  1. According to elite prospects – “Smith’s an overpowering physical presence and a fluid skater. A deep, clean stride and powerful crossover close distance on opponents fast. His defensive skating ” knees bent, chest up, and c-cuts and heel pushes over crossovers ” steadily guides opponents into the boards, right into a heavy shoulder.”

  2. 6’5 225lb 20 year old 0.5pt per game Dman who’s skating is listed as a strength.

Edit – Good ol’Ontario boy who fights as well.

    Gimme gimme gimme

  3. That’s amazing, congratulations Blake. Welcome to the leafs, you’ll be a great attribute.

  4. In a few years 6’3 will be too small for our D core with how Brad is building it lol

  5. Another big beefy meaty D that Brad loves to bring aboard. I wonder who this guy is supposed to replace in the coming years.

  6. I’ve never heard of this kid before now, but I’m suddenly positive he’s superior to his comparables in every way.

  7. I watched him play in the OHL against my hometown Rangers. He’s a good skater and can defend well, doesn’t take many penalties and actually has solid offensive play. I think this is a steal for us.

  8. Gonna drop [this link](https://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/maple-leafs-sign-blake-smith-to-elc/) here, it’s a basic news post but the guy included a video highlight package that’s 4+ minutes long. Gives a better idea of what he’s actually like.

And honestly, I don’t hate rolling the dice on a 6’5″ defenseman who can skate like that. Especially when it doesn’t require a trade or a draft pick, it’s just a bit of money and a contract slot. They’re not drafting many guys anymore so why the hell not.

  9. we have like zero prospects so I dont mind Tre going on a shopping spree to see if we can find a gem

  10. Seeing how Toronto lacks picks in the next upcoming drafts it’s good that Brad is trying to replenish some of their prospect pool with undrafted players and College free agents.

Still hoping the Leafs sign Brandon Lisowsky from the WHL who’s had good numbers in Junior.

  11. Brad Treliving really does love big defenseman. Webber is 6’7, Danford is 6’2, and this guy is 6’3. Even for the pro defenseman they’ve signed Tanev is 6’3 and Ekman-Larsson is 6’2.
