Seriously, changing the X?

  1. I mean I love calling my teams arena The X! But it doesn’t really matter because this happens all the time and is mostly just a ploy to get more money.

  2. maybe they’ll still sponsor the XCEL ENERGY POWER PLAYYYYY

i’ll never be able to call it anything but the X

  3. Meh it’s like camp snoopy. The older generation will only know it as the X and the younger kids will call it whatever generic corporate name it gets.

  4. It’ll be weird when it is called something different but as long as it isn’t something long or stupid I’m indifferent.

  5. That guy gots to relax a little bit. If the name does change, it’s not really a big deal. $$$$

  6. All I saw was “name change coming”. Majorly disappointed as Wild still the worst name in sports.

  7. Do people actually have a problem with arena name changes nowadays? I got it back when arenas and stadiums just had names for the buildings like the Met Center, Joe Louis Arena, Boston Garden, etc. but now they’re all just big advertisements for companies.

  8. Maybe we can convince Microsoft to buy the naming rights and call it Excel Center.

  9. Is this from the same source that said the Wild was rebranding to North Star colors?

  10. Oh no! Not “brand!” I hate that “brand” will stop being the name of the arena, and we’ll have to start calling it “different brand”.

Man I fucking love me some brands!

  11. Imagine getting emotionally attached to the corporate naming rights of your team’s arena. Also, I doubt the Wild have much to do with who pays for naming rights to the arena.

  12. I once tried to buy a coke… in the Pepsi Center.

    Not my best moment.

  13. If Xcel doesn’t want to renew contract there is not much Wild can do. It’s a business.

  14. Honestly, thank god. There is something that doesn’t seem quite right with a public utility subsidizing a for-profit sports venture. The real question is, will any of us see a reduction in our electric bill?

  15. Xcel energy gets about $250-400 out of me every month. They don’t need the name recognition, all of the ass blasting will happen either way.

  16. why do people get attached to corporate naming sponsors. I only care if the previous name was something meaningful like Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome
