Minnesota Vikings Re-Signed RB Cam Akers

Minnesota Vikings Re-Signed RB Cam Akers

what’s going on jeromes so the Missota finded Vikings and running back cam Acres we speculated all offseason that it it seemed like they were just waiting until Acres uh surgically repaired left Achilles was good to go and they will get the band back together seemed like that was the plan all along and apparently uh that’s coming to fruition so uh per the NFL transaction wire uh Tuesday July 2nd uh the Vikings resigned running back cam Acres uh pending pass his physical now that that physical is going to be the thing right he’s less than a year removed from another Achilles surgery uh he injured his right Achilles uh back in 2021 when he was with the Rams uh but either way I do think it’s a a fantastic lowrisk High reward spot and cam Acres I I mean I I feel like there’s still so much unta potential uh with acres and I I think that he fits in perfectly with what the Vikings want to do with the running game I I think that he’s a perfectly capable running back three or four uh so glad to have him back in the mix let’s talk about cam Acres today uh background uh 25 years young uh just turned 25 on June 22nd so we’re almost birthday buddies he’s significantly younger uh but he’s 510 217 now he was a five-star all world number one recruit blah blah blah coming out of high school now he he was a dual threat quarterback you know played running back in college obviously but we we need to talk about this cam Acres his senior season of high school 2016 had 65 touchdowns like he threw so first off he completed 61% of his passes uh and threw for 3100 yards that’s a 31 uh to six touchdown interception ratio a 128. one quarterback re that’s amazing that’s amazing for a high school quarterback then add in he also ran for 2100 yards and 34 touchdowns like this was that’s insane like OB he average like nine yards a carry it’s crazy man but uh committed to Florida State uh and what’s interesting is that he one for one swapped out for dvin cook uh so he uh he his uh freshman season was was 2017 at Florida State dvin of course is drafted by the Vikings second round 2017 so it’s interesting because stylistically they are similar right so cam acres is cut from a similar cloth as Dalvin uh so it’s just fitting that they went uh to the same school was a second round pick in 2020 number 52 overall by the Rams and he just never really got it going like he probably should have uh with the Rams it just seemed like McVey was never like fully fully in on him like he’s always splitting carries with like Darnell Henderson of course last year gave way to Kiron Williams and Williams had a league winning season in in terms of fantasy numbers but his high water mark was in 2022 uh when he came back from that Achilles in the first place uh where he had 786 yards and seven touchdowns uh so yeah of course uh he had the experienced Crossover with Kevin oconnell and Wes Phillips for two years with the Rams uh so that is certainly part of it as well and then last year uh was traded uh from the Rams once Kyon Williams establ himself as rb1 uh quacy picked him up uh for a swap of 2026 draft picks again injury guy the the Medical guy who is highly drafted quac is just like all in mama I can change him right and then last year like akres had some nice moments I mean the Vikings running game was anemic as is uh so don’t necessarily hold it against him but 38 carries for a buck 38 3.6 yards per carry which is not good also hey he had one more rushing touchdown than Madison uh and also he had 11 catches for 70 yards on 12 targets uh in six games but unfortunately you popped his left Achilles uh and then had to have that surgically repaired uh during the offseason and acres has been training all off seon uh at the training house which is right next to TCO Performance Center Bar and Grill uh so again that’s why you’re connecting the dots where all right so quacy traded for him so there’s a little bit of I’m going to stay committed to this as well as the experience with Kevin oconnell and Wes Phillips uh and of course you know training in the Twin Cities where he didn’t have any ties here so that that’s where uh that’s why you know connecting the dots everything makes sense now uh what can can K Acres bring so experience in Kevin McConnell type offense of course two years off uh crossover uh with KOC with the Rams uh but you know very similar Concepts up front between the Rams at McVey and the Vikings with oconnell solid outside Zone Runner uh capable receiver uh good pass protector as well so he can be a true three down back and like we said zero risk High reward still has to pass his physical which I’m sure that he will at this point uh as well as uh you know the contract isn’t out but I’m sure it’ll be league minimum probably nothing or very minimal guaranteed uh and then probably some incentives in there as well plus like I said just turned 25 in June uh and also this is going to be seen as a negative but his injury is like has kept some wear and tear off of his body outside of the two Achilles plus like he does have grit he does have toughness uh he did come back from a torn Achilles last time around and had his career best season in 2020 uh 2021 uh so or excuse me 2022 so this is something to look for and the Vikings like I said they were basically telegraphing this play to bring Acres back because outside of swapping Jones for Madison they didn’t sign any other running backs in free agency from the outside they didn’t draft a running back they didn’t even bring one in as udfa uh so Acres I again I I still think that Acres could be a nice running back three uh nice veteran safety net behind Aaron Jones and Tai Chandler and I see nothing wrong with it and also you still have a ton of other Talent with King Ken and dway McBride uh gasin all right so gasin sort of similar to acres in a a solid allaround back but you acers uh is uh significantly uh you the better running back than than gasin so I think that this is a really smart move uh by the Vikings but you we’ll see what happens hopefully he passes his physical uh and hopefully he’ll be good to go to start training camp but your thoughts are thoughts uh Vikings resigned cam Acres pending physical let us know your thoughts and our thoughts in the comment section below subscribe for daily Vikings takes well it’s worth the work put a
