Augsburg have been a relatively dull squad in the last decade, but seemingly do enough to stay in the top flight each year. That all changed this year as Augbsurg has finally shown some great signs of improvement. Despite an excellent run of form, they did not do enough to beat their Bavarian rivals. Bayern Munich will be happy to walk away with three points, but now with an injured Jamal Musiala.

Bayern Munich have loads of individual talent

Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, and Leroy Sané all had impressive performances to show off Bayern’s attacking flair. Overall, the attack was great considering how good defensively Augsburg has been this season, especially lately.

Injuries continue to hurt the squad

Jamal Musiala went down in this match with a non-contact injury. Little details are known thus far, but Musiala will surely miss some time with season defining matches on the horizon. Whether it is the heavy schedule, international breaks, lack of rotation, or the team staff that is leading to these injuries, the consequences are great. Bayern Munich will have to pull off something special with whatever players are available.

VAR troubles

Even though Bayern were on the benefiting side of the call, there was a clear error with the VAR in this match. Augsburg suffered a red card due to a second yellow that should not have been a foul. On replay, the player got ball first before taking down Harry Kane, but VAR could not reverse a decision on a yellow card. Seems a silly rule when that yellow directly leads to a red card. Bayern got lucky with this one, but the situation could flip against Bayern in the future. What is the point of VAR if not to call back these plays?
