[Schultz] Sources: Syracuse QB Kyle McCord is visiting the Steelers today and the Giants tomorrow. McCord, who led the nation in passing last season, has acquitted himself well throughout the draft process with a series of good interviews and impressive on-the-board work.

  1. McCord was the main QB that was catching my eye as a potential day 3 pick, but it seems like some scouts think he may find himself as a day 2 pick. From Schultz:

    >Several teams I’ve spoken with say he’s one of the more undervalued players in the entire draft — highlighting his prototypical NFL size, winning pedigree (see 21-point comeback vs Miami) and capacity to read coverage.

I’m good with using a 4th on him just as a lottery ticket QB, but I could be swayed on using a 3rd as well if you think you can still get a good RB in the 4th.

  2. Wouldn’t be a terrible later round pick, there are obviously guys I would like them to take over him but taking him anywhere from the 4th Rd to the 7th Rd wouldn’t be all that bad.

  3. The Pitt game was an outlier, and he didn’t have 1st round skill positions around him last year. I think a 4th round QB lotto pick is fine if they don’t want Will Howard

  4. I’m an Ohio State alum so feel free to call me biased but I want no parts of McCord on the Steelers. You want a QB with a short term memory for mistakes. When McCord messes up he spirals – the game against Pitt this past year was a good example. Doesn’t have great arm strength and isn’t mobile. I think he’ll be Nathan Peterman in the NFL. With a day 3 pick sure, but I feel like he’s going higher than that.

  5. Think he is the ideal backup QB.

Played with a lot of anticipation in his 2024 Syracuse tape. That suggests decent understanding of what he was seeing. Consistent mechanics. Strong base. Minimum arm strength and tendency to try to fit throws late into tight windows can get him into trouble. Not really one that can make plays with his legs.

Compared him to a Chase Daniels or Charlie Batch type.

That Pitt game was the worst, and one of the first I watched of him. Took me awhile to get back to other tape after that very poor performance.

The improvements Syracuse passing offense made YoY with McCord vs 2023 suggests he has talent. Taking +200 avg. yds/gm, +5% completion percentage & +1.3 Pass TDs/gm over the 2023 average. They also went from 6 wins to 10 wins.

  6. McCord reminds of Mason in the sense that he’s an absolute statue in the pocket. Don’t really see him being more than a solid backup in the league personally.

  7. he’d be a solid day 3 option to hold down a backup spot. wouldn’t be interested in spending anything more than that on him

  8. Noooo

Dude was garbage in ohio against better teams, then still struggled sometimes in Syracuse
