Mathieu Olivier Has Been Around Pro Hockey Since Birth! 🏒 | Huntington One Lap with Jody Shelley

hi I’m Jody Shelly and this is one lap presented by Huntington today we got Matthew Olivier with us Matthew you ready to go yeah absolutely all right let’s take a lap buddy let’s do it so uh you grew up in a hockey family right your dad played hockey that’s right uh dad played 8 years pro I believe um overseas for two years in Germany and then six years in uh North America and you’re born where gooy Mississippi yeah um kind of an odd place but at the time there was a East Coast Hockey League uh Team there and that’s where my dad played so so what uh what did you take from your dad’s professional career that you take to the NHL well I was around it uh I was around it all the time uh from a young age I was always in a hockey locker room um you know being around Pro Hockey so uh you know I think I saw a lot of good habits I saw a lot of how it works you know in a locker room between the guys and uh obviously watching a lot of hockey and uh knowing what works what doesn’t um even just at a minor league level I think it translates well to the NHL so uh a lot of uh a lot of experience before even playing did you play any other sports growing up uh I was uh we we had a house in kind of the country s side so I was more of an outdoors kid uh but I did play uh some golf a little bit of Tenn I touched a little bit of everything but nothing uh nothing crazy competitive how about your career now that you’ve been in Columbus and and you’ve settled in how was your role developed with this team I think it’s been good uh I found I think I found a little bit of a niche here uh a role that fits uh me pretty good and I think I can provide the team something that um you know as as a group we need um you know I I just love everything about Columbus uh the city’s awesome uh my wife and family love it uh so hopefully many more years to come how about with all these young guys in the locker room how is it for you oh it’s good I don’t mind um the the guys are obviously they bring in they’re they’re super talented they’re creative uh there’s a little bit of a a different feel in terms of the older guys versus the younger guys the the way things work but everyone makes it work together and uh you know everyone gets along so that’s the main thing that is good and you say you like Columbus you got a young family here right yeah that’s right I got my two sons good for you are they getting into hockey yet or they too young yeah they’re asking me they the my youngest is about to start skating right now so uh we’re going to get on that pretty much next week how old is that uh he’s about to turn three oh wow that’s young yeah yeah but he wants he’s asking me to skate every day so we’re going to make it happen well good for you Matthew Olivier thanks for your time awesome thank you that was one lap presented by Huntington
