  1. Not sure if other MLB players do this, but it is common in Japan. The NPB players even bow to the umpires.

  2. I really enjoy when he does this. He’s humble, talented, classy, and sets a good example for other players.

  3. “Hello to you, good day. Now I’m gonna crack that first pitch of yours 450 feet. Mad love though.”

  4. I remember early in last season Orel cracked a joke, saying it takes Shohei an hour and a half to get his first at bat as he needs to greet every single person in the stadium.

  5. In almost every conceivable way he makes almost every other player in the major leagues look like a novice.

  6. The ⚾ King acts as King should.

Excited for the matchup of Imanaga & Ohtani that is incoming.

  7. I love when Vogt’s all, “Huh? Oh!”

It’s one of the little things you have to learn during your first season as a manager.

  8. I think our FO is really good at seeking out the nice guys because they understand how important it is to chemistry (esp since the Bauer/Urias stuff). Like of course Sho is incredible and one of a kind, but him being a genuine person just added fuel to the fire for us

  9. I know one thing: if I was Ohtani, I wouldn’t be as humble as he is. It’s this kind of attitude that made it possible for him to defer his contract and to lay the foundation of the team that we have today.

  10. It’s hard to be mad at Ohtani when he crushes a 445 ft homer to deep center after this.

  11. I absolutely love it when players show this level of respect.

It’s like “I acknowledge you as an opponent today and I will give it my all and show you my respect for you and this field with this homer.”

  12. Being humble and polite is the new market inefficiency. That is why the Dodgers are so focused on Japanese players and that market – a notoriously polite and respectful culture. I am only half-joking, I really do believe it.

  13. This is a ritual in Japan, but for Shohei to keep doing it here shows what a stand up guy he is. He could’ve easily stopped and nobody would’ve noticed/cared.
