Was Sunday embarrassing? Yes.
Are 2 of our 3 best defenders hurt? Yep.
Did we need a lottery pick if we would’ve lost to Dallas? It would’ve been a decent asset but we know Klein would’ve kept the pick or traded down for multiple 2nds.
Is it good “experience” for our players? Maybe.

My hope is that our guys hit their peaks at the same time every NBA star peaks: 27. So blowing it up now makes NO sense.

A playoff sweep > than a 22-60 season.

  1. Agreed on all accounts. I always assume people saying blow it up are newer fans or just don’t understand how bad that could be for a franchise like Memphis. We have been SO lucky to be as relevant as we have.

  2. that season was injury plagued and is how we got Jaren what are we talking about here.

if anything it’s comparable to last year except we tanked it properly

  3. Those bad years come for everyone anyways. If anything it’s better to get into those bad years on our own terms with assets accumulated (like OKC did) then it is to wait too long and wind up being forced into those bad years starting from scratch.

This example was tough because we fell into being ass and we were deprived of assets because we held on too long. But at least with GnG it was somewhat worth it because they went out with a swing every year. This team is a collection of frontrunners who are now embarrassing themselves for the 2nd time in 3 seasons.

  4. Say it louder for those in the back! So sick of “trade Ja” “trade JJJ” no, “trade bane” it’s bs. I defended Ja abt a month ago and almost predicted his stat line exactly upon his return. We have legitimate future superstars, all stars, and great role players. The future is bright.

P.S. this skid only shows how valuable Wells is. The kid is easily ROTY but he won’t win it. He made Smart trade-able. He is our best perimeter defender, he shoots the 3 well, he is smart, and he will be the next big piece within 1-3 years that we learn to love.

  5. As an outsider to me it feels like you guys need some tweaks rather than completely blowing it up, maybe trading one of JJJ or bane but no chance all 3 are gone,I mean you were the 2 seed like a month and a half ago, injuries and a coach firing derailed this season

  6. People think it’s time to blow up the big 3?

The entire roster is potential trade bait except those 3 in my opinion.

  7. To be clear: I don’t want all 3 gone. But I think if you’re a Memphis fan and you’re still wanting to keep all 3 of them in hopes that it will improve, you’re not being honest with yourself.

If I approached you in December and told you “All 3 of Ja, Bane, and JJJ will be healthy to end the season and the start of playoffs and Zach Edey will start showing real production” you’d think we were a 2-3 seed and dark horse pick for the Finals. Instead we had to literally scrape into the playoffs and got absolutely slaughtered by the 1 seed and are looking like we’re getting swept.

The core has had multiple playoff experiences together and is healthy enough to not get totally dismantled by a team we all thought was a couple years behind us a few seasons ago. At this point, what is giving you hope that this is some anomaly? None of our core players are bad by any means but it’s becoming extremely obvious it’s not working. They need to shake things up and see how good of a haul they can get.

  8. Can we call the Kings and give them Santi for Jake back? Love Santi but I’m missing Big Slaw 😭

  9. No way in hell should this team got whooped by 50 like they did yesterday. Not with how much money they are getting. Their arrogance and the way they was talking shit?
Fine in the West my ass. STFU and win!!
Yesterday was not an embarrassment. It was humiliation.

  10. We’re not trading the big 3, Edey, or Jalen Wells.

Pippen is likely not going anywhere either

Pretty much everyone else is on the trade table if you ask me

  11. Some of these fans don’t know the true pain of the late 2000s before Grit N Grind Grizzlies. The Hasheem Thabeet Grizzlies. When we didn’t know if wanted Kyle Lowry or Mike Conley Grizzlies. Fat Marc Grizzlies. $20 gets you a 2 tickets, hot dog, drink and you will get moved from the terrace to the lower bowl by the midway of the 3rd quarter grizzlies!

  12. Don’t need to tear it down and rebuild. But, a live-in renovation is in order. Make some moves with these picks and the end of the bench. Hire a coach that will get buy in and be active and listen to offers in the off-season. You never know what may get offered, as there are GMs even dumber than Nico Harrison out there.

Can we upgrade the medical staff too?

  13. I wouldn’t trade Ja, Jaren or Bane. Just add more good pieces around them.

It’s also time to try Jaren at the 3.

Hell, he’s been secretly playing that position anyway. Make it official. Put another legit big at the 4 (Bagley/Huff) and let Jaren do what he does best.

  14. I go to 2 or 3 games a year. Maybe 5 or so if we are rolling.

I guess season ticket holders would have a say.

Most “fans” don’t go to tons of games every year.

I will probably try to get to 3-5 games per season — no matter what.

I have Fan Duel. I can see myself keeping that.

This team looks like it peaked, or it looks like the ceiling isn’t all that high.

Doubt many fans are interested in seeking the “same old thing” the next few seasons.

It would be really cool if we actually WON something in this town. I would accept 2 or 3 down years — followed by a steady (fast?) rebuild.

I am about to mentally check out on this team. And, I can’t be the only one.

  15. That was the Lance Stephenson season right? He was pretty aaight for us.

  16. We just need better role players and a HC with playoff experience. Between experience, effort and skill, I believe lack of experience is our biggest weakness.

  17. The record of that 17/18 team is also proof that growth is not linear and just based on age. Sometimes teams peak when they are young because the vibes and circumstances just don’t work out. Currently Im scared we are going to hold on to our big 3 till we get forced into a Damian Lillard cj McCollum Portland situation and we trade away the boys at 30 or 31 with about 2 good post season runs to show for it and no finals appearances and we get 60% of the vaule they once had in their mid 20s.
