (I know this isn't the actual reason) to want to ban the tush push is that he publicly comes out against it so he can say "oh I would rather have had this play been banned but oh well, here we go" as Josh dives it in the endzone to win the superbowl 😂
The Bills don't operate the tush push the same way at all. Phiily gets a couple huge men behind that push, the Bills will with use one back or one TE and don't go as low but aim for the gap with Josh doing the majority of the pushing himself.
I'd like to see a team just sit two D linemen on the ground before the eagles even snap the ball. Can't get lower than already on the ground and would be much harder to push backward. I think it would keep Philly from operating that play the way they want to.
GO CATS!!!!
I think all offensive players pushing or pulling players forward should be illegal
My suspicion is that the data McD is looking at is not injury data. The NFL collects a lot of data using sensors embedded in their equipment, and my guess is that those data reveal that there are moments where forces and impacts exceed some threshold. The whole thing about football is it's a very complex, violent game and there is a very small sample size that does not allow all data to regress to the mean. This play is very uncommon, so while there haven't been injuries on the field, they likely have evidence that the probability of serious injury to the qb is higher than they want to tolerate. We know the league protects qbs above all, and with two of the premier qbs in the league accounting for over 50% of the plays league wide. And that makes sense, because they get stood up and stopped (or slowed) and guys can come flying in and take their heads off. I get the caution, and I get why McD is looking more to protect JA than exploit that particular advantage.
Please Get back to Football, hugging Really!
After Covid passed, there are a ton of people who will not shake hands. You have to be ready to yield for a fist bump. Maybe that's just down here in Memphis.
"Love Jimbo"… Beane gets the 5 million Pinocchio's rating : )
So what’s McDermott going to do if the tush push is not banned? Keep using it and be a hypocrite? Stop and maybe hurt the offense?
Am I wrong but didn't Matt Milano's major injury happen during a tush push when the Bills played overseas?
What, does the NFL have a mandate to have new rules added every season? Stop all of this crap and just play the game!! All of these new rules are totally destroying the game. Football is an impact sport. That means that their are risks to playing the game. These players make millions of dollars to play this game and they know the risk. If they take the physical risk out of sports, they are no longer sports. What is next….will they put major league baseball batters behind plexiglass? Will they put boxers in bubble wrap? Should rodeo riders not ride bulls and horses because it's "dangerous"? These players are paid well to take risks. Let's not make the entire world risk free!
Sports is literally………..and I hate to use that word because it's so overused…………..about COMPETITION and SKILL!!!!
Pretty soon they will outlaw star players because they are better than the average guy! Sports is not about EQUITY!!!!!!!! They are destroying sports with this ridiculous logic! Next rule? Quarterbacks are no longer allowed to run the ball! End the madness!
25 minutes in…………………finally on to a less aggravating topic!!! I tune in her to get away from the insanity and the first half hour is about rules insanity that isn't even backed up by data. Can we go back to the 20th century?
I like James Cook but he's not so high and mighty that everyone is going to bow to him. A little bit conceited of Cook to expect to be treated like an ultra rare athlete. They hardly played him in the fourth quarter, against the Chiefs, because he is not great at catching the ball.
Aiding the runner any runner should be banned it wasn’t allowed 20 years ago it shouldn’t be allowed now this is football not rugby
When I played Spencerport football we implemented the double wing offense. Every play was basically a tush push play. The best way to stop it was for defenders to submarine the line chopping it at the knees. First year we ran it we lost 3 guys to torn acl injuries. I almost had my knee blown up as well. Anecdotal I know but I believe the concern is defenders cutting out knees to stop it. This is probably a nuance of the game which hasn’t been looked at too closely but Sean may be looking ahead of the curve.
The answer about the push is obvious: Sean McDermott doesn’t like the fact that the push gives offenses an unstoppable cheat code. It’s basically a guaranteed first down, and it’s sort of unfair. A teams defense needs to stop a team at 4th and 4+ in order to stop a drive. McDermott is a defensive mastermind and the push almost takes away from the art of defensive scheming when nothing they can do will stop the push consistently.
And the final segment turns into a Seinfeld episode!!!
Noon Lunch here in the Philippines Tuesday,Jenna. Your Replay is our appetizer + dessert. Enjoy your valuable Bills updates. Cheers!
Waffle Wednesday???? What does it have to do with waffles???? I'm confused.
Belated Birthday Greetings to Coach Sean!
My grandson says REMINDING YOU GUYS NOT TO INTERRUPT JENNNA & EACH OTHER WHATSOE ER, dig?
Coach Sean, Mike & Dan, TUSHPUSH (whatever?) w/ or w/o, Buffalo shall beat Phadelphia n SB60. Go Bills!
Jenna, if Coach Sean might be " illogical" , GM Brandon is LOGICAL ALWAYS.
You three argue even when agreeing 😂
James Cook must improve AT LEAST 35% during this tactical season as our ways & means to get to SB60 finally!
Maybe the nfl (and sean) have secret data that the push contributes to CTE. In that scenario, sean would not be able to speak about it
If they ban the push Ban QB sneaks. they should ban the running back slamming into the line of scrimmage and the O line pushing against the D line to gain extra yards. All of these plays are original plays of football. they are taking away everything physical with this game.

Finally, only Josh Allen shud help JoeBrady
DECIĎE who can be demoted or promoted among our O-PLAYERS.
My grandson likes to hug you dearly, Jenna.
They should sign cook but not $15 mil. I say a 4 year $44 mil with $32 guaranteed.
The tush push violates two rules, this is plain and simple and I can’t believe no one ever mentions it. It violates the chop block and the forward progress call. It clearly should be banned. D lineman have their legs taken out from underneath them almost always
And forward progress is often stopped and officials never call it yet they’ll call it in other instances during a game. It violates two existing rules, that’s why it should be banned.
You guys are clueless. It violates the chop block. Why can no one say this or see this. That’s why it should be banned.
Neck injuries are going to be a result. Chris Jones was injured in the SB with a neck injury after a tush push.
