Nothing about what he did last season is comprehensible. It’s so ridiculous, people don’t really appreciate what he did. When you hear Michael Kay say on no planet is Ohtani as good as Judge, as he looks only at batting stats like OPS, it’s just one example.
Baseball analytic geeks hate stolen bases due to the risk, so they devalue them significantly. But not only did Ohtani steal 59 bases, he damn near never got caught. It was the best success rate in history.
All while hitting 50 plus home runs and earning a WAR near 10 as a freaking DH only!!! It’s not possible.
Not only did he reach 40-40 the fastest, but he did it in 21 fewer games than the previous record!
Los Angeles Angels legend Shohei Ohtani ⚾️
We are watching the greatest player in MLB history
Well there were rule changes that gave him advantages. Like bigger bases and a limit on pick off attempts.
He also only had 16 stolen bases by game #85. That’s when mookie got injured and they moved Ohtani to bat lead off. His stolen base pace after that point was insane, like 90+ stolen bases over a full 162 game season.

54/54 is devalued
Yeah, half that list should not count, making it even more impressive… but 21 games earlier than the next clean guy… simply on another planet!
A pitcher should not be able to hit baseball this well and run this fast to steal a base.
I’m so happy we get to witness him on his prime, peak powers
