Phillies vs. Braves Game Highlights (7/5/24) | MLB Highlights

matchup of heavyweights in the NL East on this Independence Day weekend tonight at truest Park will Atlanta send a shot across the bow against Philadelphia or will the lead grow to double digits by the end of the weekend Max freed meanwhile has been wonderful over the last five plus years the question is Health but the results sply are pretty good there’s only one pitcher with more wins since the start of 2019 that’s Garrett Cole it it’s pretty amazing Watching Max fre it’s all about the fast ball it has a natural cut to it throws a change up off of it so right-handers really have no chance and chop him up part of it has to do with the knuckle curve and his ability to spin it keeping the Philadelphia Phillies off of it the Lefty will go to work against the Lefty Bryson St three pitches three strikes St is retired that is a good morning good afternoon good night two balls and two strikes on Turner he’ll be followed by bone blew it by him swung on in and a fast ball 95 up and away and a good start for Max freed Reed against Alec B and the first pitch swung on hitting the air to right it’s pretty deep going back to VA at the wall he pulls up and it’s off the bricks bounds out into right center field Jared Kellick the center fielder will back it up that’s a home run in quite a few ballparks going the opposite way it hits high up off the wall and Alec B with his first double in the last 10 games Freeds 22 and it’s nubbed up the Third Base Line charging is Riley his throw in time to get castanos what a play Austin Riley made it look easy on the Run Braves coming to back Aaron Nola looking for his 100th career Big League win today take a look at Nola’s numbers on the season his 18th start 35th career start against the Braves that is the most of any starter against any one team since Nola’s debut there’s one two to Jared Kellick a swing and a Fly ball out towards left center field p and roas coming together hanging high for roas he makes the catch out in left center field how’s about in the air long enough for those two guys to play rock paper scissor to see who wanted to catch it all and two strikes on Azie and the pitch on the way from Nola swing and a miss boy what an awkward cut at a high fast ball and he’s been using that high fast ball quite a bit and riy Strikes Out Nola with a comfortable one two three inning Runners on the corners nobody out scor this game I’d pay attention to a push butt from roas in this scenario first and third here look and he’s going to go for it Olen has it brings it to the plate tag put down and the got marry field very well executed by Olen as well as darno not an easy play to make a good throw on that was a marvelous play by Matt Olen P staring down freed looking to put this one past his Bat put him away here in the second runners go 32 got him looking beautiful curve ball through the back door the Phillies are denied here on the top of the second so far Max fre has pretty much done what he normally does he’s used all of his pitches he’s just mixing match that’s how he does it two up two down a one to bone that kicks off the foot of Maxon goes into left field everything that bow touches here lately has come up roses for him well if it’s going to catch you anywhere the bottom of the foot’s probably a good spot inning continues for Nick castanos 01 swung on line to right that’s going to be down for a base hit oh scoot it on Dual makes a nice play to stop it and fire it quickly back in but B will still make it around to Third Base so edmundo Soo with Runners on the corners the philli have had base runners in every inning so far against freed and Fred wiggle out of another Jam hit him and now the bases are loaded first pitch to mfield on a ground ball off the mound Azie has got it steps on second and they get the force out of sosa and just about took Max with it he was turned into a pretzel trying to field it and the Phillies after getting that infield single from roas are set up once again they have had a runner in scoring position every inning so far seven hits now for the Phillies the 01 swung on ground ball hit to short Ria has it to second one on to First not in time and it bounds by Olen but St will stay at first base and he’ll take the RBI on the fielders Choice ground out and the Phillies have a one to nothing lead the problem is that alz was playing so far pole fortunately for the Phillies he couldn’t get off a really good turn at second base Max three runs allowed over his last 17 and a third Innings and a big part of that is keeping the ball in the ballpark that’ll be a challenge against this Bunch here’s Turner breaking ball hit deep left field going back is Eli white to the track at the wall he’s looking up it’s gone Trey Turner with a two-run home run straight away to left field it’s his sixth of the year his third Homer this week and the Phillies lead three nothing he’s a special hitter not a lot of guys have hit the curveball for Max freed only the second Homer to a righty this season on the curveball and only the second freed is allowed overall at home this year ainoa now has a three nothing lead to work with if you’re Lanta you’re like it’s okay three runs is nothing first bullet to Riley and he swings it a Fly ball to deep Center heading back Rojas that’s a home run a piercing shot over the center field wall and it’s a one-run ball game and Austin Riley continues his personal run of Terror against Aaron Nola anyone but you that’s kind of lightning bolt we’ve needed to see from this club arinola efficient Knight 67 pitches that’s into the mid darno is gone the W up and the two- two pitch swinging a miss sth k for Nola two out single keeps the inning going now here’s Eli white oh shatters his Bat and that Shard gets lodged in the ground just in front of Aaron Nola he and the bat boy having a laugh fabric of baseball it’s not just fan bases players coaches it’s umpires he sixth inning now here in Atlanta it’s a 3-2 ball game and a one out walk for stock homered his last time up one for three on the night swung on hit deep left field he got him again another multi-home run game for Trey Turner his second of the week and for the second straight at bat Turner with a two-run home run off of Max freed that one at 459 ft to left field seventh of the year and the Phillies have a 5-2 lead Max fre he knows he right right out of the hand he knows it most certainly the last inning for freed provided he can get one more out here he’s at 102 on the pitch count bounced back to the mound Max has got that one throws low to first but handled by Olen and that’ll end the inning a very dejected Max freed walks off the mound we go to the bottom of the sixth aie has now hit in eight straight hitting 321 over his last seven games hey a walk could be just fine base hit however you can get on ahead of Riley swung on and ripped to right get up high enough Chop House bound gone azy alz just clocked one into the Chop House there’s one run back 5 to three boy did he throw some batad on that sure did he is heating up man and the Braves are throwing the ball all over the place here in the top of the seventh inning and this is again a team that’s been struggling offensively defensively they’ve been pretty good and Johan Rojas will cross the plate another misc by the Braves and it’s 8 to3 Phillies a couple of base runners here in the eighth inning Zuna two for8 in his career versus Alvarado never homered against him 1-1 tag deep towards right field heading to the wall and is going to get out of here three-run Homer by Ozuna the opposite way we’ve got ourselves a ball game last side of baseball hardest out to get and The Last Hope for the Braves is Eli Whit strike three call Aaron Nola picks up his 100th career Major League win Philadelphia takes it 86

  1. Frustrating loss for sure. First off that strike 3 call to end the game was bad, could’ve brought the potential tying run to the plate with Kelenic who is swinging well. But outside of that for one of the rare times this season the pitching collapsed in a few innings, offense started out really slow but ended up scoring late, however it was too late i guess. Either way i think many can agree it was a frustrating loss and especially in a crucial series like this. Schwellenbach on the mound tomorrow. #ForTheA

  2. Notes From the Game:

    – OUCH, FRIED. 6 ROUGH Innings, Allowing 5 Runs and 11 Hits, Walking 1 and Striking Out 4 on 103 Pitches. Fried Drops to 7-4 with an ERA of 3.18. Just Couldn't Locate the Breaking Pitches as the Game went on, and he got smacked around as a result.

    – Jesse Chavez Might've Knocked HIMSELF Out of the All-Star Selection with that Blunder of a 7th. YEETED a Throw to Conyers that led to 2 Runs Scoring, then Riley Losing one down the Left Field Line that led to a 3rd. His 8th was Solid though, so his ERA increased to 1.67.

+ I'll at least give Dylan Lee Credit for Pitching a Clean 9th to give us a Chance. He did allow 1 Hit, but he also Struck Out Former Brave Cristian Pache to clean the slate.

ROTATION TOTAL: 9 Innings, 8 Runs, 15 Hits, 1 Walk, 8 Strike Outs, 2 Home Runs Allowed.

Surprisingly, the Braves didn't leave much Baserunners on Base Tonight… But Despite Out-Homering the Phillies, 3-2, The Totals didn't line up for a Win.

+ AUSTIN 3:16 CONTINUES TO SMASH! 1-3 with a Two-Run Super Missile in the 4th, and a Walk in the 8th! Riley stands in with a .255 Average, an OPS of .773, and 11 Home Runs on the Season!

+ The OZ-MAN with a SOLID NIGHT! 3-4 with Two Singles and a Solo Super Missile to the Chop House! Albies holds onto a .263 Average, an OPS of .731, and 7 Homers on the Year!

+ THE BIG BEAR FOUND HIS BIG STICK! 1-4 with a Three-Run Super Missile to the Right-Center Field Seats! Ozuna Stands Firm with a .296 Average, .937 OPS, and 22 Home Runs on the Season!

    – OTHER NOTBALES: Matt Olson, Travis d'Arnaud, and Orlando Arcia were the Only Other Braves to get a Hit, while Austin Riley was the only Brave to earn a Walk. Adam Duvall, Eli White, and Jarred Kelenic went a Combined 0-12 with 5 Ks.

    – A TOUGH LOSS to take for the Braves, as it pushes us down to 10 Games Behind Philadelphia. However, the Offense DID show some signs of finding the Ignition. But with how Philly was able to TORCH us with their 'Limited' Offense… It's Clear Our Pitching is STILL LACKING SEVERELY, And Can't Carry the Offense Forever. The Situation Deteriorates with each Loss, and we can't continue to dwindle games like this.

    – The Situation gets EVEN WORSE: The Cardinals AND the Padres are now 1 1/2 Games Behind the Braves for the TOP SPOT IN THE WILD CARD, and the Giants & Diamondbacks are within 4 1/2 Games of the Braves for a Wild Card Slot in General. It's a Bad Dream that's slowly turning into a NIGHTMARE… One I fear we may not be able to wake up from.

    TOMORROW:

ROUND 2 OF 3 Between the Phillies and Braves will take place under the Evening Skies of Truist Park.

The Phillies, With an Opening Win in this Series, Show No Mercy, and Send their Current ACE, Ranger Suarez, to the Rubber. However, Suarez didn't fare as well in the Month of June, going 1-1 with an ERA of 3.48. His recent Start against the Fish was his worst start; Allowing 6 Runs on 10 Hits, Walking 2 and Striking Out None while being unable to finish the 5th.

However, with the Braves pushing Lopez to Sunday, It means we'll have to endure another start from SPENCER SCHWELLENBACH, Who's Had Two Straight Losses with the Same Song and Dance: Four Innings of Potential Promise, Undone by ONE HORRIFIC INNING. He's Allowed 8 Runs on 13 Hits in his last 10 Innings as a result… and Now he's being Tossed into the Fire against the Phillies.

Can SCHWELLENBACH show any kind of potential against what feels like a WRECKING CREW of a Phillies' Lineup?

Or will Suarez and the Phils' FLATTEN the Tone of SCHWELLENBACH and the Tomahawk Chop?

We're going to find out at 7:15 P.M. EDT EXCLUSIVELY ON FOX (National).

    SoundFX09, Signing Out.

  3. Damn can't win with 4 of our starters out? Don't say Acuna woulda changed this game. That inning yall were throwing the ball around like little league. Playoff braves in full action here. Atta boy!

  4. Fried and the defense loss us this game, our poor offense tried to give us a chance but it was not to be, even with their two best hitters out hurt the Phillies can still handle the Braves ( although with some self destruction from the Braves ) it's pitiful, I pull for the Braves too hard, I can't help it, I need to step back and take a mental health break from this, seriously.

  5. Great game for philly and atlanta, turner showing off why hes an all star, but they overall played good today. Braves offense looked good after the 4th inning but that 7th inning goof is what probably ruined their game. Overall good game and good rivalry, as a braves fan i hope they keep playing offensively how they did today, and give schwellenbach some run support. Go braves!🪓

  6. See, the umpire thinks he’s PART OF the show. He thinks people are there to see HIM. One of the biggest problems baseball has is the umps thinking they’re part of the game. They’re not. They’re just supposed to call it properly. They think they’re entertainers. They aren’t. Go away

  7. Impressive win while missing key guys, although Atlanta helped by kicking the ball around. Rojas should bunt at every AB, at least then he shouldn't hit into a double play. Pache and Merrifield seem lost at the plate, but we are still WINNING!
