2024 Flyers Development Camp Scrimmage: Team Briere vs. Team Jones

2024 Flyers Development Camp Scrimmage: Team Briere vs. Team Jones

good evening everyone and welcome to the Flyers Training Center here in Vorhees New Jersey just outside of Philadelphia it is the 2024 Philadelphia Flyers development camp and the final scrimmage about to take place here at Flyers Training Center glad to have you along with us this evening I’m Brian Smith along with Jason martiz and a wonderful crew here getting all this together uh this evening so we can bring you this final development Camp scrimmage it has been a interesting week of drills Jason they don’t do as much in this Camp as maybe they did 10 years ago but you still get a chance to see what some of these guys can do and some of have been really impressive I think it’s about everybody in their own way has been impressive but uh you know a lot of interesting stuff we’ve seen here so far this week yeah and it’s not an evaluation Camp no um that’s not tend it is the middle of the summer for these guys as well so they’re not completely Polished in in midseason form um but it is a good opportunity and I think where you can make a a kind of EV valuation is one year to the next and that’s not necessarily just the execution on the ice but that’s the work in the gym the work that happens off the ice and we’ve seen it and we did this game last year and some of the participants here in this game when we saw them last year at Media availabilities or around the rink or interviews um you saw the way you know their physical body was or the way they presented themselves and then a year later in some cases you see a very vast difference and some guys really putting in the work in the gym bigger you know getting stronger and more mature in their body their game and the way they are as a pro so uh it’s a real good kind of apples to apples comparison year to year that you know you can do as an organization and see where guys are yeah that year-to-year thing is really something that everybody looks at even before these guys are a part of this Camp it’s a lot of times it’s how you evaluate guys before you even draft them and we’ll talk a little bit more about some of these guys who are coming off really impressive uh year-to-year improvements either from their draft year to now or from their pre-draft year to this past year this Camp has everybody from the Flyers two two of the Flyers last two first round selections of course Matt bichkov is not here but Oliver Bon is here and Jet luchenko is here as well this year’s first round selection from there goes all the way down to some guys who are Camp invites uh guys that might be playing you know for them it may be a little may be a little bit of an evaluation Camp because we’ve seen a lot of guys you know not a lot I guess but a few guys come out of this Camp earns elves invitations back to the main camp and have turned them into contracts and J.R Avon’s in this lineup today he’s one of the guys that has done just that so it is an opportunity here for uh for some guys yeah you see some of the invites and they really kind of open your eyes a little bit you know you look at local kid here and and Jack Paige Westchester Rustin Alum that’s here as an invite and he’s actually not the first Westchester Rus and Alum that’s participated in a flyers development Camp were you the first no no I didn’t go there that back in my day I went to Westchester east east okay okay y y and actually I see his dad up there on the perch right now ready to watch this and uh you look at uh you know all the different invites and some of these guys have popped and this is an opportunity for them to you know kind of get on the radar and not all them are local guys so um some guys may get a chance to head to the ECHL or head to the AHL and really kind of begin the process of trying to make it to the greatest league in the world so we’ve got two squads here today it is a normal ordinary scrimmage of two five on five teams uh the uh orange team that you’ll see is going to be known as team Brier the white team that you’ll see is going to be known as team Jones so the new guys wasted no time in naming the teams after themselves it’s good to see some confidence there and so we’re going to have uh three 15minute periods essentially is what we’re going to do here the first two periods are going to be normal hockey third period what we’re planning on seeing is four on four about the first first half of that period and three on three for the second half and then we are going to be treated to a shootout at the end of it of undetermined length we’re gonna be surprised by that I think we’ll see how long that goes I think it probably depends on how long the game goes to be quite honest with you so well this is always a fun game to watch we’re in the middle of summer and it is hotter than than as can be gge just in here right now I tell you what this is the warmest I’ve ever been in this room yeah it’s unbelievable but we’re getting to watch some hockey we’re going to take a little bit of a break after this for Captain skates and rookie camp training camp but it it’s all on the horizon and what a great way to wrap it up this place is packed with flyer fans as well if you want to hear more about these guys especially you can uh check out Jason’s podcast throughout the rest of the summer Flyers daily it’s available on all podcast providers and the Flyers YouTube channel he’s been talking with a lot of these guys this week we’re going to bring you those interviews over the course of the rest of the summer and then of course once we get in the main training camp here in Philadelphia we’re going to have complete coverage of that as well so we are underway here in the Flyers development Camp scrimmage again team Brier wearing the orange team Jones wearing the white and white with the possession early on as Alex bump sends one into the slide here’s a quick shot from jet lenko already with his first scoring opportunity of the scrimmage he fired it just wide cyle trying to keep it up and the loose Puck out in front and it’s tipped home the first goal coming 31 seconds in in with this development Camp scrimmage it is Hunter McDonald good catch wait for him to turn around yeah Hunter McDonald with the first goal of the scrimmage and it’s an early one- nothing lead for team Jones a bit of a broken play there but uh right place right time for McDonald yeah McDonald not known as a goal scoring defenseman uh big body incredibly mean but he goes down low there gets a redirect puts by Carson bjis and keam Jones goes up one nothing Hunter McDonald turned Pro last year after his sophomore season at Northeastern he’s really grown out he was 64207 when the Flyers drafted him two years ago now he’s up to 220 and he’s going to be playing his first full season in Lehigh Valley come the fall yeah saw 11 games there last year and they are excited about him because he plays mean here’s Denver Barky up the left side Barky of course having one heck of a year with Oliver bon in London this past year as they went to the Memorial Cup Final Ethan Samson picking up a loose puck in the corner on the right side and Matthew Campbell’s got him tied up there for team Brier in the orange Jack Paige left point shot blocked to the corner and team Jones on that but it’s coughed up and team Brier will take possession breaking out for the first time in the contest they’ll dump it in and get a line change there is Jack Paige on the loose Puck a lot of us saw him running around here when he was about 10 years old and now he’s here in development Camp he’s playing at Northeastern these days he’ll dump it into that left Wing corner and he’ll get some fresh legs on Emil schard fires one just wide and a loose clck to the corner here is chopped at in that rightwing corner that’s Cody croll a camp invite for team Brier and they will now Outlet Shard laying on the pressure on that far wall Puck pop free and it’s picked up by the orange team Sam sedley there for team Brier drop it behind the net here’s Cody croll croll throwing it out in front hit es skape and now team white will move it out Sant suku seventh round pick last year with the possession along the near wall we are literally right over the boards on the near side so if we lose you there for a minute in the video along the near wall That’s why do the best we can here from otherwise a great perch up here at Vorhees looking close here’s parks with a shot that was blocked and KN to the corner good block by McDonald there Lee Parks a camp invite out of Fargo in the USHL Flyers seem to have found a source of some potential players out of Fargo they got a few guys in this camp that have come out of there at one point or another here’s McDonald moving it ahead up the rightwing side and it’s pushed in toward the net that one kicked Away by Carson beis we were remiss to not mention the goendale leave that to you Jason because I have no idea who that that is and then then he plays in the OHL and that is Matteo drobach so that is also a camp invite Matteo drobach and he’s uh he’s got some pretty good numbers uh he was playing in Branford in the OHL 284 and seven last year so Flyers have been all over the Ontario hockey leag got a lot of guys looking at jet lenko but they also saw a lot of other people while they were looking at him and obviously already had Oliver Bon and Denver Barky and you spot some other guys that can help out in these camps and flyers uh only had one goendale part of the system available for this Camp so they went out and grabbed a couple other guys to help with the load here yeah Arthur Smith from H Princeton really big 64 and we’ll get a look at him in this game as well for team Jones Alex bump sending it back out left Point Jack Paige with a shot on net almost deflected it did get through to beison who kicked it aside ow and mcglaughlin on that far wall he lost it bump moving into the slot one on Three had it knocked off his stick and it comes to the corner where it’s picked up and white tried to throw it out to the point but nobody was there so it goes all the way down I think we’re just gonna shift to white and orange how about you yeah partially because I can’t I keep forgetting which just team Brier and which is team Jones but we’ll acknowledge that uh every now and then when time allows Wyatt Wy moving it ahead up the right side and one of the Flyers picks from this past draft I have to look at the name because it’s a tough one hiky ruo Honan down the right side it’s going to roll off the tongue eventually but not today here’s Wyatt Wy going into the corner and he moves it out to Samson who got it out to the line Barky pushing it ahead he’s got a run there with J.R Avon but it was knocked away and now here comes Matthew Miller back in Miller rink wide pass knocked off his stick goes Taylor on that right side Barky is there jet lenko trying to push it up to him they are on a line together for this game and here comes lenko sashing his way through the neutral zone flips it down into the corner and Oliver Bon beat him to it those guys battled six times this year in the Ontario hockey league lenko with w and of course Bon and Barky with the London Knights on that far wall it’s Mark aapa Camp invite from the University of Michigan stapa looking for a return passard tied that up Austin Molen sends it up the far wall another one of this year’s Flyers picks it’s knocked out to Center where it’s picked up and sent back in for team orange you saw lenko and exactly what Bon talked about with him he’s a oneman breakout yep is he goes one on Three pumps it deep and then he gets in on the four check almost creates an opportunity for team wise well he can skate we are six minutes into our development Camp scrimmage here at bhe New Jersey Flyers closing out there development camp this evening it’s an early one- nothing lead for team white here’s a backhander in on Carson bearnson and he is able to get his arm over that one and get the whistle for the stoppage yeah good save by bearnson there on his right post able to squeeze that puck between his arm and his body makes the save still one- nothing team Jones um and Hunter McDonald back out there once again every shift he’s been out there he’s been noticeable made a good stretch pass on a break out scored the goal and also killed a couple of plays as well big body and a guy that has uh the Flyers management very excited a six round pick in 2022 100 McDonald he’s going to win this race to the puck as well there goes McDonald behind the net and Parks is going to chase him down there Spencer Gil tying up a man on the N wall he was the second round pick for the one of the second round picks for the Flyers this year as it’s cleared all the way down Gil 59th overall Flyers moved up 18 spots to get him to 51 correct uh 50 that was he was 59 they had 51 that was the compensatory pick for J O’Brien not signing um but uh that was Jack berglin but Noah Powell or rather excuse me uh Spencer Gill was 59 the Flyers they Ste back right they moved from 12 to 13 with Minnesota picked up an extra second round or third round pick and then they sent that third round pick along with their second to move up 18 spots and grab Spencer Gill so and you have the first round pick from Edington for next year’s threet yep some cooking there for uh for Danny Brier on that particular maneuver and Spencer Gill out of rusi in the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League here’s Kaplan moving to the net mcferson on the doorstep and that one was turned aside yeah Spencer Gill represents the maritime part of that name he comes from New Brunswick nice pass right side shot here’s a tip out in front it went just wide that was off the Stick of Ethan Samson who was one of the veterans in this camp for 2021 draft pick Cole Canal now down the right side flips it off the Miller gets it back one timer save made nice one by drebach on the doorstep and here comes team white the other way bump off to Ronan Jack paig puts it in front deflected up over the crossbar rebound thrown back in front but kual ran that down and here comes Cole Canal up the left wing Canal of course the son of Megan kuuba and Mike I give Megan more credit than Mike he was a baby when uh Mike Canal came here the first time I think he was one year old then uh whens came back he was 11 eventually they settled back at home in Grand Rapids and both Cole and his brother cam came up through the Fox Motors program just south of Grand Rapids playing a Notre Dame now he just finished his freshman year there and a pretty good one at that nine goals for Co Canal as a freshman for the Fighting Irish his brothers playing at Western Michigan cam Here Comes team orange breaking out at Center flip down the left side and it’ll be picked up by team white coming back out the other way good back pressure from Shard there Cil Shard a great story he uh made a comeback from hodin lymphoma this past spring he was uh he was diagnosed in February he missed two months of treatment came back and played the playoffs last year in the qmjhl and uh at this point is doing just fine so great story there for schard Here Comes Williams down the right side Williams over the line flips it ahead Boston Molen Molen goes crashing into the end boards and now it’s tied up in some skates there Taylor and mcferson in there for team orange Austin shernick one of the guys for team white and now it PS free a collision behind the net will come out to team white centering pass in front for shernick he could not get the shot away though and it’s moved ahead to center team White regrouping behind the that here comes ruonan off the bench but he’ll let Hunter McDonald move this ahead on the left side along the near wall underneath this Josh Z gresy another Camp invite he came from the Portland Winterhawks the Western Hockey League another place where the Flyers seem to have noticed a couple of guys playing with some folks that they’re there to track here is Devin Kap now down the right side in front and Fanning on the attempt there was Ryan remik another Camp invite coming out of the North American Hockey Le here’s miglin holding in he had a stick lifted at the last moment moved ahead to Center and it comes back from Camp rck a good job there to put himself in the right space to make it make himself an opposite on that little two-on-one play down low pass doesn’t convert but going to the right spot to make yourself an option is a big part of it he did exactly that on that play as team Mars now behind their own net getting a wholesale line change in there alexe Jen drawn out there now as well had a really good year in the queue with some big numbers there’s Alex bump wearing number 90 down there in that left wing corner and and again another guy that uh has had a pretty good start to his career post draft as Carson beis ties it up bump was headed to Vermont after the draft but they had a coaching change Todd Woodcraft was let go and so he decommitted he ended up at Western Michigan which of course we all know as the Harvard of the Midwest right uh as at least according to Keith Jones who has a statue there he had a real good year at Western Michigan to said he really enjoyed the program and he’s one of those guys that I was kind of referring to before he came back this year just looks bigger stronger and really did the work in the gym he’s a good athlete and a guy like that when he develops into more strength it’s just going to be a more dangerous hockey player Here Comes team orange through the neutral zone and now they’ll get set up Mato man had that one bounce off his skate and it’s flipped up by lenko through Center here’s bump low in the zone got a short angle shot away but missed it wide and now here comes Cole Canal down the left LNG Canal spins away from Gil before he goes to the ice fired off the glass and out where bump will pick it up two on two for team white is bump crosses the line hit his leg comes to Jack Williams fires one in on net and a save made by Carson beardson and Jack Williams is one of those intriguing guys so we were talking about him before he uh before we went on the air here he’s one of two former mosan Lumberjacks captains in this camp but that’s not why he’s intriguing H 36 points at nor Eastern as a sophomore and that’s another year-to-year jump he more than doubled his freshman year total of 17 points he’s third in scoring on a team that’s got eight players under NHL ties including Carter Southern in this Camp so he’s a guy the Flyers wanted to take a longer look at and are able to do so by inviting him to this Camp yeah Ian he’s more than a point perame player at nor Eastern 36 as you mentioned in 34 games huge jump for him but really where he’s kind of stuck out to me this week right is his ability to defend and defend guys on the rush is really strong in that area and you know when you score at some lower levels doesn’t mean you’re going to be a scorer at an NHL level so guys like that have to figure out how they’re if they’re going to be a you know a pro player what kind of pro player are they going to be and he’s a guy that’s willing to defend and does a good job at it we are coming up on two and a half minutes left to go in this first period of the fers development Camp scrimmage Brian Smith Jason Martz here with you along with our fantastic crew i’ like to welcome again everyone in trying to stay cool by watching some hockey here on this sweltering July day I like to welcome uh all the family m members out there of these guys as well I know we’ve got quite a few families tuning in to check this thing out and so we apologize in advance if we butcher your names some of these guys are a little unfamiliar to us but I think we’re good on most of them he we see Barky out there now you mentioned the season that he had for the London Knights he wasn’t good this year he was spectacular and just a great offensive year and he’s a guy really committed to put the strength small frame uh but he’s a guy that seems really committed to putting the strength on and putting himself in the right positions on the ice to maximize his talents really fun player to watch he was actually described as that by Dober hockey as a fun player yeah and that pretty much sums it up a third round pick of the Flyers last year looking like he might be a steal obviously he still has a lot of development to do but uh Flyers really liked what they saw in in year one and again those numbers for you 102 points fifth in OHL and scoring and then that’s ahead of guys like you know dalbor dorski 10th overall for Seattle last year um Callum Richie 27th overall last year Easton Cohen 28th overall last year outscoring all these first round picks here’s a shot from the point rebound put in and team white our team Jones takes a two nothing lead Josh zakreski a camp invite a Saskatoon Saskatchewan gets the goal there played in the WHL the for the Portland Winterhawks 21 goals 28 assists 49 points 68 games last year that’s a good way to make an impression and where does he go right to the net lot of traffic down there puck gets thrown to the net ends up on his stick and he beats Carson be team Jones up two nothing and again that’s a a place where the Flyers you know they already have um you know Carter Southern there they’re keeping an eye on him in Portland and a couple of his teammates on their radar as well Josh zakreski was not drafted this year but again seeing him play out there Flyers wanted to take a look at him 49 points in 68 games last season as Portland made it through the WHL final McDonald there just kills a play he just envelops a player with his size and just you know we hear towards Little good stage towards talk about that killing playe that’s what Hunter McDonald does that Big Frame McDonald pushing it up the wall Spencer Gill with under 10 seconds left here in this first period so we are going to see the clock wind down McDonald will kill the rest of it and that’s going to do it for our first frame here in four Hees team Jones with a two nothing lead after one period of play here this afternoon Jos kesy the second goal Hunter McDonald got the first goal yes yes correct our scorekeepers are ourselves and our CS didn’t even take a pen out until after that first goal was scored so so we’re we G get a quick cut of the ice here yep we’re gonna have a quick cut that’s a little softer than normal yeah yep um and uh we’ll get back at it for the second period as you mentioned that’ll be five on five once again and then coming up in the third period four on four a little three on three a shootout we got all the bases covered here we got to wonder if if you see you know team uh orange go on the power play if we’ll see a bumper bnk which ended up being a thing in London this year they sold shirts they did and quite a few of them I know some local flyer fans got in on that action as well all of a sudden they throw him down into the bumper spot and he just went on fire you know I remember when that happened um we’re hearing about it um Dale Hunter first did it in November I believe of last year and the first time you see video of it it it looks weird like it looks like he’s not supposed to be there it looks like he wandered astray a bit uh but you know he he quickly adapted to that position and just again to put it in a little bit of perspective compared to last year um Oliver bnk had 10 goals last year in his draft year for London and this year he had 24 15 of them on the power play so he scored five more Power Play Goals from that bumper spot than he did all goals his first year the Year prior um you know that when he was picked by the flyers in the first round of last year’s draft um in the 2023 NHL ENT draft there was a guy there Gabe perau it was a goal scorer and that was the lament oh the fers didn’t get proo and they took a d obviously people love gold score it and and bonk wasn’t to to turn a phrase not the sexier pick but those two will kind of be attached in a lot of the same ways that camor and Cole pfield are attached and for very similar reasons so we’ll keep an eye on that but bu bonss development last year in London um I I think some people maybe have been surprised at how the how much offense came as you mentioned a lot of that comes on the power play uh but he really had a good developmental year he put more muscle on his frame we I remember doing this game last with you and we just loved how we defended the Blue Line the way you used his stick and handled the rush at the Blue Line to create turnovers we know that’s what the Flyers like to do and he’s got better at that and at the NHL level yeah he’s probably not going to have 24 goals on the blue and be in the in the bumper position but getting the the right development in a place where you know you’re going to get the right development and that’s with the London Knights the way they run that OHL program is preparing those kids that are good enough to go on to the NHL and B’s getting that Bark’s getting that and uh you have confidence knowing that some of your key prospects are there getting the right training to get to the NHL and Danny Brer talked with you a little bit about that today I don’t know when you’re planning on using that audio but it will be part of of course Wednesday’s Flyers daily so if you want to hear Danny Brier talking a little bit about that um you know that’s coming up and he also did touch on the the thing you mentioned with cam York and Cole Coffield and all that and I think the you know just touching on that real quick even though has nothing to do with this Camp um the important thing to note for me there is that it takes defenseman longer to develop in the NHL than it does forwards so even now even now we’re sitting here um what is it is it five years after that draft I’m losing track of reality around the pandemic there but uh um you know it’s been a while since that draft and you know you got Cole Coffield andt with a you know whopping 8-year deal now and all that and people might look at that and say well that’s the decision well it really isn’t yet because cam York is still growing and I think the leap we saw him take last year U from the prior year to last year um once uh Ian Pro off and moved on and and New York had some more minutes and some more responsibility I think that’s what you’re going to see for another hopefully for another at least one year if not two more years of development before he hits the spe yeah and I mean i’ I mentioned that I think that cam York is the single best storyline of the flyer season from an individual player perspective the year that he had uh he played top pair all season long Bry and for about two-thirds of the year he played the most minutes sanheim got him because of the the usage that sanheim got on the power play and penalty kill at the beginning of the season for average time on ice but cam yor played all situations he is uh a willing a very but second on the Flyers and shot blocking only behind Nick seeler which by the way is impossible to block more shots than Nick seeler and he does it in a different way than Nick seeler Nick seel’s gonna slide around and do those things York’s GNA block shots because of his skating ability his balance on his skates to be in the right spot to block shots and the way he handles defending the rut in today’s game is so important obviously and I thought he had a tremendous year going into the final year of was brid steel where he’s got a still restricted free agent after next year I think he’ll be arbitration eligible but the value you got out of him last year and that you’ll get out of it this year at 1.6 million is pretty stunning for a top pair absolutely if you’re just joining us here we are in the uh first intermission if you will of uh this development Camp scrimmage team white team Jones has should be the orange team when we return and they’re just about done with the ice here so we uh it’s going to take a little bit longer to freeze today but we’re going to be going on here before too long we going to play another 15 minutes of five on five hockey here and then they’re going to do some short-sided play in the third period And I don’t know you think we’ll have a full Camp shootout I don’t think we’ll see every I don’t know at least I hope we’ll see what happens there we’re gonna have a shootout when this is all said and done um schedule’s out yeah lots of uh interesting titbits about the schedule for next next year Flyers are going to start the year with getting their uh first of two Western West Coast swings out of the way it’s going to be the I think that’s a really good thing the western Canada swing is going to get out of the way uh in in the early going yeah you don’t want to be going Edington in February do you Ben there’re done that 97 days from now fire on the Canucks in 38 minutes and 29 seconds 97 days so uh not that I’m counting down uh but starting out with that trip no games in front of it Brian so I think it mitigates the advantage of those West Coast teams having that they’ll probably go out a few days early do some team bonding stuff getting on the road 33500 miles away to start a year to get the group together I think is a good thing um I know it’s not ideal from a fan perspective yeah the year starting for 10 o’clock games Flyers after dark specials right out of the gate but I’d rather do them right at the start then do them in the middle of the schedule when I think it’s it can be more consequential that you’ve traveled 3500 miles through that and you mentioned the bonding I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Flyers go out a little bit early if they can and just get adjusted to the time too because uh four straight games at at 10 p.m. it’s not like a couple of those are in the afternoon or anything uh four straight 10 o’clocks and then they have to come back and they only have one day off before they’re probably gonna fly that day yeah and then they got their home opener the next day so it’s going to be a tough go on the back end of it but you know like you said I think it’s good to get it out of the way early on and then there you know there’s a bunch of other uh highlights to the schedule March is going to be interesting a seven game homeand yeah I don’t know that I’ve ever seen seven game homeand I don’t think I have either if I have it’s only been one calendar days um only one back to back in there as well the first half of the month of March is at home the second half is on the road yeah a little bit yeah in a row I think 15 in the month of March yep yep so uh uh check it out philadelphiaflyers.com tickets are on sale uh I think they’re on sale if they’re not they will be soon uh the season ticket packages definitely are available uh so you can check that out and of course Matt bof is the big story of the summer and he’ll be here uh come regular camp in the middle of September yeah I I can’t wait to see him um I can’t wait to see the effect that he’s gonna have on the eyes I I think that look we have to understand too this is a 19-year-old player yes and Beyond just the adjustment hockey wise it’s obviously going to be an enormous adjustment human wise coming here in you know a totally different country the language issue um I I think we have to be patient with M mov not going to be a finished product but you are going to see on many occasions glimpses of skill that are Superstar and as he gets adjusted to the game here and his body type and you I mean a lot of people say what what line is he going to play on I don’t know I don’t know what type of player he’s going to need to be with him yet from a center perspective or you we just don’t know those things just yet but all the skill and is there and to me he’s a very performative player as well likes to wow and he’s creative and a lot of that comes from just disgusting talent and the willing to try things that nobody else would try that’s where great plays and Superstar type plays and execution happen because guys just have this incredible ability and aren’t afraid to unharness it and not try and control it I’m looking forward to seeing in person just from even the video that we’ve seen you know I think one thing that people maybe lose track of a little bit is when you’re seeing a guy on on video if you’re seeing him even on TV you can’t really appreciate the speed until you see him in person everybody looks a little bit slower on camera um and and you know once we get him here and everybody gets a chance to see I’m not even sure who on the Flyers staff has seen him play in person uh I know some folks definitely went over there I’m sure um but it was hard to get over there at the time and the Flyers said Ken Hood a golf on the ground in Russia obviously seeing him all the time but we’re really looking forward to that come this fall we are underway here in Period number two of our development camp scrimmage got Arthur Smith in the net now for team Jones to our left as uh Team Jones moves from left to right on your radio dial John torella has joined us yeah all toward with some family members I think if I’m not mistaken I’m assuming that’s a grandchild because they’re wearing a flyers torella J oh really okay is that a custom job you don’t think that’s his nice takeaway there by Bon at Center and he Springs Orange going the way but a stick lift THS that Cole Canal held on to it just a little bit too long and here comes Noah Powell down the left side pal it’s a bump he made a nice centering pass looking for lenko missed him lenko almost got it back but it’s knocked out of the zone and team white needs to clear to stay on side here’s Owen mofin over the line and he was offside or either that or the guy going with him Matt Miller was off Sid Noah Pal’s an interesting one BR led the USHL in scoring uh debuk last year and he’s shown some signs of really popping in this Camp as well yeah and he’s legally death I would know I I interviewed him I would have known that yep apparently he’s got a great ability to read lips even with a beard uh and I really enjoyed my conversation with him he’s really shown well at this development Camp here’s a chance in for team Jones and they took it home Oliver bearson almost kept that out but hiy ruinin it ends up over the line and it is hikey ruo Honan all right that’s we actually did clarify this with him and JJ’s all ready to get an argument with you over it um but hiy ruo Honan fourth round pick last week makes it a three nothing team Jones lead yeah really nice finish there in tight beat his man to the net to make himself an option for that pass across ice and team Jones going up three nothing here imagine the smack to up on the perch there is beginning between Danny so that one coming just about two and a half minutes into this second period And I really I really feel like Jason team Jones has been maybe a half Step Ahead this whole game um they they they’ve uh from the very beginning obviously they scored 31 seconds in but they’ve seemed to have a just a little bit more cohesiveness in this scrimmage you know it’s hard to judge it because really only been playing together for three days yeah but uh you know they’ve looked pretty sharp here in this uh in this going yeah they don’t do a ton of game situation or systems work uh it’s skills and and drills that they’re doing here in the development Camp um so it’s not like they’re going okay we’re running a two12 split four check you do this you know it’s kind of just playing hockey genen Bron there with a good opportunity on Arthur’s SM he makes the save our coaches are comprised of our develop vment Camp staff it looks like Sammy kaan is assuming the head coaching duties for team White’s to our right he’s got Nick Schulz down there with him as well as Patrick Sharp here’s white with a Chance wraparound attempt is kept out by beis not a real wraparound but they tried to tuck it past that outstretched left leg that was jet luchenko showing the speed oh boy good play there very decisive distributor setting guys up as well and you see his skating ability put himself back in the position to to make a play all over the ice he thinks the game really well on the team orange bench which is a little bit harder for us to see but John lir is down there Chris Stewart part of that coaching staff Riley Armstrong is over there as well Cara Mor the head coach of the Princeton women’s program has been here this week here’s mcferson in that left wing Corner running down a loose Puck had an opportunity in the circle honestly can’t see if Cara’s on the bench or not but uh she’s been running some of the drills this week in the her fourth development camp with the flyer staff so excellent team there in Princeton as she coaches as well Puck out of play we’re gonna get a faceof here in the neutral zone we have 1125 left to go in this second period and it is a three nothing lead for team whites known officially as team Jones as B gives Barky a little uh forearm shiver there going to the dot for team Nathan London good friends as well one of the things that really stood out for Barky this past year was that he did not make the World Champ World Junior roster out of Canada one of his teammates at London did as Barky and centers it for Williams who scores Jack Williams wiring one home and Jack Williams continues to have an impressive Camp he makes it four nothing is his second goal of the game I don’t think so but he had a couple of good chances yeah excellent pass here from Barky too and if you notice Barky he looks it off yeah and kind of no look passes it across the Ice uh to Williams who fires it beats Carson bjis on the glove hand side but Barky and that speed puts himself in a good position then that deceptiveness to get that pass off and the onetime shot from Williams finds the back of the net keam Jones up now four to nothing and fast start here in the second period getting back to Barky the I think the player that made the world juniors might have been Cohen I’m not sure e Cohen maybe that sounds right but uh whoever it was Barky you know was a little bit obviously sour on not being named of the team but he comes back to London and in that teammate’s absence he just took over for like three weeks y that that that’s where he really you know that’s where his 102 points really started to FL flish was during that stretch of time and that was something I’m sure the Flyers were really happy to see because you know one of the things you’re looking at when you’re watching these players develop is how do they handle adversity and yeah and that you know he he could have sulked he could have just kind of you know gone through the motions until World Juniors was over but uh he didn’t do that no it presented an opportunity for him to move up and get more opportunity on the power play and more opportunities around the ice and what did he do with it and and that’s what you’re always looking for what does it guy do with opportunity he maximized it not everybody does that these guys aren’t used to not being picked for a team right yeah everybody a lot of these guys you’re seeing here are here because they got picked for this that or the other that’s a ton here’s a breakaway for Kaplan we’ll get back to that in a moment Kaplan moving in he hit the goal post short side rebound fired back in by Jack berglin that was knocked down and it’s battle for along this near wall berglin back out at the point that 51st overall pick walking in put it out in front and he had Sam sedley there but sedley lost his footing and slid P the pass Here Comes team white the other way it’s cernick trying to get around Campbell can’t do it Matthew Campbell has it in his skates and now he’ll get some time to move it out so presy at the line tried to chip it in deep that was knocked down and now he’ll get it back at his own line McDonald will fire it near side for Gil Spencer Gil back over to McDonald and now ahead for Z cresy on the left wing wall Miller slowing him down zru will dump it in deep Campbell after it it’s kicked free comes to Bolton in the corner now back out to Gil on the point left Point McDonald a shot wide long rebound will be knock out by team orange and McDonald’s going to track this down back in his own end headman pass blocked off by Sam sedley but it’s picked up again by team white we chip it in deep this is J.R Avon again made a name for himself at this Camp a few years ago was invited ended up with the contract out of it and one of the success stories here he turned 21 on Thursday 18 points 65 games to the Phantoms last year McDonald for Gil as this is a long shift for the white Defenders Barky back out there once again here pal pal trying to knock it three croll moving ahead to Cano great job by McDonald once again there you go that’s some of the uh things that they’re seeing out of him in Lehigh Valley that might develop him doing in the NHL ahead here is pal moving in and it’s made by bson and what a pass from the back end there to Spring pal on that Breakaway is that gil on the pass I don’t I’m not sure Giller McDonald they were both on the eyes still out there they’re back out they’re on the bench now yeah he got the change that’s an unbelievable pass good save by bearson there and Noah Pal’s a guy who knows how to score uh mentioned before that he led the USHL in scoring this past year for bue we got a penalty Jason oh my we have a penalty no we don’t no it was an nicing I see uh one of our referees here looking like he was going to call a penalty um we do have a uh crack Gro officials here from local ranks Devin Kaplan a little bit ago rung that one off the post and plays at beu play a little bit with Matlin celebrini and number one overall pick in this draft and he’s a guy that uh it’s a big year for him at at PU Williams out there again yeah the the The Bu connection is pretty strong right now with the Flyers and we’ve got a couple of guys Northeastern as well that uh you know just trying to see where they where they come out a lot of times these college guys come out a little bit older he Flyers can get a little bit better read on where they’re at in that scenario as team white moves it out ahead mimo Rizzo is not in this game today he is you know they’re taking it easy on on him he is is in the camp but he had an injury this past season he played through at the end of the year but he’s another guy that’s you know one of the one of the older guys in this Camp 23 years old and you know when these guys go the junior route for a couple of years then end up in college here’s another goal for team white is Wyatt Wy fires one through Wy pulling it off the wall and making it a five nothing lead for team Jones yeah ends up going just through the five hole of beis can’t get down and seal that up quick enough as he does come off the wall there and goes right to a scoring area as he gets around the dot and fires that one with some traffic around beison has a hard time picking it up that’s that area that I always talk about calling decision Zone where the defenseman doesn’t know whether to come up to you or the Winger doesn’t know to come down to you and he takes advantage of that spot Fires at home now five nothing te AR’s got to show the push back here now yeah these things always have a way of kind of balancing out by the time it’s done we’ll see if orange can do that we’re about halfway through the scrimmage here with six and a half left to go in this second period again we’re going to get to uh a few minutes of shorter side play in the third period but um you know again looking at some of these guys Hunter McDonald is one of the northeastern guys who um you know Flyers signed him after his sophomore year but again a lot of these guys they’ll go to us Junior for a couple of years going to college as a 20-year-old freshman then they come out and you know Matt Miller’s a guy who actually 1999 birthday he’s the oldest guy in the camp here at he’ll turn 25 in September just finished up a four-year career at nebras Omaha and then signed with the Phantoms so Flyers get a look at him with a lot more of a sure chance that the kind of player he’s going to be yeah you see a lot of the guys in the division one programs and yet you have the rare true freshman uh but the the college route has become a very viable route nice Mo by bergling there um a very viable route to getting to the NHL man you have a little more flexibility too if you draft a college player than you do a Canadian Junior player here is J.R Avon back in his own end as he waits to change there’s Miller as you just spoke V’s going to chase this one in the corner now he’ll pull up and go to the bench for a line change team orange will break out looking for their first goal of the contest is team orange Sam sedley behind the net had it knocked off his stick sesy back there making things happen he’s having a pretty impressive game so far as Josh sesy Here Comes Co Canal up the left side had this pass blocked down in front and here comes Barky back over the line off for McDonald did notice who blocked that pass down no I did not McDonald you were in my way actually we’re a little cramped up here but uh good play by Barky there another solid play along this near wall Campbell will come back and pick it up for team Orange He is challenged by Alex bump and bump forces a pass to go arrive flipped out to Center lenko right back to Pal here’s pal looking for a trailer he finds it and Spencer Gill with a shot save made be arson rebound batted at in front knock just wide it’s loose on the Left Post and now pulled free by luchenko he loses it rather that was PO with possession team Warren trying to break out here ahead to mlin and they will find Center but jenko starts that whole thing with a Nifty little play at the Blue Line to kind of set the whole thing up get in Gill who’s coming in on the weak side and gets that shot off and creates a little bit of Mayhem really nice quick decision by Jeff jent lenko here’s mcferson spinning away from a man luchenko was down there in the corner battling for it chopped out to mofin in the circle now in front for c a shot and a kick save made and it looks like Arthur Smith is in the game now for team white the Princeton goenda foul works his way free in the slot almost got a shot away lost at the last moment picked up in the corner by J.R Avon here’s Avon into the high slot to one knee knocked free here’s Wy with a shoted by pal save made by beon and he will hold on well that’s a very nice redirect by Noah pal there as the shot comes in from the point along the ice he’s got to stick down as a good Target there beon does what you’re supposed to do there come out take a little bit of the net Away by making yourself bigger he’s already big yarnis uh and he eats that one up good redirect though from Noah pal who almost got free coming through the middle of the ice prior to that great crowd here in bores today to watch this development Camp scrimmage and you can see they’re three deep behind the net there got people climbing on things to be able to see stuff did not Grease the poles here in Vorhees today that’s probably a good thing here’s Wy spinning around behind his net and he will play across ice pass down the left wing Here Comes team white Williams now with it tried to play it back off to Samson but not the way here is a two-on-one with remik coming down the left side remic trying to put it out in front but a great play by Ethan Samson to break that up and orange now gets it back low side left Circle it’s blocked now another attempt is knocked wide of the net comes back out to the left Point kept in by team Orange it’s Taylor coming down the left side Trey Taylor a camp invite from Clarkson of the ecac here is mlin down to the right side that one rolled off a stick into the corner Wy moving it back ahead and they break out here for team white we run down at Center and orange coming back the other way ahead for remik Here Comes Parks down the left side Parks stops pulls it up high he was pretty much in there by himself S as team orange was changing and so team White NOW tying it up it’s w Wy sending it around behind the net Campbell chasing this back into his own end icing is waved off he gets away from Barky nicely almost lost it to cerick now he does lose it beison swatting it to the corner and it’ll be played up the near wall out the center Molen sends it rink wide for schard and now ahead Here Comes Sant sui on the left side Campbell knock it away from him here’s cnick now getting it back cnick tried to Center that was blocked and team orange with control looking to carry it ahead a pass off the mark and this will be whistled down for icing so the faceof will come back into the end of Carson beon with minute 26 left here in this second period and bearson looking for a little bit of uh offensive run support right now uh for his team as they’re trailing in this game and look like jet lenko back out there right now boy he’s been impressive too BR you can see that first step one of the youngest players in the draft he’s going to be 18 coming up on August 21st and talking to him you didn’t get the sense you were I didn’t get a sense I was talking to a kid that was my son’s age there’s a shot just wide and team orange is on it our understanding is I think he might have been the youngest player in the draft he was like literally here’s a shot blocked to the end wall he doesn’t turn 17 or doesn’t turn 18 until August 21st a shot deflected wide off the end glass the cutoff date for the draft is September 15th I think yeah three weeks and he would have been in next year’s draft yep so uh and you go you know at our age we go oh that’s not that big of a deal but when you’re growing up and you’re one of the youngest kids by almost a year yeah that is a big difference it you see very few uh first round picks that are late birthdays in in their year yeah I don’t know what the USA Hockey cut off is but uh you know I’ve seen it you know with my daughter she’s a June birthday and you know it’s it’s it’s pre prevalent throughout the game the tail end of some of these years wherever that cut off is um you know it can be um you know that just tells you that just makes it that much more impressive I think for for for luchenko and you know Danny Brier’s talked a lot about how when the season started he probably wasn’t a first round pick but he had such a good year and then he got to the under 18 worlds and had a great tournament and really started to get on people’s radar and you know the Flyers thought all right well maybe maybe I’ll get him at the bottom end of the first round he just kind of climbing and climbing and climbing 39 seconds left they’ve pulled the go team white has pulled the go I think barky’s the one called for that unless Sammy sanctioned it interesting strategy here from Samy Captain yeah oh we got a broken stick there from a team AR player now too so six on four and three and a half here for team white team orange is able to clear it out and team White’s going to regroup here with 22 seconds left in the period pal on the far wall chipping it looking for Gil mcferson knocked that free here comes estopa into the empty net he scores I should only count as a half of them for our coaching our tor’s apoplectic on the perch that spot now white doesn’t seem too too upset about it they’re being aggressive so now we’ve got team orange on the board maybe that that maybe that sets things up for a big third period they’re I think they’re going to keep the going not Marc a stop of the camp invite from Michigan getting the goal there undrafted player looking to take the college route to the NHL here’s mcferson with a Chance late and we’ve got a penalty coming here with 5.7 seconds a hooking call against team white and so we’re gonna see I I I don’t know we’re gonna see what happens here we get the chase group I think they’re I thought they were going to do the chase like we’re yeah like we’re uh playing squirts here I think that’s what we’re going to get um but marus sappa is going to be a senior at Michigan this fall we are gonna have the Chase goup look like it should be mcferson taking the shot yep might be the last time in any of these guys careers that they do this I don’t know here comes mcferson moving in fakes shoots and scores ah what a finish in the second Ryan mcferson two goals for team orange in the late going and it’s now a 5-2 lead for team white yeah and that uh you get the the empty net goal and now a shootout goal and now you’ve got a game Ryan mcferson a six round pick of the Flyers last year he did one year in the bchl which is a Western Canadian Junior League where you can keep your NCAA eligibility it’s not major Junior British Columbia yep um and and after that year he is now going to New Hampshire in the fall so he’ll be playing in the NCAA next year as the second period has come to an end here at Vira the Flyers training center in bores New Jersey got one more period for you here coming up after this uh resurface we’re going to do some fouron four hockey I think that should be interesting cuz you’ll see the really Speedy there’s more ice available so you’ll see the more speedy and a lot of uh creative skill and a lot of Rush opportunities back and forth with the fouron four soon to turn into the three on three and things could get real interesting real fast uh with that happening uh here with a 5-2 game after two periods of play uh Denver Bark’s a guy that I’ll say in the fouron four three on three that’s going to uh show very well and uh some of the Jet lenko and that speed I’m looking forward to watching him in this as well you still got to remember you go to can’t get caught out there dead tired you got to be mindful of your changes and we’ll see how that plays out here Alex bump’s another guy really good skater and uh that you can keep an eye on with the extra ice out there available as well so this is again as you mentioned uh not really an EV value ation camp for the vast majority of these guys um you and there what what the intention is I think is for them to leave here with some things that they can work on um I saw some references to some some coaches out there in the various leagues who had guys here in the past that their players come back and share things with their teammates and their coaching staff and so that’s kind of the objective of this camp um some of the guys that you’re seeing here will be in the main Camp uh like Denver Barky and Oliver Bon but anybody that’s um on an NCAA track anybody that’s playing college hockey will not be here in September can’t can’t miss class so uh so so you will not see um a lot of those guys here if they’re again coming out of the buus or North Easterns or other NCAA schools of the world um so you know they’re they’re they’ve been they’ve been focusing on this week for a while especially the guys that knew they were coming obviously the draft picks knew they were going somewhere after the draft but not necessarily that they know where um so they’re going to go back probably you know they’ll take a little time off and then Late July rolls around they’ll start you know kind of getting their bearings again working on this stuff that they worked on this week and you know the the the college guys have to go back even earlier than the Flyers will get here oh yeah back in late late August I guess something like that yeah um you know so uh before you know it we’re going to be rolling into a new season here yeah I mean here’s the thing development isn’t just development camp and it’s not just when you get here the Flyers development staff is checking in and going around and watching and talking to these players and they’re coaches quite a bit develop that happens you know you look at a guy like Carson yit for example and he said they’re they’re turning me into Pro and that’s not just when he’s here for this camp or the main training camp he loves being here by the way you got to kick him out of the building I I have never seen a player as happy to be drafted as he was last year in the second round yeah I mean I spoke with him on Monday unbeli sat down with him he’s still just loves everything about it and you know he and I obviously geek out of rolton quite a bit um and he’s a guy that’s come back and I I was like oh my goodness dude like what did you do in the All Season yeah yeah I remember Ronnie Ronnie Adder was like that too he walked in the year after we drafted yeah um and and Carson in particular I could tell that he’s most likely a a tremendous teammate because such a positive guy everybody well he he he was hugging people left and right um so after you get I got to give some background here after you are picked you meet the table you see that sometimes on TV then you go back backstage into a what we call a car wash type thing um and and what that means is you’re going from Station to Station doing various obligations you’re getting your head shot taken you’re doing some videos for NHL social media some guys get interviewed on TV some other guys um you know do uh this that and the other and as we’re walking through this process I mean so many people are coming up to him that had also been drafted and are giving him huge hugs I can’t believe it I mean you could tell how many people in the world of hockey that was in that draft class liked him yeah and he was on a world junior he was on a world under 18 World Junior Team um there’s a lot of guys in this camp that came out of under 18 worlds for uh mostly Canada the US um couple other countries represented as well but you know these guys uh although they come from great distances I mean this this Camp is literally from guys all around the world um a lot of them have seen each other at one point or another yeah before they get here maybe they played against each other in a league or in a tournament or maybe they were on a tournament team together I mean there’s a couple of these guys that uh we’re you know in this day and age with the information we have available to us couple of these guys we were able to track all the way back to that brick Invitational thing that’s out in Edmonton those kids are 10 years old and they play play in that tournament Quebec the Quebec Junior Quebec Peewee tournament as well another big one where a lot of NHL soon to be nhlers will have played in that tournament it’s funny hockey is a really big commun really big small community yeah a lot of people oh yeah you played with this guy or you played with each other you played with the guy who I played with you know those kind of things and it’s great to see when a guy’s got a reputation like Carson and and is well liked by everybody it’s for a reason and it’s infectious you like having that guy around and around your building and Hoy players are great you know we deal with them all year round and they’re a pleasure to deal with because the room police is ego yeah and it’s always about the group and it’s never about one individual that that’s really the essence of this sport most people that play it are not going to be at a flyer development camp or NHL development camp and end up playing pro but you can still get those things out of it um out of the game so uh we still got a period to go here and what’s going to be a close game I I I hate when this game’s over because then we have that period of time you just done you saved it oh almost lost the benen yeah almost froze onto the Ice uh but then because you have the period after this where things will get really quiet around the NHL all the Insiders will go dark a lot of the content creators will not create content I will um still three days a week but and there won’t be a lot of big news and get some things that happen here and there and then it’s just essentially the countdown to Captain skates yeah you know September 1st and we’ll see guys trickling into town and that attendance of those skates coming you know getting bigger and bigger and pretty much everybody’s here prior to that and they’re all dreading John tortorella’s rope I’m sure a lot of guys are ramping up their skating in in anticipation of the Rope being on the ice I me tell I meant to tell Brian Bourne that we need to cover the ropes vacation here over the next couple of months um he’ll hear this in about five seconds in his earphones um you know I’m sure the Rope is also getting ready for training camp right it’s it’s you know on the beach there’s a lot of guys that like to take that rope yeah and burn it it it’s it’s spending some time at the shore it’s you know out on a boat where it was born right it’s a nautical rope Tor said that it’s the only thing he’s taken from every team he’s ever coach going every started in Tampa it’s the same rope he he he he bought it he he told the story about it after his first Camp he bought it at West Marine or something a boat know boat supply store down there and you know it um again this followed him around and you know it’s uh it’s it’s one of those things that has been kind of legendary uh following him from from place to place so we’ll uh if you haven’t seen it basically what it is it’s ice is 200 feet long so the Rope is maybe 150 feet I don’t know yeah then it goes down the middle of the ice they move the goals up to it and that’s the first day of camp was just skating around the Rope around the Rope yep and I understand last year didn’t they they added he added another circuit last year which um caught Scott lton off Gard know I was talking to the other day some of the media members and Jackie had mentioned I was thinking about trying the skating challenge oh God I said you can try the skating challenge I am not I am not taking that challenge um I’ve done enough of those hell conditioning days on skates and boy that is one your lower screaming every muscle in your body yeah I mean you if you’re if you want to take that challenge it’s on you alone I and you better be training already I could skate around the road it’ll look like you know public skate here when he says four times around the road didn’t mean for you to take a half hour right yeah I I mean as long as there’s no time limit I I’d be happy to take on the roope I you know I don’t know what the time limit is to be honest yeah you see guys just so so stressed uh and that’s what that that’s what that thing is all about is getting guys to fight through the pain and the stress that that’s going to put your body in on day one a can some guys I remember cam York I mean he was he was having a hard time yeah and we know how good of a skater and how hard he trains but also that challenge is about how you exert yourself throughout it yes how you pace yourself you come out too strong you’re going to really have a hard time you have to know how to how to hand that situation and and you know again the one of the um intangibles that it kind of creates is it it does kind of serve as an early bonding thing because it gives everybody in the camp a a great event of adversity to kind of you know uh they’ve all done it so they can all commiserate with each other for the first couple of days I didn’t ask jet lenko if he knew about the Rope yeah um when I talked to him the other day it’s on Friday’s Flyers daily if you like to check that out had a great conversation with him but he’ll get his first taste of the Rope I’m sure he learned about the Rope uh since being drafted by the Flyers seem to have lost our referees I think uh somebody somebody has been dispatched I was gonna say below the like you do everywhere else on the bench dispatched in the room to get our crew uh the intermissions are are slightly shorter today than normal um so uh are they unioned is that maybe that part of the issue I I was very clear with them that we were playing three periods today I don’t know what uh there we go there we go all right so it is a 52 game right now in favor of Team white the boys giving it to the rest um we’re going to start out four on four here we’re going to play eight minutes of four on four and then H go to three on three for seven minutes chenko out there to start the four on four they’re gonna try that again Marty Bon’s old number 43 is that the camp number that’s the camp number yeah I think the only guy from the past two weeks that had his number from the get-go is ma celini yeah he was handed 71 on the draft floor yeah third time is going to be a charm here we’re going to get this got get this first they’re late and then they we got to go through five face offs here they weren’t able to mentally prepare for the puck there we go jenko wins the draw boys give it to him here’s Alex bump down the left side bump with some room as he comes over the line he’s tied up by Jack berglin chasing him to the corner bump moving it out to the right Point Samson will switch places with Jack Paige drops it to lenko got the weave going on here was Paige moves it out to bump bump wanted to cut to the slot but got denied and sent back out to Center s sedley playing him pretty closely there now it’s moved right back ahead to luchenko trying to spr on the breakway lenko can’t get through the traffic as Bonk does a very good job of tying him up and white gets it back out into the slide here’s schard with a shot and that one’s deflected into the netting and out of play yeah that again in the OHL W and London play each other six times a year so uh Oliver Bon is very familiar with Chet luchenko having to defend that speed and lenko can just flat out fly unbelievable first step great bur can show speed in small areas which is a Hu this game yeah it’s played on 200 by 85 sheet but it’s just a bunch of small games all over the ice and that’s one thing that’s going to help him as a pro here’s Wy in the corner sent it back around to the far side corner for Barky Barky works his way out of jail bring it up to the side wall has tried to drop it to schard but knocked off his stick and now Barky trying to chase his London teammate Bon down the right side put it out in front did Bonk and that one deflected up over the crossb starting to see that wide open four on four it’s Wy Avon threw that out in front and Wy had his stick lifted Mick ferson is GNA pick this up and come back the other way loose at the top of the left Circle it’s Campbell could not quite maneuver it around a team white player and Powell will move it off to Williams Williams couldn’t reach it in the slot he’ll Circle back toward the line Williams lost an edge but got the pass away now McDonald’s trying to find Williams going to the net that was deflected though and Bon now will battle on the far wall Bonk surveying from behind the net he’s challenged by Williams now moves it ahead to Cole canal and here comes canal through Center Canal over the Blue Line Canal had it knocked off his stick and now McDonald chasing him down bit of a size difference there McDonald knocks him free to the net McDonald centers with save by bson Noah pal is stoned all alone in front first of all the foot speed on MC Donald was very impressive and then the just the pass to know an unbelievable glove save by clarson beis that’s the one will remember from this week hand here’s gil on the right side white is changing is suu comes on passes behind him and it’s going to come to mcferson he’ll move it out to Center Here Comes team orange a stoper looking for his second goal that shot was blocked goes into the right side corner and up the wall where it’s knocked ahead to Center here here’s Jack Paige with a step Paige moving in a backhander save made by beis couple of big ones here from Carson beison on team Orange in this early going of the third period now here’s a blast from the left Circle for mcferson that one stopped real nice burst of speed from Jack cage there to first of all get to that puck first and then get in on the opportunity very impressive skating you see the the line change is happening much more rapidly here as well at 4 on4 it’s going to be high Pace on the left side here is Samson with a shot that one deflected wide here is Samson with Wy looking on it’s knocked to the left side of the net and a battle forward in that left side Circle Orange has got to get on the horse here a little bit down three here’s a big drive from the left side Circle and that one’s gobbled up by Arthur Smith Trey Taylor with the blast we got a whistle I it’s been bugging me for a minute Why Wyatt Wy would be here and it’s because it’s not Wyatt Wy no I don’t know no it’s a Cooper Wy or Cooper Wy I imagine they got to be related so I apologize for that he’s I don’t know when he got here he’s not on the roster that I got at the start of the week he is on the roster we got today um but he’s uh out of Still Water St Cloud State so not off the post want to make sure we get that right for the Wy fan jet lenko back out there right now here is lenko up the right side lenko over the line again all by himself we’ve been hearing that he does this a lot in the OHL and in this particular instance he gets tied up in that corner and team orangee is going to regroup there Jack Bergland again second round pick for the Flyers this year’s draft is Dad Christian Bergland a former NHL played 86 NHL games but over 700 in his career all told a lot of that in Europe see the play that lenko makes there back pressure creates the turnover now they’re going the other way ah I just beat pck in but great play he got real good hands in tight too because he not only ties up the man then he picks the puck out and pushes it back to his defenseman we got Denver vary out there now Parky and bump Donald and Gil that just seems to go together doesn’t it it does pump and Bon put them out together and don’t forget Brink yeah they’re all coming at some point here they might be playing together good for check by Bary sounds like a law firm Here Comes team orange out of Their Own Zone it’s Kaplan moving it ahead to Center Kaplan tried to drop it off to Campbell but that was broken up and here’s Barky now the other way Barky has spont going to the net he’ll keep it himself Barky holds shoots and a save made by yison he gobbles that up with the glove but some impressive stick work there by Denver Barky yeah the pass comes in elevated on a wobbling Puck he knocks it down in full stride and then is able to read the play and then cut across through the middle gets a good opportunity off but jarson gets out makes himself big and makes good glove safe here’s team white behind the net is bump spins away from a man he’s kicked to the corner and now he’ll push it ahead here’s mcferson trying to work his way out of the Zone but team orange will instead spin back behind their net and regroup here comes mlin down the right side mlin to the top of the circles drops it off for Kaplan holding holding and now spinning away is Kaplan he’ll leave it off for mlin back toward Kaplan that’s just out of his reach McDonald bumps him off the puck and now here comes Denver Barky up the right side he lost it though and Kaplan coming right back in trying to drop it off here’s a shot oh and a glove save made by Smith he just got a piece of that bid from the left point that was Art kosoff the camp invite out of the KHL Here Comes Miller up the left side it’s Pride away from him and now here comes team white through Center down the right side here’s Williams with a shot the save made by yerson some speed there from Jack Williams down the right side Williams has got a goal in this game is had a very good week as we get a nice in here Williams does a real good job flying The Zone recognizing team White’s got possession in their Zone flies up The Far Side that stretch pass comes across and then he gets a good opportunity bjon Bon’s really settled in here nice I know he didn’t like to goal through the five hole that beat him coming off the half wall since then he’s made some really good saves so like to see a goenda makes another one here on Samson so another faceof coming up in that rightwing Circle minute 24 left of four on four play and then we’re going to have three on three for seven minutes or so that’s GNA get wild and we’ll have a surprise length of shootout here’s Bon taking away a loose puck just inside the line Williams though Prides that away from Bon will come behind the net he’s flushed out of there by jenden but team white now will accelerate through Center here’s Avon with a nice move down the right side the net is empty for team Orange it’s thrown out in front it is loosen the slot now buried by Samson into the empty net with 54 seconds left in this portion of period number three now 6-2 team white so we have an empty neck go for each side now as team orange is getting uh rather aggressive as they pulled Carson beis out of there and we’ll head to the three the three on three is Going to Be Wild the four on four has been much more open three on three is going to be even more so no about take draw Oliver Bon dropping it back inside his own line and gets a pass back and they’ll move it up the left side now bon in the circle couldn’t settle that pass from his defense partner that’s Taylor coming down the left side we only had three orange players out there somebody just came off the bench thought we had gone to three on three then I saw four white yeah details Here Comes team orange out through center now fully equipped at four on four Taylor on the near side underneath us will go back into his own end and now Bon got it Bon flipping it out for croll and here comes croll down the left side croll carries it over the line troll looking to throw it out in front that was blocked it’s worked on on those end boards cck move it ahead and that’ll do it for the first part of period number three got that three on three action coming here now for about another eight minutes eight minutes to three on three 62 game as team orange trailing team white team Brier trailing team Jones uh by four goals heading into this three on three we’re going to get a goal tending change it looks like for team Jones as in will come Matteo drobach from Branford in the Ontario Hockey League Arthur Smith gonna take his spot the Princeton goenda drobach will get back in there he’s been sitting for a while now so Arthur Smith had had some silly numbers in the nahl a couple years back 233 and six 1.94 goal play for uh it’s listed as lonar the Lone Star brahmas which I thought were in Fort Worth but maybe not anymore I don’t know um but uh last year 186 And1 with a 1.59 yeah you know I guess that was that was two years ago his La his last year in the nahl last year he Princeton last year with a 77 and2 record and a 2.96 goals against and uh new leag leadership coming to Princeton this year the men’s side so uh that program will be looking to take a step forward with sure Arthur Smith making some contributions you want to go to one of the great ranks in North oh my that’s my that might be that might be my favorite rank I you know and this is coming from somebody who’s in you know 31 32 NHL ranks a year I think i’ still rather go watch G Obie Baker than any of them here’s Ru Honan controlling off the draw and dropping it back to mcferson three on three here for eight minutes to wrap up I shouldn’t say wrap up we’re going to do a shootout when we’re done but uh the playing portion of the scrimmage Bolton dropping it off for McDonald McDonald taken to the boards by renck sedley coming in and pulling that free and now it’s moved ahead to Parks knocked off his stick though and McDonald will Rim it back around behind the net for ruonan on the left side knocked away from him though and here’s a two on0 for team orange Parks right side flips it out of for reck and a save made by draic unbelievable we’ve talked about this before that’s one of those times when you have a two on0 and you almost think about it too much make it too complicated unbelievable save cnick down the right side cik puts it out in front zakreski looking for his second that one was stopped by beis and he got a piece he didn’t know it here’s cernik worked on by mcferson along the end boards puts it back up the wall zres is chasing out of our view here but now I’ll get it back at Center and zakreski turning on the Jets up the left side zakreski into the circle shoot save made by beison it went off his blocker and then the outside of the post Molen getting it back Austin Molen for cnick walking into the slot his pass hit es skate McPherson’s going to have a step the other way cnick back quickly to make this a two-on-one mcferson to the net wied to pull it around the goenda just wide yeah often time when you get in this three on three it becomes position hockey where you’ll see a defenseman down below the the dot and a forward back and you got to be careful in those areas by the Blue Line not to turn a puck over because that’s when you get those two1 the other way here’s bump with lenko out there and Jack Paige happily jumping on the ice he’s got the puck now he’ll come back out to center with it smart move here comes bump gets around Miller lenko to his right bump into the circle back out for Paige Paige going to the corner with it ends up putting it behind the net team orange to it there Oliver Bon out for team Orange is going to the ice with Matt Miller the puck carrier Miller swings behind the net still holding Miller into the high slot wanted to take the shot but he lost the handle on the puck he’ll have to come back out to center with it bump and Lenco still out there chenko defending here in the zone as team orange tries to break past him and they finally will Miller gets around bump Miller into the circle back for Bon his shot stopped and the the rebound picked up and skated to the line now out by bump pulls it away from Miller and bump still carrying it away from bunk bump into the circle tried to step around to Bergland and ends up in on ends up in on berson he covers it up but good job by Alex bump there good Puck protection ability as he’s waiting for his fresh troops to get out there and I’m assuming team Jones is going to have the penalty shot here it should be no they they’ve opted for a oh no they I think they called this penalty on team white that’s what it is so mlin will pick this up and come in shoots and a save made turned aside by dreck and Barky will knock that free bar leaves it off for Avon who spins around behind the net by Avon there coming down the right side Avon’s got Barky with him tried to find him that pass hit escap and quickly the other way comes team orange but the pass intercepted nicely by Barky tries to Spring Avon it gets to him Avon in by himself moves in De save M berson knocks it aside with the glove real nice play by Barky to Spring Avon there but jison stays down on it makes a save keeps it six to here is Taylor walking into the circle Taylor on the backand Avon got it out in front and jrun with a shot and a save made by drebach he clutched it just a little half a second and that gave drebach the amount of time he needed to get there and make the blocker sa clock’s not running well see if we can fix that we’re standing above the uh the scorers table Here Comes team white out we do have the clock running again with just under five minutes left in this third period down the right side here’s Cooper Wy out in front and the puck bounced on him at the last moment he couldn’t get a clean shot away play by troll there they battle forward in the corner troll is leaning up against Jack Williams and now it’s knocked free Here Comes team orange this is Campbell down the right side a stop on the left and he’s the one run off the play by Cooper Wy Wy will get to that one and now he will wait for his teammates to change he’ll change himself drops it off to suku and here comes Samson now with it for team white down the right side here’s Samson now coming up the middle suu down there with him and we got a four player battle in the corner suu is going to pull this free knocked off his stick though out to Center White will have to reset some good defense played there by Campbell as ruo Honan trying to spin away from Devin Kaplan in his own end Samson ahead to ruonan he’s got a step ruonan moving in shot wide in the net not sure berson made a say but he stayed with ruonan all the way and drove him past the play post here is Kaplan now at Center trying to get around suu drops it off for Miller back to Kaplan Kaplan tried to feed it to man that was blocked and now it’s chipped ahead zakreski down the left side into the circle holds and a nice sliding play by Miller to break that up Miller’s going to get it out of the scrum and now here comes team orange through Center this isn’t something you’ll see a ton of Mao man leading the rush he a shot stopped by dreck and now man’s going to get this back man in the corner trying to pull free he’s got Parks coming to him and now he’ll get it to him Mato man at 66 229 he’s the biggest guy here carrying the mail for team orange on that particular sequence here is cik flipping it out to Center schard down the right side he’ll stop at the line and regroup a little bit back to cnick Here Comes Austin cnick through Center into the circle cnick puts it in oh a great move by Austin cnick getting around the traffic and a quality shot past Carson beison to make it 72 boy unbelievable he sees a little crease that he can burst into there does herick and he goes in and he just push pulls that puck from his back end to his for end and there is no dust in it off he just gets it right off very difficult shot to read beats uh bis low blocker unbelievable burst I know SI last year dealt with some concussion issues um and he looking to rebound from that that’s a sensational goal and really reading what the ice was giving him and having that burst sure helps when when you get that opportunity he showed it there yeah one of those concussions happened at World Juniors that’s where serenic was playing he played three games and then had another injury and missed the rest of the tournament but uh you know again he’s uh looking to bounce back from that this coming year another real good Outlet passing hter McDonald he joins the rush now here is zakreski working in the circle trying to maneuver it through some traffic to Sawyer Bolton ended up kick to the corner now back out to the line for McDonald is able to keep it in McDonald finds it to the left side point for zakreski he tried to feed it into the high slot that was knocked away and here’s jenden with a step jenden moving in a shot he scores Alexis jenden real nice job by jenden there reading that play lenko had just come off the bench to try and defend it kind of got a stick in there I’m not sure if that was maybe deflected up a little bit off the Stick of L go uh legenden real good burst there and he finally someone’s finally able to be beat Dre jenden a seventh round pick in 2022 for the Flyers he signed up with leei Valley at the end of his Junior season last year five goals in 17 games for the Phantom here’s a shot from the slot by Bolton stopped by beis coming the other way now is mcferson he’s run down by Austin Molen though and moved ahead Bolton’s going to go after this one he’ll get back there and negate icing but he’s all by himself and he’s knocked off the puck by kosoff he’ll come back through Center a pass out to the line was out of the zone so we get a whistle on offside SC against team orange 18.3 seconds on the clock here Jason seems like team Jones has this in the bag well at least pre shootout depends on how many points we’re going to give the shootout go yeah I’d like to see the development staff do the shooting two points per Samy go in yeah Sammy kaan on one bench to our right Nick Patrick Sharp and over to our left we do have John mclair Sam Moran’s over there as well as Chris Stewart here’s coll through Center he got aead of steam real quick and fires one into the bread basket of drebach for the whistle J drebach made a really good account of himself here in this Camp he’s looked sharp all week he’s performed really well in this game uh from Branford in the Ontario Hockey League he’s maybe peeled a few eyes over a real good goal tending depth uh in in their organization oh what an unbelievable save that is that was Marcus sta on the left side off a great feed from Oliver bong and a better save by Matteo Drake back wow just as I’m singing his praise as he goes and does something like that that’s an unbelievable save heard you talking about him yeah Cody croll is another intriguing guy he’s the other guy who has been a captain of The mosan Lumberjacks and uh you know they play 60 some odd games in that League last year 58 games 60 points for coll 102 penalty minutes though and 123 the year before in 60 games that wasn’t the anomaly not sure what he’s doing in the USHL that gets that kind of but uh you know obviously uh that that that screams fire right there yeah he went from minus 13 the first year to plus 22 in the second so he’s going to go to North Dakota in the fall and he still has one more year of draft eligibility left but uh certainly a guy the Flyers might be keeping an eye on up in North Dakota yeah no doubt about it could program and we’re going to see the shootout now and Y few guys that I’m really looking forward to seeing here as it looks like Bon is going to be the first shooter of course team orange nothing full disclosure we have no idea how long this is going to last yeah so we’ll be surprised along with all of you robic st in the net here for team Jones and obviously Carson yon for team Brier Here Comes Bon Oliver Bon into the right side Circle he holds he deakes on the backand put it up over the crossbar good job dropic just stays with him there stays down on it doesn’t make the first move is jet lenko fires first round pick 13th overall it’s going to be the first shootout attempt from Team Jones big smile on Sammy kon’s face as he sends out jet luchenko for the first attempt for team white taking his time down the right side puts on the gas backhander save made by beis good save but that was a pretty impressive attempt there for jet luchenko happening right in front of the perch that holds all the Flyers front office you really throw a goalie off when you do that you come in real slow way he presented his body it looked like he was going to go for a couple stick handles and then he just fired it you so be ARs and didn’t even move he’s locked when that happens his lower part of his body is locked and he beats him along the ice there just no way to get down good job by bum Here Comes Bergland over the line Bergland through the right Circle into the slot deakes and made by drebach oh my goodness well this kid is athletic and tremendous flexibility he looks like he’s beat there he is beat but he’s able to get the slits down and get that leg along the ice here comes Barky Denver Barky down the right side everybody swinging wide to the right in this shootout here’s a shoty scorers Denver Barky putting it short side on beis left- hand shot I I agree with the idea to come down the right side and swing across because you’re opening up the net as you come across and that should do it right there that’s it all right yeah like I said we didn’t know how long that shootout was going to go but uh We’ve seem to have stopped it after three rounds so a regulation time shootout here to wrap things up and they’re going to do a uh a team photo here which will we’ll hang around for that and a great end to the 2024 Flyers development Camp here at Flyers training center in Vorhees New Jersey a uh great first look at some of the most recent additions to the Flyers system and a good look at some guys that I don’t know they might earn themselves a spot in the Flyers system here today and a good look at some guys that have gotten uh another year of work under their belts from the last time we saw them I know there’s going to be a few guys that come out of here and are going to feel real good about what they did including obviously Matteo draak and the performance he had I know a guy like Noah Pal’s going to feel good about what he accomplishes with jet lenko uh in that same regard uh you look at Williams for example I thought he shown real well as a camp invite um they’re going to have an exit meeting uh type of thing to talk about what they want to continue to have these players work on um and I know some guys are going to take a lot of confidence out of this take it into their season um it’s not inconsequential to their development what took place this week so really good week for for a lot of guys great to see Jack paage out there uh the local product play to some of his uh hockey coming up with the New Jersey Rockets I believe played for the junior Flyers as well Wester Buon graduate yep and I know Dad was up there proud John Paige and great to see it really fun week to see these guys and yeah some of these guys we’re going to see in rookie Camp coming up here real soon Jack went through the Exon King the Valley Forge Minutemen Philadelphia little Flyers landed with the New Jersey Rockets uh another another couple of local guys here but um you there was a some some Valley Forge Minutemen guys oh mlin is the other guy and it comes out of the Valley Forge Minutemen program year one program Phoenixville and now is in North Dakota so if you’re watching this and you’re playing that level this could be you out here one of these days they play out of Oaks yep and played that bar many times coached him there great programs around here good to see more local kids getting to the getting to the highest levels which is which is awesome to see so that’s going to do it for us here I think from the Flyers training center in Vorhees as Brian Bourne has uh returned to the perch to turn us off that’s good he was down there taking that team photo but our thanks to him for getting this on the internet today and Brendan dver has been our cameraman today uh do a great job up here bringing you all the action so our thanks to to both of them for getting this show on the road today what’ you say 97 days till something yeah 97 let me give you the minute count yeah you still have a timer running up countdown app going all this is when I’ve really become miserable Cas you just joined us Jason’s miserable during the offseason he’s happy during the season yeah so he’s got a countdown clock running until the season uh begins but uh it seems oh you’re off in the summer yeah but I need sh right 96 days 23 hours 27 minutes and 45 seconds to the Flyers dro the puck on the 2024 25 season in Vancouver against the cans but there’s no question that you don’t have that long to wait until we start really getting in on the coverage here of the season because uh training camp is going to start in midt Flyers play six exhibition games we’ll have uh probably a training camp strage uh at some point uh probably yeah um so we’ll have all that stuff for you coming up uh in mid September and then we’re going to be rocking and rolling but um enjoy the rest of the offseason as best you can Flyers daily of course is still going yeah we Bill Meltzer on tomorrow with some stories of
