WingedWheelPod made this post on instagram and had me thinking of the possibilities for next year. I’m a doomer for this season but I still trust Yzerman overall despite a bad offseason last year. That being said immediately after the game against Montreal where are chances TANKED I started thinking about who are we going to replace Holl and Petry left because they need to go, I agree with this post Chiarot would be a great 3D but that means we need to actually add, call up ASP and sign a reliable defenseman and not someone that makes my heart drop everytime they’re out there. Same goes with our bottom 6. Senko needs to go and it’s more than likely we see Berger go too. So leaving the draft out of it because we know that unless by some miracle from Howe we get the first pick, no one we pick is playing next year, so what’s everyone’s predictions on what this offseason looks like, despite how “out there” some of these names may be, still a possibility.

  1. I could see us possibly getting Boeser ad Vilardi but I don’t think the others would leave their current teams

  2. Expecting ASP to make the team next year feels like you’re setting yourself up for disappointment

  3. The slapdicks that listen to those clowns will LOVE this, that’s a certainty.

  4. Mrazek isn’t going anywhere. He was explicitly signed to get goaltending certainty going into the summer. Surprised WWP doesn’t know this.

  5. Berger is an RFA, so Yzerman can choose to not qualify him and let him walk. I’d be fine with that decision.

  6. Honestly, I’m not really excited about this team unless Steve makes some big moves during the off-season, so I agree with this post.

We have prospects, sure, but I don’t think we can 100% rely on them to pan out. Soda and AlJo have been great call-ups, and I think Steve needs to give some of the other prospects a chance just to see where they are at in their development, and possibly get an idea of if they will work for our team rather than play the long game of waiting.

What we don’t need are more aging veterans or goalies, that’s for sure, and I hope Steve realizes the Tarasenko and Holl signings were awful moves. Spend some money and get some proven talent on our team. Talbot deserves the starting spot next season based on his latest performance.

As much as people complain about Kane, I think he’s become a crucial part of our PP and flashes his skill when given the opportunity. I’ve seen him become more physical and more aggressive on the boards as well. I really hope the rumors I heard about him leaving the Wings are false.

  7. The one thing I have to say is I don’t love their projected lines. Idk if this is a hot take, I’d rather seen Cat Larkin Kane, (Ehlers or alternate winger) Kasper Raymond tg

  8. Hoping Wallinder can make the jump. If he’s AlJo level of rookie competence next year we’re in business on D.

  9. Yeah this does look like something that came from that podcast.

that’s about all I want to say.

  10. Guys I hate to say this again but its the truth. Yzerman hasn’t shown urgency and he isnt going to now. Next year we will have Chiarot, Holl, Gus, Tarasenko, Copp and Compher all signed and thats just how its gonna be. We’ll likely miss the playoffs again and the year after that we bring the kids up.

Unfortunately Yzermans FA signings have been abysmal and he isnt going to trade assets away when 5/6 of those players only have 1 year left.

  11. All those free agents are too good. Is there any mid players we can sign for 5 years instead?

  12. I think we’re riding with Mrazek and Talbot for a while still, as much as I’d love to see some Cossa action.

  13. 1. I imagine all 4 are being let go.

    2. Not sure what we’ll do with Holl/Gus, but I’m hoping we buy out Tarasenko and trade Berggren. Mrazek isn’t going anywhere.

    3. Seems like a layup. Kaner is a great fit and I doubt we let AlJo or Soda leave after establishing themselves in the NHL. I don’t think we go after Tavares. He’d be great center depth but I doubt a potential 40 goal scorer would have any interest coming on to be a 3C.

    4. Marner is a pipe dream, but I’d be much more hopeful/realistic on Ehlers or Boeser. Would help a ton. I fucking hate Bennett but he’d be some much needed grit. Reluctantly so would Marchand for the right price. I don’t think any of those 2nd pairing D come here but any of them would be quite nice.

    5. I could see each of them coming in. Cossa might stay in GR for more reps because he’d probably be the #3 unless he outplays Talbot or Mrazek in camp but if the past 2 years are anything to go by we like having 3 in the NHL.

    6. I don’t *think* we offer sheet anyone as it doesn’t seem like Stevey’s style, but could you imagine adding Dobson, L. Hughes, or Bouchard to our defensive ranks? I know Bouch wouldn’t be great defensively but based on how much we missed Ghost this year it would help a TON.

  14. i hope they’re right and lyon gets a payday and some term someplace. deserves it.

  15. None of this really looks promising. I don’t think any of the bigger free agents are going to sign here and the others like ekblad and Bennett I worry are going to sign large contracts that they will never be able to live up to. This off-season is prime for a repeat of 2016. To many teams hoping to improve with a rising cap is going to create a bidding war that ends up with a lot of regrets.

  16. I think Sam Bennett is exactly what the offense desperately needs; some aggression/toughness and winning mentality.

  17. The pessimist in me says we’re not getting anybody cool tbh

Also no chance Cossas up next year

  18. Top 4 LHD is the number one for FA/trade. I would rather keep any other cap space for the deadline or 26’ FA’s. Although, if a top 6 winger is available or we can trade for one I would be open minded to it. But would not want to spend any more than Larkin’s AAV for one.

  19. Re-signing Patrick and playing him in our top 6 again will just ensure our ES metrics will continue to be dogshit. Again.

  20. Am I missing something- what’s Bergs done to deserve this opinion? I’d hate to see him play for any other team- he also carries many intangibles and has picked up the slack from many others who have been disappointing. If we have an actual stable team, he’s a great fit.

  21. We’ll see this year if Cossa will be ready for next year. Not sold on it yet.. I wouldn’t be upset with keeping Motte for a milli and keep him in a rotating 4th line position

  22. Kane is no longer a 2nd line player, 3rd line 1st PP minutes. He has shown all season he cant compete 5v5 with other teams 2nd lines 2nd pair and if resigned would be more productive as a 3rd line wing goong against softer match ups.

Ed is going to be the anchor next year for the 2nd pair, we need a top pair lefty to play with Mo and a Right side 2nd pair to play with Ed, then slot Chariot with AlJo on the 3rd with Gustaven the 7th (hopong Holl bought out).

Pionk or Prov would be my first choices to help on D, Boesser and Valardi choices up front. No Marchand, and afraid Bennett will be to rich and to long for Detroit.

I think a 3rd line of Compher/Danielson/Kane could be pretty productive for us next year.

    Razer/ Kasper/UFA
    Line above
    Ras/Copp/Soda

However it ends up, going to be an interesting summer. Would not mind seeing Steve take a shot at an offer sheet or 2, and should be a lot of movement on the roster come training camp
