Sounds like a first baseman to me!
Tony Mazz was right!!! lifetime DH
I blame the MLB.com callup article.
Ehhh. Lets maybe not push our top prospect through a possible shoulder injury? Like weeks before his potential debut?
Situations like this are a reason I didn’t want Devers or anyone as a full-time DH. I just conceptually hate having a single full-time DH on a 2025 roster with this much positional flexibility. Every player could use some regular time off from the field – but the team could still use his bat in the lineup. Heck Devers is an example last year – he hurt his shoulder diving for a ball last season.
I’m not saying Devers needs to be the full-time third baseman but he could easily play 30-50 games in the field to keep himself in fielding shape (in case Bregman leaves after this year and they need Raffy back next year), and to help keep guys like Bregman/Casas/whoever a little healthier and fresher.
And on top of that spending $47M on two full-time LHH DHs is just absolute dogshit team-building and use of salary space, which is the Red Sox situation through 2027. They could get similar production out of the DH position for like under $20M per year. But instead they’ve allocated ~20% of their budget to two different LHH DHs.
