Rod has too much respect for him and that is a problem.
He’s gonna be one of the heaviest anchors dragging us down in the playoffs
Gonna always remember this year as the year Make-A-Wish Trent got to extend his iron man streak instead of my team winning the Stanley Cup
Burns is a pylon and I’ve been saying it since last year, I also got downvoted to hell for it. He is not a top pairing guy. Sheltered minutes on the 3rd pair maybe.
Is that good
And yet Rod continues to give him big minutes. Rod is his own worst enemy and he’s too stubborn to see it
Father time is undefeated. Time for burns to hang it up
That’s because he fucking sucks ass every minute of every game and it’s considered headline worthy news when he Does His Job for once. Respectfully
Personality wise, one of my favorite guys on the team and I really did enjoy his past seasons. But this is where we see Rod the player making decisions, not Rod the coach. By default the powerplay is garbage and he just hasn’t elevated it all this year.
That’s over 40 gallons of pure water per day!
Come playoff time, he needs to be benched for Morrow. If we can get Nikishin over here in time, having him top pair would be better even it it means 2 LHD on 1 pair
Burns gets a ton of unfair flak because he plays with Slavin and everyone expects elite play from that pair and when we don’t get it we act Burns like is no longer an NHL level defenseman, but in reality he’s still got really strong underlyings and is playing at a level higher than we’re giving him credit for(not elite anymore but still a solid player). All that being said he 100% should not be touching the ice on the powerplay and it is coaching malpractice that he’s seemingly been stapled to that role.
Ghost on the PP is sooooo much better. Burns does literally nothing but extend his iron man streak.
Shocking that the guy who was a massive liability last year continues to be a liability this year
I don’t think he be on the PP anymore. Thatd be a huge step that wouldn’t affect his iron man but might help the team.
Hilariously, TDA would be more serviceable at this point. TDA has 17 points in 30 games with the Islanders compared to Burns’ 26 points in 77 games. In other words ~2/3 of Burns’ points in ~1/2 as many games. Yeah he sucks at D, but at least contributed to the PP (and was +30 when paired with Slavin).
I think Brent Burns should be on PP2, just not as a QB and with no responsibility for getting back. Put his big ass in front of the net.
