Giannis in tears after qualifying for the Olympics for the first time

  1. Some players carry their country to the olympics, others pick what country to represent to get the easiest path

    LEVELS TO THIS SHIT

  2. But some guys here try to tell us winning nba championship is more important than playing in olympics 😑

edit: watching the responses – I dont say nba championship is not important.
You just have to understand olympics (and especially a medal there) for small countries like greece or slovenia is more important than being 1st in nba.

Galis is considered the most exceptional figure in greek basketball and he never even played in NBA.

  3. I don’t think it can be heard in this clip, but at that point the entire Peace And Friendship Stadium was chanting “ANTETOKOUNMPO ANTETOKOUNMPO”

  4. Fighting to be the world champ, Papagianis give a good help too!

  5. So happy for Giannis. He is a man of many countries but his heart has always been with Greece. It’s very touching.

  6. Thanassis joined them on the court to celebrate and even though he’s injured, joined the huddle and was jumping up and down in celebration with one leg 😀

  7. For non-American players, playing for your country is as much as a pinnacle to most as the NBA. This is why you see players like Luka, Giannis play through niggles etc for their countries. Wish I could say the same for Ben Simmons

  8. After this clip, Thanasis walked onto the court and demanded a trade to New Zealand

  9. An incredible achievement for sure. Especially after the disappointing NBA season, I’m sure it’s an incredible feeling to lead the Greek basketball team so far.

  10. If he at least brings Greece to the Olympic final against the USA (if they’re on opposite brackets), will it be considered a bigger achievement than winning the NBA title?

  11. Man I didn’t expect this to be this toxic, but lemme say this:

Choosing ANY country and being excited to represent it is cool as fuck. Watching how the redeem team carried themselves as ambassadors for the US in 08 was awesome. When anyone, basketball or otherwise, legitimately cares about bringing home a medal or even great performance for their country, it should be seen as one of the best things any athlete can do

I think Americans really take for granted how cool this is, because either they win medals they were supposed to or they lose, and outside of a few select sport, it’s an upset loss. Qualifying is fantastic. Representing your home country, no matter how you ended up there, is even better.

The Olympics kick ass. It’s like one of the few ideas we’ve had that hopefully will stand the test of time as a good one. Even if there’s been issues and problems among it

  12. Some redditors in here are just sad. Get a life, bros. Good for Giannis and I’m glad he’s the one who sent my boy Luka on much needed vacation. Thanks for that, btw.

  13. the answer to
“why is (insert foreign player) playing for their national team? they should rest before the next nba season”

  14. Giannis could later be seen chasing the Croatian team into the locker room to retrieve the game ball

  15. It’s a sad thing to have to go to France, but participating in the Olympics is still a great honor.

  16. Can someone remind him that Greece is a mainstay in basketball and the Olympics? They never not qualify for it lmao

  17. With all the horseshit PR that Lebron puts the league through it’s a shame that the NBA hasn’t capitalized on Giannis’ rise to fame. Seems like one of the most genuine guys in all of sports and truly someone who does what they do for the love of the game.

  18. Wait that doesn’t make sense, I have had a bunch of Euros telling me the fiba world cup is the most important tournament internationally?!?

    Clowns lmao

  19. Love watching Giannis succeed. Way too much unnecessary hate towards one of the nicest guys in the league who had one of the greatest Finals closeouts in history.

  20. Haha some people here are crybabies. You some don’t realise that Giannis hasnt Steph Curry or Kevin Durant as his teammates.
