  1. I was thinking about Easton Lucas this morning and I remembered that most starting pitchers go through a period at the start of their careers where they get beaten up by major league hitters. It’s a period of apprenticeship that cannot be accomplished in the minors, as minor-league hitters aren’t good enough.

Going through the Jays’ current rotation:

    – Kevin Gausman spent six or seven years as a so-so at best starter before finding himself. At the age of 28, Gausman had a 6.19 ERA in 16 starts for Atlanta.

    – Chris Bassitt spent all of his age-28 season in the minors and didn’t really start putting it together until he was 30.

    – José Berríos had an 8.02 ERA in 14 starts as a 22-year-old in 2016.

    – Bowden Francis started figuring it out in 2023, when he was 27. As a 26-year-old, he had a 6.59 ERA in Buffalo.

    – Even Max Scherzer, one of the game’s greatest pitchers, had a 4.43 ERA (93 ERA+) in 2011. He won 15 games that year, but he was generously supported: the Tigers scored eight or more runs in nine of his starts and six runs in four other starts.

Given that Lucas looked poised and professional in his two good starts, it’s obvious that he has a lot of potential. The Jays might very well give him as long a leash as they are giving Yuriel Rodríguez. And it’s not as if they have better options available.

  2. andres, roden, and wagner need to start hitting again. We’re not going anywhere if we don’t get production from the likes of them

  3. The Jays lack of power concerns me. We’re seeing the result of that in the past two games – it’s really hard to string hits together against solid pitching.

If the Jays are gonna compete, they have to hit for more power. Doesn’t even need to be homers necessarily, but less singles and more doubles?

Also – I hope Anthony picks it up soon

  4. Here’s hoping our Wizard of Gaus and the bats deliver us a win today, keeping the Stros below .500

  5. I am ready for Jose Berríos’ next start!! My beads arrived and I made my necklace!

I didn’t want to make an exact replica, I wanted to use light blue too.
