Did you think Caps Radio’s John Walton did well in subbing for Joe Beninati on the Monumental+ telecast of last night’s game? (I watched the ESPN telecast on Disney+, having turned off Mounumental+ after March.)

  1. Yeah I mean he had chemistry with Locker and the play calling was good. Honestly felt like he’d been doing it for months instead of just this once. Love Joe B and hope he gets better though!

  2. He did great! John’s calls especially on the radio are just as iconic as Joe B’s.

  3. Walton is most likely the heir apparent when Joe and Locker hang them up, so we better get used to it!

  4. Walton was excellent. I enjoyed spending three hours with him last night and would be happy to do so again… but I still prefer Joe B.

  5. Walton’s great, no issue at all. Caps are blessed to have Joe B, Locker and Walton.

  6. Locker and Walton have a good chemistry, not the same as with Joe B.

Kinda like your dad backing out of a fishing trip and being replaced with your favorite uncle. You still have a great time, just a little different.

  7. So we have Joe B on TV and John Walton on the radio. I don’t think there is a team in all of sports with a better broadcasting configuration than the Washington Capitals.

  8. I knew he was going to be great, he’s done games for the late NBCSN plus the Olympic tournament.

  9. I think Walton did great, and he’s great on the radio. My only critique is his call has a bit less poise compared to a tv vet like Joe B., which isn’t noticeable on the radio, but apparent when you’re watching the play live. I’m sure it’s just a matter of adjustment and experience with live tv. He’s great at what he does!
