Fuckin oof man
Terrible. See you on Tuesday at 6pm.
Feeling like the entire series is over already. Dillon out, Glass out, Luke in but visibly injured. Siegs and Jack not around to bail us out, and the grand plan Keefe prepared this team to execute demolished in 40 minutes. Hoping to not get swept but idk if that’s even possible atp
I did not watch that game so much as I endured it. I’m torn between “Please don’t get swept” and “Please make the pain stop.” You gotta know the Canes will be targeting Luke’s shoulder. Ironically I was screaming FFS HIT SOMEBODY right before Markstrom did the thing. So maybe it’s my fault. Sorry folks.
Nerves. Let’s just hope to god that was just first game nerves. I don’t know what else to say besides that. See you all Tuesday.
Not saying the series is over but I will be very interested to see what is said in post season interviews. It is nearly unfathomable to me how this team went from playing how they were in December to what we have seen since then. Our offense has been an issue nearly all year (we lost several games during the stretch of 20 or less shots given up) but the defense and team play becoming so disjointed makes me think something deeper is going on here. Don’t think Keefe is a bad coach but this looks like a team that has nearly given up on their coach these last few months.
Rod brindamour sent a superstar packing cause he saw it wasn’t working I wonder if the devils organization has the guts to do that in off-season or next year even if it isn’t a superstar just seeing something off
I saw one more game of hockey than I saw last season. Take that as a win. I have more to see and 2 more to attend , I have hope.
For all the people shitting on Fitz right now, take a step back and look objectively at the moves. Two years ago we were a goalie away from being a Cup contender. He went out and got Markstrom, a Vezina finalist, and of the pieces he gave up, only Sharangovich would be a net positive on this team. You have to give something good up to get something good. Zetterlund and Mukhamadullin are nowhere close to providing the value for this team that Timo does. Graves went almost the entire season without a point in Pittsburgh and Severson was a healthy scratch in Columbus, Fitz was right to let them go. Cotter, Noesen, Dillon, and Kovacevic were great hockey adds and Pesce was a no brainer (not to mention Holtz not doing anything in Vegas this year)This team is objectively much better and more built for the playoff than the team that beat the Rangers two years ago. Fitz’s only whiff so far is the Palat deal, and even that can be fixed. Stop complaining about management, these players need to step up and play to their potential when it matters, and I remain optimistic they can do that.
Mfs here were hyping up “playoff Palat” as if the 6 million dollar liability was somehow going to turn his engines on after lackadaisical play all year. Palat is more washed than my dishes and I just cleaned them
I know Canes took their foot off the gas a bit after 3-0 but the 3rd period gives me hope. We can play with these guys. Go take Game 2
My daughters first Devils playoff game we could “watch” together (she’s almost 2) and even through all cute moments of her saying “ockey”, this game was one I’d like to forget.
Always the damn Canes man. Just a flat performance and I think it was unfortunate Nico’s goal was late in the period or it could’ve given a momentum boost to at least hold the zone for a bit. Pretty pathetic how they couldn’t even get a shot or forecheck. Let’s not forget this team has had our number forever so it is what it is.
At least they’re less embarrassing than my other team, the Giants. I feel more guilty subjecting her to that franchise.
We’ll get back into it. This will go 6 games
Come up with a new game plan or this is gonna be a short series.
Maybe Casey should get called up…
Palat needs to go. Haula also
Why are we saying we played a good third? The Canes turtled down and iced the puck knowing we wouldn’t be able to do anything in their zone. The focus should be on why the team failed to get anything going in the first 2 periods
The Devils have no depth. A few injuries and the whole team falls apart.
This team hasn’t been the same since Christmas break
I’m still optimistic bc I have unwaverable belief and loyalty in this team. But what I must say is the injuries hurt most tonight. Shitty play sucked but man on a human level I just hope. Glass Dillon and Luke are ok. LGD. We’re not out of it until we’re out of it.
There’s no way palat can be on this team by the start of next season
I’m worried that the Dillon injury has shades of Bryce and his issues post injury
Woof.
Let’s win the next one. This sub was dooming way harder after we went down 2-0 to the Rags 2 years ago
Convincing Fitz that playoff Palat was real is the greatest trick the devil (Palats agent) ever pulled.
I missed most of the game. Towards the end Luke went off the ice holding his shoulder I think? Is he okay?
Series is far from over, but man, the Devils need to find a way to get faster in the offseason. Everyone was clamoring for more size and grit last year and this is the result, getting outskated while the shortest guy in the NHL scores twice on them.
The ESPN crew pointed out how the Devils flipping the puck up in the air wasn’t working. I also noticed the Canes defenders were stepping up at the center red line to slow down the Devils in the neutral zone. Seems like the team should go east-to-west a bit more between the blue line to open up the Canes’ defense. Either way, here’s to a better Game 2.
So Dillon, Hughes, and Glass all left the game injured at some point, but Hughes and Dillon are gonna try to tough it out for game 2. Glass is questionable. And the canes almost doubled our shot total. I knew game one was gonna be rough but it couldn’t have gone much worse than this
Well at least Ottawa is making us look slightly better with their game one performance against Toronto. Misery loves company lol
Just not enough firepower, plus a few guys got injured. Markstrom is going to have to steal a game.
There’s little to no correlation to this metaphor man, sorry. The problems stem further, outside of not winning 1 game in a series, that’s my point in getting at here. I get your sentiment in us fans not giving up hope on this team but it’s hard not to be at least a bit doom with how this roster was put together and the results we’ve seen for an extended period of time now. Today’s game was nothing new to what we have seen in the regular season.
We haven’t won a Game 1 since Florida in 2012 but we’ve won 3 out of 6 of the series we lost the Game 1s in. ESPN didn’t feel the need to mention that.
