The Chicago Bulls Have Finally Signaled a New Era of Bulls Basketbal

this one was tough if you’re a bulls fan and I know some Bulls fans might be happy to see deargo really just to Signal a new era for this franchise but no matter how you slice it you can’t deny that demard de Rosen was incredible during his three years with this team and was actually one of the few exciting pieces of these last three seasons that were often times difficult to watch from the back-to-back game-winning buzzer beaters multiple clutch shots to close out games the man raised the standard for how the game of basketball should be played and let’s be real will this Bulls team to more wins than they otherwise would have gotten had he not been on the team but even the onc court heroics aside dear was professional and a leader off the court always there for the young guys giving back to the city and the community like I know the results aren’t going to show it given the Bulls as a team struggled overall during his tenure with the organization but that was more of Testament to the poor roster construction of this front office and not an indication of dear’s impact as a player dear will go down as a bulls Legend yes he has his flaws yes he often times gets too much tunnel vision and tried to play herob ball but once we see how this team looks starting next season without him yeah it’s going to be fun to see how the young guys develop and take advantage of the opportunity that’s given to them but I really do think we’re going to take dear for granted and won’t realize it when we don’t see him out there anymore the man was always available never took a day off gave it his all when he was on the court was always on the top of his game in the biggest moments down the stretch the Kings and their fans are going to love having demard de Rosen on their team to try to get them back into the playoff picture and so look while I’ll talk briefly about dear what he’s meant to the Bulls I do want to focus more on what this move means for the Bulls going forward for the rest of this offseason the impact it might have on future transactions as well as what it means for the Bulls in the more distant future so what’s going on everyone you’re listening to Bull Central here hope you’re all doing well now while I mentioned this in my video breaking this news last night I kept it pretty brief but losing dear while I think we all knew it was coming especially the weeks leading up to free agency and AK being non-committal and wanting to resign to Mar to Rosen there was part of me anyway I know I’m in the minority of this opinion that would not have been opposed to Demar staying assuming Zach would have been traded because both of them on the team would not have worked on the court as well as financially but seeing dear to help guide and Mentor the young guys and help them in those tough clutch moments and games I do think there would have been some value to that but I also recognize that by Demar staying it’s not going to give as much opportunity for guys like Pat Dalin IO NAU zelis just only so many minutes to go around and only so many touches and shot attempts for guys to truly be a to thrive so I get that and as the days Drew closer to free agency the Bulls traded Alex cruso they drafted pelis I slowly but surely started seeing this world without Demar D roza but as I mentioned before I’ll always remember the good memories he brought to us as Bulls fans his work ethic class and professionalism it’s why I’ll always have respect for Demar and will be rooting for him to do well in sack now as it relates to the specifics of this signing trade the kings are obviously getting dear in the deal and sign him to a threeyear $70 million contract dear wanted three years it’s why he reportedly turned down that 2-year $80 million deal Bulls offered him because he wanted a thirdy year probably wishes he could go back and take that now given it was more money for Less year but anyway the Kings get to Mar the Spurs act as the third team to help facilitate the deal and taking on Harrison barnes’s contract with their cap space as the Bulls did not want to take on extra money since it would put them over the luxury tax I would imagine the Spurs will likely try and flip barns at the deadline for a second rounder or something to a contending team that is looking for some Wing depth and then the Bulls what they got in the deal two second round picks Chris Duarte and cash because we know Jerry loves getting cash in a trade deal now I’ve seen some Bulls fans say this is a horrible deal for the bulls the bulls absolutely got fleeced how do you only get two second round picks in a deal for Demar Rosen and if you’re talking about it from a standpoint of what the Bulls could have gotten if they traded him last off season or even at the deadline then yes it was not a good return and we’ve talked about this before this is more of a microcosm of the bulls and their issue of hanging on to their players for two long in letting those assets depreciate but if you’re just looking at this for what it is a sign and trade where the Bulls didn’t have that much leverage they had some leverage but not so much then no this is not a bad return because you have to remember the Bulls could have very easily lost to Mar Rosen for nothing like had the Sixers not been able to sign Paul George and he re-up with the Clippers a team like the Sixers would have had the c space to sign him to a big contract or team like the Orlando Magic or the start of free agency some of the contending teams who were already over the cap but could have worked to to shed salary to sign Demar or Demar could have just taken a pretty big pay cut and played for the mid-level exception and gone wherever he wanted and the Bulls would have been standing there empty-handed so what the Bulls locked out on was one the teams that actually had cap space quickly filled up that cap sheet and the ones that didn’t have cap space but had their mid-level exception they either used part of their mle or they didn’t have the trade chips or contracts to make a deal work to bring in dear so that’s where the Bulls gained some leverage because in order for dear to get the payday he wanted and knowing he wanted to go play for a team that didn’t have cap space a team that was actually contending the Bulls had to play ball and agree to any sign and trade deal to get him to where he wanted to go because the only way dear could go to a team without cap space was via a signning trade and leading up to yesterday it appeared there were multiple teams interested in dear from the Clippers to the heat where the Bulls could say all right you want dear give us your best package and so to expect some crazy Hall of a return in a sign in trade was unrealistic and naive of a lot of bulls fans honestly I was expecting the Bulls to get one second round pick at best and maybe a player like DTE or ly so getting two picks already exceeded my expectations some Bulls fans were talking about the Spurs and giving the Bulls their pick back next year which is top 10 protected that was never realistic it would have made no sense for the Spurs to give out assets when they were helped facilitating the deal by taking on barnes’s contract if anything they should have been the ones getting picks not giving them out and they did actually get a pick swap in the deal from 2031 from the Sacramento Kings so the two seconds and Chris dwarte who was 27 is not a terrible deal when they could have lost AAR for nothing and a big reason why I like the two second round picks in this exchange is that they could very well be included in a deal to get them off Zack lavine’s contract or act as a sweetener in a package to throw in a couple second rounders for a team that might be a little unwilling to go after Zack LaVine but they could use the picks I still don’t think it makes sense to attach assets to a player like Zack LaVine just to get off of his max contract but instead of sending out a first-rounder to second rounders that they don’t really have control of anyway I would be okay parting with especially when they’re two second round picks we didn’t have 24 hours ago and you can kind of view it like playing with house money now I did want to talk about Chris dwarte for a minute so a guy who came into the league a bit older started as a rookie when he was 24 had kind of an unconventional path into the league where he played two years in college at Oregon only two years but when he was 22 and 23 but regardless he ended up going into the lottery in the 2021 draft with the 13th overall pick to the Indiana Pacers and actually had a solid rookie season for them putting up over 13 points per game shot the ball well from Deep good positional size as a two guard and he would go on to be selected second all team rookie that year problem is he kind of hasn’t done much since his rookie season he struggled more offensively been inefficient and inconsistent with his shooting his defense is not anything to write home about so I don’t think dwarte is going to have that much of an impact on the bows roster for the upcoming season but you can also view it as the Bulls taking a flyer on dwarte who might Thrive and do well in a new environment on a new team that isn’t hyper focused on winning now and if it doesn’t work out and he’s not able to crack the rotation I mean he’s on the final year of his rookie deal you don’t have to resign him you could let him walk one other thing worth noting in this sign and trade deal is that the bulls actually created a large 17.6 million traded player exception which I’m almost certain will not matter as the Bulls are not going to do anything with that exception given any additional money they spend will put them over the luxury tax if my math is correct after making this trade the Bulls now have a little over $4 million or they’re around $4 million under the tax I think it’s like 4.5 million but there might be some minor fluctuations here and there but that $4.5 million or so doesn’t really matter since uh they already have a full roster of 15 guys under contract but Tim’s contract is not fully guaranteed and they could wave him to open up a roster spot to use that to sign someone to a vet M deal but I think that’s unlikely because the Bulls don’t want to be just right at the tax line to give them little to no flexibility whatsoever during the season that said if they trade Zack LaVine and they’re able to take back less salary in return in that trade that would give them much more flexibility to use that trade exception or the rest of their mid-level exception but even then it’s not like there are a ton of notable free agents left in the Market at this stage or at least free agents that make sense for the Bulls given their new timeline but as I’ve said before I do think these added second round picks will serve the Bulls well if it means including them as a sweetener in a Zack LaVine trade package or just any trade in the future second round picks have really often times been used to sweeten the pot to get a team to agree in finalizing any trade deal it will be interesting to see how the rest of the Bulls offseason goes because the biggest question marks going into the summer was what’s going to happen with Alex Caruso Zack leavine demard Rosen and v two of those have already been determined with AC going to the Thunder for Josh Giddy and dear obviously now heading to sack in this sign a trade deal from a perspective of additional moves I don’t think we’re going to see that many additional moves being made by the Bulls obviously trading Zack LaVine will be the focus and I do think they will move him before opening night as much as some people say well V needs to be traded as well I find that even more unlikely than LaVine getting dealt because there really isn’t a market for centers starting centers in the NBA right now especially when he was 33 and still has two years guaranteed left on his deal oh and then Lonzo ball you know I know there was a lot of talk of the Bulls looking to dump lonzo’s contract that’s not going to happen and they’re not going to be able to get medical retirement and wipe his contract off the books because he’s actually been looking every bit of ready to make a comeback and even AK and his presser after the draft said he’s been fully able to do everything on the court which is a huge win for Lonzo ball and honestly I kind of want to see a comeback with him in a Bulls uniform it’ll be great for the Vibes in a season that otherwise isn’t really going to have high expectations but sometimes those are the funnest Seasons when you get to see what some of these young guys can do and see this next iteration of Bulls basketball but anyway a huge thank you to Demar D roza I know it’s not like he’s watching this but cannot thank you enough for bringing some great basketball to the court in Chicago and best of luck with everything in Sacramento as always guys be sure to subscribe and I will see you in the next one

  1. Ball’s injury sealed the fate of this team. There were memorable moments with DeMar. I’m all in for the youth movement. He will ball in Sacramento.

  2. He's an elite baller. Hopefully for him he can win a championship before he retires. The last 3 years he was there best player. Demar derozan. ❤

  3. Woulda been nice had we done this a couple of years ago and got draft capital for Derozan and Lavine. Had to make the precious play in.

  4. It's hard to see Demar go but I think this is for the best. The Bulls have a bright future ahead of them. It might be hard to see it now but I hope in the coming years the Bulls get better

  5. The problem we had is that LaVine and DeRozan are both #2 options on a championship team. We had no true #1 option.

But, had Lonzo stayed healthy, I think we would’ve been a threat in the east regardless

  6. DeRozan was one of my favorite players even before he signed for the Bulls, mainly for the guy he is off the court. And I think its safe to say he exceeded everyone's expectations here. He was great

But I have to say, these past 3 years have turned me into a basketball nerd lol. He plays an ancient style of basketball. I appreciate his time here but I'm so happy he's leaving and we can become at modern basketball team. Mid range shooting being our only answer to everything was driving me crazy… I wish him the best but I believe that next season will be the most entertaining season of bulls basketball in 4 years

  7. So we traded Derozan for some 2nd round picks so that we can use them to dump LaVine? Letting Demar walk for nothing might have been better to help this front office realize how stupid they are..

  8. Voucovich and lavine were the worst defenders for the bulls. I'm sad to see Derozan leave, but Chgo bulls ownership. Obviously, don't want to win because they will make money regardless. So let's bring in Predators and lose great players and people. The ownership must sell to people who actually want to compete.

  9. Best free agent Bulls have signed, We didn't think he would have grown to be a consistent leader. We got his best yrs 100%. Now Derozan can play more relaxed with the Kings, doest have to be the hero, just veteran leader. Im down with the youth movement. We are far away from being a contender. Remember what Billy did with a very young Thunder team, im excited
