MSL yesterday: “I’m learning. I learned a lot this year. At different times for different reasons. I learned a lot the last four games. I think it’s something I need to go through as a coach as well.”

  2. This is how you get out of recycling old coaches over and over.

Marty’s development is a huge part of the rebuild too.

  3. I feel like our guys will go through a wall for Marty. He’s been great for us and our younger players.

  4. That is the future of hockey coaches: constantly learning and solving every player’s weaknesses.

  5. Yup, let’s not forget that Marty is also part of the rebuild and could be considered a ‘kid’ as far as coaches go. It’s still normal for him to make mistakes and he will have some off nights just like any young player in the team. He doesn’t have much experience but he has knowledge, a will to learn, and a ton of heart. They’ll go far as a team!

  6. This is a big moment for Marty. He’s shown us from the very start how incredible he is as a development coach. Players love him and they seem to find a love for the game playing for him. Playoffs however are a bit of a chess match, and Marty has shown not to be the greatest at adapting to the other team. If he wants a long tenure he needs to show that he can take his team to another level when it is the most crucial.

  7. This is so great to hear. One of the best coaches we’ve ever had. From what we’ve heard from the players, they’d agree. My faith in him is completely restored.

  8. I’m such a huge Marty supporter. He’s the right man for the job. He’s humble enough to know what he doesn’t know, smart enough to learn quickly, and has the respect of his squad. He’ll get us a cup someday, just watch and enjoy.

  9. Dude came here from Pee-wee hockey. Management shouldn’t even consider a change for another 2 seasons.

  10. For all the shit I gave him at the start of the season, I have to remember that he’s only coached peewee hockey. Making the jump to the NHL is tough for coaches coming from the AHL so I can’t imagine what it’s been like for him. If I could, I would apologize to him in person.

  11. Martin has over achieved by every metric… the team grew, the team won more than they lost, and I think free agents and draft picks will want to be in Montreal. Great job Coach, keep it up!

  12. Remember in October and early November after every loss people wanted him fired because “we aren’t seeing any progress”

  13. People were actually calling him to be fired for not putting Demidov in the shootout a few days ago. NHL coach discourse can be exhausted

  14. Still believe Savard should be replaced by Xhekaj. He also underutilize timeouts at end of games or when the game is getting out of hand. Overall ok because the Habs made the playoffs. Let’s see in the playoffs, coaching can be important for the little things, ex. coach challenge, timeouts, adjustments in game when a player is not playing well (injury usually), focus of medua pressure on coach to give some room for the players, etc.
