Frenkie de Jong didn’t want to talk about the possibility of signing a new contract after Barcelona’s clash with Dortmund on Tuesday.

There’s been talk that De Jong has now decided he wants to stay at the club and has instructed his agent to press ahead with negotiations and find an agreement.

The question was put to the Dutchman after the game, but he said this is not the time to be thinking about the future.

“We’re in the most decisive phase of the season… so full focus on the pitch,” he told reporters.

“After that, we’ll see about my future. I’m happy to play and live in Barcelona.”

De Jong’s future has often been in the headlines over the last few seasons, but he’s managed to shrug off an ankle injury and impress in recent months for Hansi Flick’s side.

The current thinking is that he will extend until 2029, with Barca not wanting any players to head into the new campaign with only a year left on their existing deals.
