I mean didn’t Chris Haynes also say Trae wanted out like this season? Could be tripping. I just don’t trust sports media anyways. Trae himself seems locked in and the local media guys closer to the team seem to agree.

We finished 2 games UNDER .500 with essentially our 2nd best player injured the rest of the season.
From that:
-OO is finally evolving
-Dyson will work on his handling skills and shooting
-Gueye and Vit could become solid
-Caris can stay one more season
The pieces *are* here. I do think Mike Malone type offense would be better suited but there’s a reason Denver is doing seemingly ok w/o him( helps when you have an unstoppable force, and role players who thrive in what they do)
Key acquisitions should be either a capable big man( Naz Reid would be ideal, but with each passing game his tag goes up)
Actual backup pg, who is capable of handling the ball when Young is out along with relieving some of Daniels pg duties.
*We did ok. DON’T mess things up now. We’re crawling, we’ll begin walking next season and by mid season, we’ll be sprinting by the end of the year!( *Health and correct FA signings coming)
Are we ready for the Zion to Trae train? I just can’t see how this works with Zion next to OO. JJ’s defense next to OO is what makes our frontcourt special, Zion next to OO doesn’t solve this as Zion isn’t as good as JJ on defense. Unless we are picking up a 7ft guy in FA, we would just hope we can score more points than the other team.
At the very least, Trae’s willingness to help a retooling team will help with his ability to get paid and/or traded.
Trae was smart to make the changes to set himself up for better situation and get paid more.
Smart move for him and will help the Hawks if they keep or trade him.

There’s a lot of Trae haters on this sub. I’m guessing they weren’t watching these hawks the past 20+ years where this team couldn’t attract top free agents no matter how much cap space they had. This isn’t up for debate, Trae young is the BEST player this team will get outside of the draft. If you went him gone, you’re absolutely batshit crazy.
What is the process? Is it to continue what the Hawks have been doing ever since they got Trae Young? That is to field a mediocre team around him.
Trae presumably wouldn’t accept the Hawks trying to trade JJ or Dyson for draft picks.
So the question remains that if the process remains, then what will actually change? How would the Hawks meaningfully improve?
People seem to want the Hawks to improve by trading for a star such as Giannis which would be a failure or continuing the same old same old which has made the Hawks a .500 team. The Hawks have to try something different even if that something different would carry some risk.
If Trae isn’t down with making a .500 team worse in the short term for possible long term gain then he wouldn’t be down with what the process should be. The Hawks could do a minor rebuild or they could do a major one but they have to do something different. They have to do something that might give them upward mobility. If they don’t then we can have fun in purgatory constantly treading water.
