  1. That’s the 1990 Stanley Cup Champion Oilers to you…

    We’ll cry about this later

  2. They didn’t have a lot of holes on the roster needing to be filled

  3. As bad as it was, it only slightly makes up for the Oilers good fortune in the early 80s.

Not only did they get to keep Gretzky when joining the NHL (instead of him entering the draft for Montreal to pick with 1oa), but they had some of the most insane draft success in the next three years.

    1979 – Mark Messier 48th, Glenn Anderson 69th

    1980 – Paul Coffey 6th, Jari Kurri 69th, Andy Moog 132nd.

    1981 – Grant Fuhr 8th, Steve Smith 111th

I would be curious if anyone has ever topped that run, considering how late some of the picks were.

  4. As a fan of the Czech Extraliga, funny to see they picked two legends in Richard Žemlička and Petr Kořínek. Both are near Hall of Famers back home 🙂

  5. That’s hilarious. Not as bad, but reminds me of the Sharks 1995 draft. Putting aside goalies, the only non-goalie to play any NHL games was 8th rounder Ryan Kraft, who got 7 games in *2002-2003*.

  6. This was the draft that Calgary picked Trevor Kidd over Martin Brodeur too.

Not a great draft for the Alberta teams in hindsight.
